Not that I can see, take Kate for example, she's meant to be maybe thirty when the show ended? So she might have lived another forty or so years? and yet after that time, in purgatory she is waiting hand in hand with Jack. She might have been remarried, had children etc, none of that is reflected, that is the same for everyone in that church. Hurley could have lived for thousands of years after Jack's death.

Well yeah, that's sort of the point. As Christian said, the most important part of their lives is the time they spent together. After building their relationships on the island, unfortunately, after MIB was killed and Hurley named the new protector, in a way the next step was to die and be reunited. I think that's very intriguing, and moving.

Hell, for all we know, Kate may have went to jail. Sawyer may have went to jail. Things could have been good, or horrible. We don't know. What we do know is that everyone eventually finds each other and finds contention beyond their mortal lives.

So yeah, it's kind of depressing to think what the rest of their lives may have been like, but the island gave them all a purpose and the means to do something important with their lives-- and most of them had a hand in MIB's downfall. Had they not crashed on the island, many of their lives would have been very empty. The purpose of the flashbacks early on were to show how shitty some of their lives were.

So for me, it's not really about how the rest of their lives played out, the ones who escaped, but rather their time on the island and the gift that the island gave them in the long run.

True, but you can take that to mean she lived the rest of her life missing Jack and depressed over his death.

We don't really know, so it's kinda pointless to discuss their lives afterward.

Hurley built a huge statue of Jack on the Island, and all of our Losties came to live in it. Like a resort.

Or a foot.
Very true, but Christian does say that the time they all shared was the most significant thing any of them ever did. It gives the impression that nothing after Jack's death is even noteworthy. I don't find that a bad thing particularly, I personally like it as a viewer because it gives me the perception that I saw the end of what mattered and that everything 'after' that isn't really important. But at the same time I feel like it takes something away from the other characters. I'm not really sure of my opinion either way to be honest.

Absolutely.

Desmond gets heavy exposure to the energy being grounded by The Swan. What happens after this? Desmond can mentally "flash" to the future. Seasons 3 and 4 heavily demonstrate this. In season 6, Desmond can now flash back and forth between island reality and the flash-sideways verse, which is the afterlife.

If Desmond hadn't been exposed to the energy when he turned the failsafe key, he would not have developed this unique ability. Therefore, the island's power and the afterlife must be interconnected, as the island's power granted Desmond the ability to visit the afterlife verse.

The relationship between Desmond and Penny is ingenious, then, as it demonstrates the idea of a constant, or someone deeply connected to you that can ground you between the two realities. This person, or object (like Christian's casket) must exist in both frames to act as a conduit so that your mental state, or soul even, can exist in both realities. All the characters needed a constant so that they could find one another in the afterlife.

The island is just an island. What makes the island special is the light, and the light is neatly explained through Desmond's character developments. It is the island's power that gives Desmond the ability to transpose to the afterlife reality, thus, to me it means that the light source on the island is what gives every living being the means to move on to this afterlife state-- not just the characters on the island, but everyone. That's what Mother meant when she said that if the light goes out on the island, it goes out everywhere.

That's why it needs to be protected from something or someone like The Man in Black. Without the island's light, everyone that dies would be forever trapped in a limbo state, like the whisperers on the island. All of this information exists within the show and while everyone can come to their own conclusions, this is mine. Still, many act as though you didn't get any answers about what the island is or what the light is, but I beg to differ.

Yeah, its amazing, i love the big answers of season 6, the problem is, they dont straight up say them, so 99% of the audience will never know any of what you just said.

Thats not our problem though.

Also I have something to think about, in Ab aeterno Hurley says "we have to stop the man in black, because if we dont, we all go to hell"

So i think instead of everyone being trapped in a limbo state, we would go to hell, because no "heaven" or w/e you want to call it would exist.

The ending is genius. Like others have said, I don't understand the frustration over it when it is really the epilogue to the story.

Basically, the island stuff happens, Jack sees the plane and dies...flashes to himself on the plane...then watch the sideways like that.

I wonder if some pissed off fan will cut out the sideways and cut them together and put them after? People are strange like that.

I love the ending so much, but I would definitely be open to an ending where the sideways wasn't the afterlife and this big event that everyone was heading to (the concert) led to everyone reconnecting and realizing what happened bridging the gap between the split timeline.

Or, like everyone thought in the beginning after LA X aired, what if they landed...but the events that played out on island played out in real life...further cementing the 'fate' thing. When Jin was in handcuffs everyone was comparing it to when he was handcuffed on the island to the plane part. There were other things, too...but that would have been interesting.

No matter what happened, what happened happened.

That's not to say I wish we had a different ending. The ending we got is the only true way to be satisfied and not want more, IMO.

I cannot think of a single resolution that I didn't get. The characters both got resolution during the island events as well as in the afterlife. Jack and Hurley's last scene there is just ridiculous as is Giacchino's music. The beginning of "Hurley's Coronation" on the newly released last episodes soundtrack blows my mind.

So I kinda freaked and bought the "Last episodes" OST when I saw there are supposedly only 5000 copies made. I don't even own the normal Season 6 OST yet.

When is the encyclopedia supposed to be in stock on Amazon UK?

The End is not for everyone. Maybe it was a mistake to make a resolution only the big Lost fans will get, and thus alien out the casual viewers who are left confused with what just happened.

That said, The End is one of the best, if not the best, TV finale I have ever seen.

Fuck the casual viewers. They'll move on to something else, I'll still be watching Lost.

I also loved The End, Willy.

