I'd love a 2D Metroid (from Retro, especially) but would prefer it on the Wii U, simply because they could push the visuals a hell of a lot more.

This. It's a new product for them to sell, just as a blu-ray release of an old movie would be a "new product."
Although, if it's something we'd been really wanting anyway or along those lines that can be almost as good or better. And it would fit with SE nonchalantly announcing Type-0 HD.

The game was originally supposed to have a 7 day cycle I believe, but that was too ambitious for the N64 hardware and the constraints of the development cycle. (Or maybe it was 5 days, I don't remember)

During his post-event IGN appearance, Reggie said both "well, I WILL be wearing another Samus pin tomorrow night!," and "Look, I'm not going to give you guys another announcement here on your show after Devil's Third" when asked if the Mother 3 reference during the Direct was a hint at an upcoming Mother 3 release (Since both Star Fox and Mario mentioned that they wanted games during the Robot Chicken segments and then got them).

Just to be clear, you say things you liked today but the release date isn't until 2015, right? Because outside of Metroid I'm not sure what else on the Nintendo Wishlist WASN'T mentioned today... Kirby, Yoshi, Toad(!!), three brand-new IPs, Star Fox, Mario Party, Zelda, X, Bayonetta... all I can think of that's missing is F-Zero, but what with Mario Kart such a dominant and all-consumer racer I'm not sure F-Zero is making a come back..

Good point. But I'm hoping it's still fully 3D environments. I of course love Super Metroid, but I want more fully explorable environments.
