Eloise that we see in Flashes Before Your Eyes isn't totally reconcilled with the one we see in The Variable, who explains the notebook.

How did she know about the guy who died in the construction accident? I can't image that was in the notebook... She was also clairvoyant, which doesn't jive with the notebook.

So yeah, Eloise in FBYE is a plothole.

Eloise is the only gargantuan and important plothole in the show, imo. None of what she does other than what she does with Daniel makes sense.

The priest guy that Desmond worked for told her about the construction worker, but he told her not to worry - his death was necessary to form a Wizard of Oz sight gag

Kate's FS is definitely gonna need close attention on rewatch, because it's certainly the biggest thing I dismissed this year until the end.:lol :lol
Kate was just waiting for everyone else. She was clearly who she was and did not change. She was just waiting to join all the others and doing what she normally does- being a bad grl with a heart of gold. She only had to work out that she was ready which she could not be until everyone else was.

Considering she had reconciled her feelings for Jack and her life of crime before her death, it makes sense she had nothing to do but wait imo.

It's as true as Caeser's Lead diet.
After the series ended, Hurley went looking for Jack's body to bury him. He walked through the bamboo field to find him. once he got near, he saw a man in a leather jacket standing over Jack's body. Hurley approached the man, but as he got closer, he heard a soft constant "panging" noise.

When Hurley finally reached the man, he heard a sudden *ZIIIP* coming from the man's midsection. Turns out, the man was Caesar, and he was urinating on Jack's corpse. Without hesitation, Caesar turned around and gut punched Hugo, and as Hurley doubled over in pain (partially from the punch, partially for the half gallon of Dharma Ranch dressing he consumed earlier that day), Caesar leaned in close and whispered in Hugo's ear. He said: "This is my island now."

The chest bump story Jorge told on the latest GJB podcast fucking killed me picturing it in my head.

Also, I convinced myself that the Blu-Ray S5 DHARMA Orientation kit was the perfect tide-me-over until the Complete Series so I got it.

No fifth patch but FINALLY. LOST ON BLU FOR ME.

:D
:lol sounds awesome... link!?

In the sideways, Kate facilitated a scenario where Claire would be able to raise Aaron herself. That was her biggest regret in life.

We get throwaway lines about Kate being innocent as well. I guess that shows regret for her crimes in life? or something. ok, beyond the baby drama, sideways Kate wasn't exactly fleshed out that much :lol

Desmond could have either been mind travelling or seeing flashes of the future (just as he was seeing flashes of Charlie dying) or even both. Its not clear if he actually knew it was the afterlife, but its possible he just experienced those moments out of context.
He didn't know it was the afterlife per his conversation with Jack..

I also liked that they linked the afterlife with the scientific - EM. Desmond would not have seen any of what he saw if not for the special qualities of the Island and EM.

Desmond wasn't a Jesus figure because he only had the power but not the knowledge. Even in the sideways, Charlie and Eloise knew more than he did at first.

I hope we get to see a shit load of deleted scenes on the DVD. It's almost like every couple of weeks we hear one of the actors (usually Jorge) describe an awesome/insightful scene that ends up getting cut.

That Miles/Hurley scene (with the two of them discussing Juliet's final "it worked" message) would've been pretty neat to see.
I've watched the extras on all of the Bluray, I really hope they include a lot more extras on the Complete set..

Locke's FS issue was that he never let go of his daddy issues, he kept hanging on through all the bad shit even when his dad was gone. Desmond ran over him to get him to let go.

Kate's is weird. Only thing I can think of is she wanted to see claire raise Aaron and she spent so much of FS nursing claire through the aborted adoption and eventually birth process. Mother was reunited with her baby for a fresh start.

Kate stole the bag(Aaron)she felt bad for it,she brought it(him) back to Claire.

After the finale, I saw hers as almost completely fleshed out which made it the least interesting by default. Sayid's wasn't that interesting either but for different reasons.