Is the Encyclopaedia out in the UK yet? I haven't been able to see it at all in Waterstones or WH Smiths. Both Amazon and Play.com say that the book will be in stock on the 21st and that I can pre-order it?

I was a big Lost fan and I hated The End.

I received mine from Amazon.co.uk last monday. Someone else here did too, I believe. They sent an email just before though saying the release date had been pushed back until the 25th, so I don't know if the email was a mistake or if they just got them early and sent them out.

The "Drive shaft" version of Parting Words is crazy... it's like an early 90s sitcom theme song.

Was at the Austin Film Festival for the last few days. I met both Lapidus and Miles at the conference (Fahey was presenting an award for Robert Rodriguez; I have no idea why Leung was there). Got a group picture with the two of them. :D

Jeff Fahey is a really chill guy in person, and seemingly loves meeting Lost fans (if how he spoke to me and my friend was any indication). When he pointed out Leung was also there, he said "And did you see Miles too?"...I couldn't get over how he called him Miles, and not Ken. :lol

btw, his chest hair is epic. He was wearing a v-neck to show it off in all its glory.

im considering asking for the lost series for christmas. it's quite expensive though damn. i know that means its worth having someone else pay haha but theres other things i need that would be more useful. have any purchasers in this thread regretted the purchase? do you rewatch it at all?

man i loved this show.

totally jealous.

I 'got' the ending, I just didn't like it very much. Well I did love the Island stuff, but certainly not all of it. And the X world/timeline being purgatory kind of bummed me out.

Post that pic!

And LOST is just about the most rewatchable series ever, so go for it btk.

Here's a profile shot of Fahey I managed to grab before heading up to meet him:

Caught Ken Leung by complete chance, hence the blurriness:

I'll post the group shot once I fix whatever's going on with my eyes...they look simultaneously open and closed :lol

Amazon have changed the page of the Encyclopedia to 'Currently unavailable'. Play.com also still says 'Pre-order for the 21st October'. :(

Sorry to bump this...

Just started watching the show the other week and thanks to Hulu, I'm on episode 1 of season 2. Completely obsessed. I have been putting off other things I have to do in order to watch this show.

My only caveat is that some characters are been more annoying than enjoyable. The only ones I like so far are Jack, Charlie, Sayid, Boone, Jin and Sun. Sometimes Hurley. And there really aren't any good female characters beyond Sun (if I hear "MY BABY" one more time...).

Either way, great show, I can't wait to finish it.

There is a whole episode of 'MY BABY' (YOU HAVE TO SAVE THE BABY CHARLIE, CHARLIE SAVE THE BABY, YOU HAVE YOU TO SAVE THE BABY CHARLIE!!!11!!11ONE!!1), it was the worst of the show till a season six episode stole that position.

I hated Charlie by the point you're at.

Somebody really needs to re-edit the final scene of The End so that the Drive Shaft version of Parting Words plays over the closing montage. The guitar part would kick in just before Locke says, 'We've been waiting for you', and then the drums enter and they'd all be rockin' out in the church. :D

EDIT:
Oh wow, I just tried it, and it's both hilarious and awesome! Gives the whole thing a 'teen movie ending' vibe it never had before. :lol
The timings don't quite match up, but so long as you make sure the guitar part hits at the right time you're set. Sadly, the track cuts out with about a minute and twenty of screen-time still to go, but I'm sure you could loop a section of the song to solve that.

You're brave to come into this thread when you're still watching the series. This is spoiler city.

It's an amazing track. I only listen to that one track in my car. I'm surprised nobody else is talking about it.

Which season 6 episode? Across the Sea?

Hes gotta be talking about WKD, thats the worst episode of the whole show imo
I watched it for the second time on blu ray and it wasn't that bad. Definitely the worst of season 6, though.

Yenrot said:
I managed to forget about that episode. •shudder•

I love season 6.

I considered WKD, Recon and The Package to be the weakest of the season, but I just rewatched and Recon and TP were actually quite good. Not amazing, not great, but entertaining.

WKD however :lol

Yeah it's funny...with no pressure on the episode my second time watching, I enjoyed the episode for its strengths (ie. Sawyer) and didn't focus so muhc on the OMG NO ANSWERS!!!111 Turned out to be another good episode.

I was talking about Across the Sea, but there are a number of quite below par episodes so I can understand the confusion.

Drealmcc0y said:
Its just 1 scene, WKD has several moments that are some of the worst scenes of the whole show.

I honestly don't get the hate. I watched it and it seemed fine to me and I loved the dock scene. More power to me? :lol

Sure its just an opinion, but to me, there were so many scenes that really put me off.

I wanna add, i like the jack taking the pill scene too.

My poor blu-ray box set. It's sitting at home, cold and lonely. I opened it once, explored it, then shut it away for months.
I hope it still loves me when I finally start my series rewatch.

Drealmcc0y said:
You mean with Eggtown, The other women and something nice back home?
The Other Woman is the weakest point of the season, and it's still immeasurably better than Across the Sea.

Drealmcc0y said:
Im just gonna lay it out there:

AtS is one of my favourite episodes of the show.
It's middle of the pack for me. Relative to the episodes around it and the story it tried to tell it's bad, but it's still a great episode.

It's good and informative. Don't get the hate for that one either. The acting is kind of bad in spots but when you piece everything together it's quite good. I think it works best on rewatches but it completely ties into everything that's going on.

I thought it was horrific. Even Allison Janney was bad in it, she's probably the best female tv drama actress in the industry.

Personally its very fascinating to me AtS.

Im really intrigued by MiB and Jacob and I love the fantasy part of lost rather than the sci fi
