Lose Yourself by Eminem is the best Hip-Hop song of all time.

Also not my favourite song of all time but its up there.

The Pharcyde-Runnin

There comes a time in every mans life when he's gotta handle shit up on his own
Can't depend on friends to help you in a squeeze
Please, they got problems of their own
Down for the count on seven chickenshits don't get to heaven
Til they faced these fears in these fear zones
Used to get jacked back in high school I played it cool
Just so some real shit won't get full blown bein' where I'm from
They let the smoke come quicker than an evil redneck
Could lynch a helpless colored figure and
As a victim I invented low-key
Till the keyhole itself got lower than me
So I stood up and let my free form form free
Said I'm gonna get some before they knock it out me
I don't sweat it I let the bullshit blow in the breeze
In other words just debris

WTF is this shit? This song came on EXACTLY as I loaded up GAF and now I see this?

What can this all mean? I'm fucking gobsmacked up in this bitch.

Its not even his best song on that 8 Mile album. Rabbit Run doesnt have the radio friendly structure of Lose Yourself, but its much better. Hits harder too.

real talk tho, I listened to the Slim Shady LP and Marshall Mathers Show in full last summer and a lot of cuts from those albums havnt aged well. embarrassing to be caught listening to.
the Eminem Show is legit. One of the best albums of the last decade. White America, Till I Collapse, Sing for the Moment. Em's highs are crazy good.

Oh look another "Eminem is literally the greatest rapper of all time" thread.

Hint: He's not. He's a talented dude but come on guys. There are at least 5 or even 10....maybe 15 rappers I would put ahead of Eminem.

My contenders for best of all time:

i was like yeah ill check your list

and i got "behind the candelabra trailer" for the add before shook ones 2... youtube stays fucking up

People are trying to claim Em is consistent now? WTF

He has great flow, good control over his voice, is intelligent and funny. But his albums never seem to be consistently great. They often lack direction, likely a product of the drugs he's done. Infinite, SSLP, MMLP and ES are pretty good, but even then none of them are truly consistent without, SSLP is probably the closest to being good start to finish.

As an example of a recent album with a consistent direction good kid mad city is a pretty obvious example. College Dropout (in fact I'd argue all of Kanye's albums tend to have a strong direction, and he's probably the most consistent hip-hop artist in recent times, his raps aren't close to Em etc though obviously) is another. Illmatic is another.

Em started pretty well but hasn't made a great album since ES and hasn't really produced a true classic album although SSLP is almost there. If you want to argue he is the most talented rapper I could see that argument holding some water if you judge him solely by his verses, but his album and discography leave a lot to be desired considering his talent. If Em had half of Kanye's vision for his albums he'd be up there.

Illmatic is hard to go past for the best rap album, but best song is too hard. This is art, it's completely subjective, and different songs all serve different purposes so it's hard to rank them.

This thread reminded me of this picture.

Also, no. Hell no.

since we're name droppin goat song candidates, for impact and longevity, T.R.O.Y., Know the Ledge, Holler if ya Hear Me, Gimme the Loot, Fuck tha Police, C.R.E.A.M. Shook Ones pt. II, Represent, and One Mic are easily top 15 material.

I mean, you could put Lose Yourself somewhere in a top 30 list, but i wouldnt cause it aint even among the pinnacle of Em's best work.

Eminem has an awesome skill set which exceeds the quality of music he puts out. He's never put out an album to his potential

Song is bullshit.

Hip Hop would be ever so lame without the west coast.
Thats not the point of the song, it was about the hip-hop losing it's identity because of mainstream acceptance and popularity, not "west coast" music.

But then she broke to the West coast, and that was cool
Cause around the same time, I went away to school
And I'm a man of expanding, so why should I stand in her way
She probably get her money in L.A
And she did stud, she got big pub but what was foul
She said that the pro-black, was going out of style
She said, Afrocentricity, was of the past
So she got into R&B hip-house bass and jazz
Now black music is black music and it's all good
I wasn't salty, she was with the boys in the hood
Cause that was good for her, she was becoming well rounded
I thought it was dope how she was on that freestyle shit
Just having fun, not worried about anyone
And you could tell, by how her titties hung

He specifically says that where it all went to shit was when the record labels got involved. Pay attention to the last verse of the song.

Ontopic: Em is Em...but honestly if you dig deeper into the genre I am sure without a doubt that whatever part of Eminem you like, you would find another artists who does it better.

also the GOAT is not Wu-Tang's Redman, it's Tribe's Busta Rhymes.

I don't think Busta was ever in A Tribe Called Quest....he was in Leaders of the New School, which was part of the scene and on that one Tribe song.

isn't busta a member of the brickmode squad with Rah Digga and Eve?

For a while he was a member of the flipmode squad and during that period is where most people caught wind of him; that was singles like Dangerous and Gimme Some More. I don't know if that's still the case but I would guess not.

Leaders of the New School was before that...early 90s.

So, it's the best hip-hop track of all time, but it isn't the greatest Eminem track?

Does not compute.

Also, lol at the general sentiment.