She brought out the old personalities of the other characters, preparing them in a way. I saw this with Jack and Claire, but particulary with her meeting with Sawyer as she tried to draw him out to how he really was

I want that season 5 blu ray set but I'm gonna do my best to hold out until the complete season set. I will buy it day one and have the ultimate Lost rewatch, Pilot to The End, it will be glorious.

Who specifically was in the church doesn't really mean all that much. Desmond made a point to say that Farraday wasn't "going with him" and that Ana Lucia "isn't ready yet." There will be more of the Losties leaving, but we just saw the first group, if you will. There's no reason to get hung up on who and who wasn't in the church.

Pretty much how I feel. Don't see why everyone is trying to project all of these rules and such on the fucking afterlife.

But for the record, since people specifically keep mentioning Penny, we can also assume that she might have bonded with Sawyer/Kate/Claire/Aaron after Lapidus flew everyone back to LA. Many have assumed that Desmond eventually got off the island again. I sorta like to think that all these people remained close to one another and that can explain why Penny would "move on" with them.

I think Ben has the best flash sideways content, personally. The way they symbolized how he doesn't join the rest of them in the church is a fantastic idea because even though he was redeemed in the end, he chose not to and I think that's his way of punishing himself for all the atrocities he committed in his time. Perhaps the flash sideways, in turn, is the ultimate answer of what the island's power/light is. I think they answered what the light is through the flash sideways, it's just extremely, extremely hard to put into words.

I love how FS Kate is innocent in her reality.
Does that mean that she doesn't feel any remorse for killing her stepfather...or for killing MIB?
Will she did feel guilty, but also betrayal. But in the sideworld she wanted to feel innocent, which is Kate kind of running away, which is what Kate does!:lol
Also lol at bolded, one of the most surprising/awesome things in the finale...

Oh man! This just hit me, tell me what you think.

So, something that kind of bugged me was that Jack showed little concern for Claire after their initial meeting and conversation.

But, in LA X, we see Jack purposefully reaching out and comforting Claire. Something they didn't have going on on The Island.

I'm thinking he felt guilt over not becoming close to or protecting Claire.

That works for me, seeing as, like I said, it bugged me.

so what's the deal wit hthe box Christian left of Claire/Jack X?

Following up my last post, it was another way to get Jack and Claire to bond, which they never got to do on The Island.

I think there is too much emphasis on what people had to work on. I always looked at it as no one was going anywhere until everyone was ready and that largely dealt with acceptance, not working on something. Otherwise, they would be ghosts like Michael.

There was nothing profound gained/accomplished by anyone in the sideways except for Locke & Desmond, but both of those still had a lot to do with the reawakenings, not changing their ways.

I enjoyed his the most as well.

I think that the reason he didn't enter the church though is exclusively because of Alex.

Alex is one of the characters, like Ana Lucia/Faraday, who hasn't really "finished" with this afterlife yet...there are more issues to resolve.

I think that without Alex in the picture, Ben certainly would have moved on with everyone else.

Ben got Alex killed, kept her from her mother, and also kept her isolated her whole life from the outside world. Now she has a chance to have all these things, and he, being like a father figure to her AGAIN, has a chance to be apart of it.

I think that staying behind is anything but a punishment for Ben. He is making out better than anyone in the flash. Yeah, he's a fucking high school teach who has to take care of his dieing father, but the chance of doing right for Alex certainly outweighs that. It could also be a two way thing. Part atonement (Take care of father, get over being second in command), and part gift/second chance (Take care of Alex).

Keep in mind that the very LAST thing that Alex heard was her father telling the man holding a gun to her head that he didn't really love her. Maybe Ben COULDN'T leave, maybe his departure is tied to Alex's like all the Losties were tied to each other. Maybe she needs to get over that last moment in her life, and this is how it's going to happen.

