Very little of the show is science based. That's super clear now that we've watched the last fourth of season 6. It's all magic/supernatural.

I don't see her exactly like MIB smokey, but having the powers of smokey and the protector, to me, carries an understanding of "you must do whatever you must to protect the island, even murder". That implies "protection"--she was a balanced protector of the island.

MIB was only smokey and for reasons we don't know (I think its a combo of not being the "true" protector + being tossed into the cave while angry or possibly dead), was corrupted by being solely the weapon of the island.

So instead of "you must do whatever you must to protect the island, even murder", his corruption/own influence made it "I must do whatever I must to leave the island, even murder."

I would stop a tad short of perfect, but I 100% agree with everything else you said. S6 has everything.

Stuff that didn't get answered:
The supply drop was explained by daniel's S4 test.. The Others child/fertility story ended up resolved by the bomb. Walt's special powers ended up being something just like Miles and Hurley's powers, but uncontrollable (& effectively useless) to the others. I have no idea why Jack wasn't on Jacob's list when he was doing Ben's surgery, I asked that myself--but I assume it's because Jacob originally was planned to have a list of candidates to replace Ben (which is the direction they were going with with Locke's story) but that changed in the end. Juliet getting branded when she was found guilty was part of the Others justice system--remember they even had that Sheriff type figure? That never got elaborated on in the end.Does anyone want to remeber Stranger in a Strange Land? The rules between Ben and Widmore were gentlemen's rules that were not like what jacob could decree. Christian Shepard appeared on the freighter because he was ghost, preceeded by whispers, welcoming michael into the afterlife. The frozen wheel isn't explained, but the Man in Black basically says "it's a wheel that moves the island and uses magic light" so that's good enough for me. They never explain who is shooting at the gang during the time travel. Eloise's elaborate pendulum / island finding system isn't explained but presumably from her association with Widmore and his lifelong goal of getting back to the island, they were connected. Actually, most of the stuff done by Sun's father / Widmore / Eloise was clearly something they planned to explain at one point and then decided not to.

Mib, Jacob, & crazymom are all guilty of bad stuff imo. Smokey killing someone because he did not get what he wanted was as bad an act as crazymom killing people to protect the island.

You (& maybe others) keep adding that he snapped when finding out his mother was killed which is not not the case at all. He was leading a "normal" life for 30 years just like other people with crazy dysfunctions do. He killed ONLY when he did not get what he wanted.

Crazymom killed the villagers only when it became apparent that they were going to harness the island's power. This is despite the fact she didn't like them to begin with. She killed the mom because she saw in the twins as a replacement for her and unique which is why she did not want them going to the village (Point proven by dead ghost mom to BiB only)

Self interest is not the same as selfishness. I get self interest. heck I even get selfishness. However, there is no amount of selfishness that justifies killing people just so you can leave a place you no longer want to be at.

This argument has become akin to defending child molesters who were molested themselves. At the end of the day they still belong in prison for the rest of their lives.

Why I love it.
-best intro to any season in television history
-introduction of Desmond
-Introduction of Mr. Eco
-Introduction of Ben
-Introduction of Dharma Initiative
-The hatch countdown
-best build up towards the season finale
-Ana Lucia dies
-John Lockes faith is tested
-Man of science, man of faith.

On the other hand, there's the whole "Charlie goes crazy, kidnaps Aaron to baptize him, gets the shit beat out of him by Locke, then attacks Sun in the jungle to help Sawyer and get back at Locke" thing, which is easily the worst arc in the entire series.
 
I love seeing the wildly different season ranking lists that people post. It just proves how different we all are and what different things we look for in a good story. Here's mine for what it's worth.

S4>S1>S3>S5>S2>>>>>S6

Absolutely, worst part of LOST bar none.

S2 also has the worst pacing in the entire series IMO. The first 8 or so episodes just go on and on and on with the same stuff over and over again.

Season 2 has some amazing parts, but it will always be the weakest season imo.

NONE of the show is science-based. I dont know why some people get hung up on purgatory but will except islands moving through space and time.

Some people want a scientific, real world explanation for a fictional location that does not exist in our world. What's wrong with that, Solo? Why do you find it so hard to believe?

Heard it's supposed to contain some Silent Hill'ish scares, so I'm excited about that. It's extremely rare that a videogame makes me nervous or tense in any way (or even movies these days, sadly). And I'm not one of those "lol nothing scares me, I'm a MAN" types. I love it when shit freaks me out.

Yeah, the balanced protector thing makes sense, she clearly knew what she had to go to protect the island. She seemed pretty jaded in regards to the humans but didnt wipe them out immediately, so maybe she has had bad experiences with humans on the island before?

I dont think the MIB was corrupted through any magical means though, I think that was just his personality and his frustration/anger of being stuck on the island for so long that 'corrupted' him and made him murder and kill in order to get back at Jacob and leave the island. Despite being a protector he is still, mentally, a human being, albeit one with a considerable amount of power.
 
I think it's about 60/40 on the supernatural side.

If you want to get technical, most sci-fi mumbo jumbo is just another name for magic.

ELECTROMAGNETISM.





The Light is the source of everything, and it seems to have both sci-fi (EM +water) and supernatural (Life, Death, Rebirth) properties.

Now I haven't played the game yet, but people seem to complain about odd stuff about it, like Alan randomly commenting about things he sees in his environment. That shit gives me awesome oldschool PC adventure game vibes.

Trust me, I wasn't hate-free a couple nights ago. I'm so hung up on the explanation for the X reality, you have no idea, but I also can't wait to see the series again all the way through to reevaluate and re-experience everything.

If you loved the Max Payne series, this is very much an extension of that. Hell, they pay it homage on multiple occasions :D
 
Fire + Water, and some of the stories surrounding that was fucking terrible. Lowpoint of the show.

Sucks it came after such an awesome episode, The Hunting Party, IIRC.
 
I didn't have too much of a problem with those S2 Fire+Water era eps, but I can agree it was a lower point for the show.


I'm still kind of amazed at how many eps S3 had with just Sawyer (and soon jack) just chilling at the camp. There wasn't any insane tension at the beach camp most of that time, they were just chilling and they somehow still made that entertaining.
