I just noticed in every hip hop thread Hopsin
or Childish Gambino
always get mentioned

heh

Welcome to the internet.

Em is easily the best rapper ever and Drake is a distant 2nd.

What? I mean... what? Are you... what? Is this even... what? What in the fuck?

I had to check my calendar. All this thread is missing to bring it back to 1996 is some hoser talking about "RAP = CRAP"

This thread makes me want to throw up in someone's shoe and then beat them to death with it. Hold me back WW HOLD ME BACK!

Yo. Yo.

That one dude also said that Nicki Minaj was better than Sean Price because "at least she could sell records."

Just saying.

It's such a fantastic song. I don't think is even the best Eminem song, and he definitely has other stuff that's lyrically more complex and impressive, yet, that doesn't mean much because Lose Yourself is probably the best example of what's so good about hip-hop.

From the very second the song starts, you know that is gonna be special. Eerie/atmospheric intro that sets up the tone for the rest of the record: a tale of an underdog that finally has the chance to achieve the recognition he deserves.

Just fantastic lyrics all around that are relatable to almost anyone and an amazing, instantly recognizable beat that will stay in your mind forever. But what makes this song such a classic is the intensity behind everything. This is an artist at his absolute best; a song that was written and produced by himself, none of that ghostwriter/ghostproducer bullshit. There have been a lot of great rappers that have come out in recent years, but honestly, I doubt I'll ever see anyone rapping at this level.

The song transmits such a feeling of urgency which I find particularly interesting considering that at this point Eminem was already on top of the world and had 2 of the best selling albums of the decade in the US, so he didn't have anything to prove.

Everytime I hear the "I don't like rap, but do like Eminem" argument, this is always, always the song people bring up. It's understandable because Lose Yourself has a huge appeal that transcends the genre.

Lose Yourself is the anthem ball players play at the locker room, boxers use as their entrance theme, EVO players listen to and win tournaments. A masterpiece.

And it won an Oscar

You're entitled to your opinion, but I don't agree with this one. Personally I don't have a "favorite" hiphop song per se, but there are plenty of ones I like a lot more than any Eminem piece.

Just personal taste, that's all.

Stan's not only his best song, but the best rap song ever IMO. And yes, I've heard all the popular picks like TROY, 93 Til Infinity, Juicy, Protect Ya Neck, and whatever else you can throw at me. I'm not even that big an Eminem fan.

A Tribe Called Quest, Pete Rock and CL Smooth, Mobb Deep, etc. are not random ass underground artists. If you don't know the back catalog don't step into the arena (another random ass hip hop reference).

I was talking about that elzhi dude some guy posted.

Lol, how could you possibly think they were referring to any of the artists you mentioned? If you can't identify the obvious don't revoke someone else's arena invitation!

It is one of the best, but not the best. That will always be subjective. Dr Dre, Tupac, Biggie, Bone thugs, anyone can argue who had the best song ever.

Pretty much every song on Illmatic is better than the entirety of Eminem's discography.

Life's A Bitch is the greatest rap song of all time though.

The entirety of Eminem's discography might be better than every track off Nastradamus, though.

I knew your taste was suspect steelo and then you drop this WOAT thread, smh.
Thieves in the night by black star is a better song, just mentioning since I'm listening to that right now and even that isn't close to being best of all time.
EDIT: what i mean is that thieves in the night is incredible and there are a lot of hip hop songs just as good or even better than it, lose yourself is not even on the same level.

I don't know how anyone could listen through SSLP, MMLP, and TES and say that he isn't a top 5 rapper.

His new stuff has been pretty mediocre (or even straight up garbage) but I dig a couple Recovery tracks, the No Love verse is pretty tight