So this post is going through lots of transformation. I've written what I wanted to write, and then editing things in and out as I skim what people have already written in the many thousands of posts before this. :D

So there are still gaps left from the series as a whole, but the resolution to the flash sideways stuff wrapped up that major season 6 element really well. As an afterlife it easily enough explained things like:
*Eloise's special knowledge makes sense (unlike her initial appearance in Desmond's past)
*Since time doesn't exist in the same way there, apparent inconsistencies like Locke and Sun arriving at the hospital really aren't. Also that for the last half of the season this concert has been _tonight_.
*People living out slightly twisted versions of things that really happened to them mostly make sense as something their minds would create, rather than just as a fun writing trick. Like, Sayid feeling he was too bad to deserve Nadia led to her marrying his brother in this place.
*What happened happened. Still just one set timeline after all, no branching.

However, it does open up a new set of questions. (I know people have proposed some answers to these.)
*Why Sayid and Shannon?
*So the church people and some others like Eloise and Ana-Lucia were definitely meant to be real, but what about people like Keamy?
*What does it mean for someone like Keamy to DIE in purgatory, if he was real?
*David is completely fictitious? Sayid's nieces and nephews have no objective existence?
*And what the hell about afterlife baby Aaron? Either a future-dead Aaron stuck in a baby's body, or just another completely imaginary creation that people are pretending like it matters?
*How does this connect with the ghosts seen throughout the show? Like Charlie appearing to Hurley. Did Charlie do that before heading to "X", or is it from afterward since time doesn't work the same way in the afterlife?

Unrelated to that element, the way Desmond was able to survive the light made me think: If he'd been at the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark, his face wouldn't have melted.

I'm also amazed that of all the (living) endings, BEN LINUS got one of the better ones. After a life of disappointment at not being special, he gets to be the right-hand man to the island's latest protector. The bit earlier when he risked his life to save Hurley actually got a "NO WAY!" from me, for being something we don't usually see him doing.
dorkimoe said:
why did eloise not want faraday to go?
In life she shot him and then fucked up his life to preserve destiny. I took it she just wanted as much time with him in this place as possible without things getting all weird and him remembering who killed him.

I mean, if they're already dead, who cares if Locke can walk? Dude's just a spirit.
It's not important that he can walk. It's important that he can work through his emotional hangups that stopped him from seeking the surgery.

Thought it was kind of funny/interesting in addition to the Oceanic 6, there was also the Ajira 6.
And I really wonder what kind of story they'll tell the world. Hurley might have more trouble to deal with if people start to think there's something really weird they should be investigating.

It's not punishment, I don't think. Just Ben's choice to acknowledge that perhaps he doesn't belong in there with everyone else. He respects them and he knows that even though he might be invited, he still doesn't think he has a place in there even though he probably does. Ben was always an outcast, removed from the group, and keeping him outside in the courtyard as everyone else enters the church was just pitch-perfect. He was redeemed because he stayed behind on the island to help Hurley run the joint for however long he did and this gave him "permission" to go in, but despite this, he just feels that he shouldn't. He does say that there are things he needs to do first and yes, this probably has something to do with Alex and Danielle. I'm just talking about the symbolism created for his character in relation to him turning down Hurley's offer to come inside.

Kind wish there was more from all seasons, like some sort of Hatch/failsafe key, a Donkey wheel, etc.

Wow at the Jack, and Christian scene being top secret....Even Jorge didn't know WTF was going on, code name Jin and Sun's wedding...:lol :lol

From Tabula Rasa (Season one):

Kate: I want to tell you what I did... Why he was after me.

Jack: I don't want to know. It doesn't matter Kate. Who we were, what we did before this, before the crash. It doesn't really. Three days ago we all died, we should be able to start over.

Regarding the X-timeline and Kate, it's just like on the island.. what she did is not important. It's about moving on. And just like on the island, Jack chooses to trust her no matter her past.

I see.

I agree that the symbolism was perfect. It was actually one of my favorite moments in the whole episode. When Locke stopped his wheelchair in front of him, I was on the edge of my seat. Really enjoyed the Hurley moment as well. Sorta wish that him and Jack had a word. Actually, I could sit there and watch everyone walk by, all of those encounters would have been interesting. Juliet, Sawyer, Kate....:lol
