Liveblog thread for 3DS new Nintendo IP announcement (Code Name STEAM)

In-depth look at the game tomorrow on the Treehouse stream.

just came in to say this. and now it all makes sense. people are saying "why not stream the reveal" and this just answered it. Nintendo is (smartly) playing ball with the new sites.

Step 1
Have roundtable press-only premiere. Give the press time to write up and report on it.

Step 2
Public first hears about said title through the press. Screens, maybe some direct feed video, etc.

Step 3
Nintendo releases the title to the public on Treehouse Live

Everyone is happy. The press isn't left out in the cold from Nintendo streaming everything to the public directly.. at the same time we get more coverage on said thing than a 10 paragraph write up on it from the press after their "exclusive" reporting period of it that night.

Not bad actually. Everyone walks away happy.

No stream? What is this, 1995?

lol wut? Nintendo has been streaming the hell out of this E3.. see my theory right here. Nintendo isn't streaming it on purpose. You are meant to hear about it through the press first (aka throwing them a bone) and then can tune in for likely a 20-40 minute live stream of it tomorrow.

Well, this isn't my opinion, but here goes:

I think many feel that Miyamoto has lost the edge that made him so good - many assert that Pikmin was his last good franchise, and that his most recent attempts have not lived up to the standard he set. Project Giant Robot and Project Guard were met with decidedly mixed reception - regardless of how early they are in development.

Furthermore, some see his influence as detrimental to the games he supervises, with the most common example being Paper Mario Sticker Star.

I've only really scratched the surface, but Miyamoto has received a fair amount of stick recently. Deserved? No idea.

I think this is a perfect summary. For me it includes Pikmin, but for most I think many consider that to be his last great game. I'd say it was Super Mario 64.

Edit: If it is a JRPG as Jason Schreier says, a JRPG from Miyamoto would totally pique my interest.

Well, that's significantly less exciting.

Not that I hate Miyamoto, but his work after Pikmin (especially on new IPs) has been kinda...well, hit and miss.

And why the hell did GAF just go down?

It's failure won't be based on an arbitrary date, but rather it's library/offerings. I want more than just 90% of it's AAA lineup being Nintendo first party.b (At least nowhere near the amount of the DS).

The DS was a JRPG machine...and now, it's successor has a handful, in which half of them aren't even available in PAL territories.

Schreier can see into our minds.

Tonight's thing is a new IP, Nintendo says. Clearly a JRPG

Was he at all involved in the Galaxy games? I don't think anyone can say he's lost it if he had any significant input on them.

I'm disappointed because Miyamoto makes it pretty unlikely that it's an RPG. Just my own opinion of course, but that's what I mostly want out of my portable consoles (Vita and 3DS), RPG's.

EDIT: God I hope I'm wrong, and that last Schreier tweet is getting me a little excited
