"Lots of PS4 game reviews coming in the next two weeks but not Xbone"

Honestly... I wouldn't mind a lower resolution/framerate if it meant the game utilizes other system functionality (such as voice commands, gestures, game acoustics ect...) to deliver a richer/deeper gameplay experience. Sell me on the fun factor. I don't HAVE to have the best graphics, if you're doing something that is more intrinsically fun than what the competition offers... be that/do that. Not this "I don't know!" BS.
No thank you.

I have never hated a human being as much as GAF hates Arthur Gies.

I'm kind of curious what it feels like. Seems kind of exciting.
I'm pretty sure he masturbates to negative feedback. Press Reset, the gift that keeps on giving..

so that people don't cancel preorders duh.

Not everyone follows day to day news as we do.

Most of 360 gamers that played cod have Xbone preordered, but they don't follow the news. Now if they had 2-3 weeks heads up to find out. Well a lot of X1 would be canceled.
But if you get review on day 1 of the console release. It's too late.
It's sad to think people would blow this amount of money while remaining blissfully ignorant.
It's also sad to think that the Xbone's shit will stink so bad once the embargo lifts that they have to play these kinds of games in the first place.

If it's really that preordained they really just need to man up and delay the launch. Once the system is out there with a bad rep with burned first day purchasers there's no coming back. Even with 720p TitanFall launching in March.

Plus, you'll be saddling all of of your "valued retail partners" with returns and refund requests and visions of "three red lights" dancing in their nightmares.

Maybe there's an embargo on the embargo.
What we really need to know is whether there's an embargo on the embargo that's on the embargo. What level of embargo can we, as the idiot public, be granted exposure to?

The industry as a whole needs to take a long, hard look at itself.

Journalism in particular doesn't seem far removed from PR, come on, make a name for yourself, do what journalists do in every other part of life, investigate.
But then they'll lose out on their free games before launch and all of their precious ad revenue hits to get paid by the very publishers you're asking them to hold accountable. It's the classic "don't bite the hand that feeds you" gambit.

Look at it this way. It's OUR fault for labeling them as journalists. They're not. They're media. They ARE PR. They just happen to be PR with no formally declared allegiance. Unless your name is Arthur Gies.

They probably only sent out the best versions of their games for review. It has happened before with a ps3 game (don't remember which one).
This is quite likely the case. Third-parties want to put their best foot forward to kick off next-gen. If one version of the game is noticeably inferior to the other, why would you want to risk having both versions judged negatively on the risk that someone in the media will elect to play the inferior port? A reviewer is only going to play a game once and then review both versions on it. We know this.

Might as well just not send them out at all. Let the press buy their Xbox One copies in stores on the 22nd along with everyone else.

I couldn't have put this better myself. I was just complaining about how crap the gaming "journalism" is in another thread. We are looking at spending hundreds of dollars for one console, over a thousand if you buy both. We should be able to fully educate ourselves with unbiased journalism which is becoming more and more impossible to find.

I trust the info I gain from truthfacts more than what a journalist says. That worries me and shows what a bad state games journalism is in.

I appreciate Sites Like Gamersyde who provide us with good direct feed footage and dont force opinions on people, they just show you stuff and let you make your ow mind up, but some sites are terrible.

Really? I always assumed he was a enabling/apologetic fanboy that pretended to be a journalist.

But what did he lie about?

Well that too. He uses his "journalist" position to push his console fanboy agenda to others. "Secret sauce", discrete gpu, etc. Things that just aren't based in reality. Its embarrassing.

Normal Person: The sky is blue.

Arthur Gies: There's a vocal minority saying that the sky is blue and not green. Sure.

NP: What? The sky is clearly blue.

AG: I'm so glad that the hyperbolic Internet really thinks that the sky will be blue tomorrow.

NP: Why "tomorrow"?

AG: Can't say anymore. GAF is probably already melting down.

NP: Well yeah, because the sky is blue and not green.

AG: If you're an entitled Pokemon Blue fanboy who can't accept green.

NP: What? I never even mentioned...

AG: We'll see. Maybe. You might be surprised.

THE NEXT DAY

NP: Sky's still blue, brah.

AG: Is it? (link to photo of grass)

NP: That's grass. Do you know what "the sky" is?

AG: I know what your harassing buddies insist the sky is, and bully anyone who says otherwise. Blocked.
You win a cookie.

The only dumb reason I can think of is that they need to download the day one patch before they're able to play their review copies or something like that.

That "if you don't work at Maxis quote" is eerily reminiscent of Larry Hyrb talking about DRM to Angry Joe.

The worst thing is I believe that quote is from after modders were playing sim city offline.

To clarify, Sim City is currently playable offline with modifications, let's all just think about that and how right Arthur always is.

Jesus Christ, he's such a huge fucking hypocrite.

That was sad to see.

Sounds like a fanboy yes. Its really sad that I can take <random GAFer> words as truth where I doubt these "journalist" straight away :/
(If there are super duper GAF users everyone here knows about or should know about sorry).

So... Could it be :

Xbox One sent to press are still DRM locked. Day One patch to get the DRM is not available to the press, so they can't play games before release day because they still have to be activated online first ?

Maybe Microsoft bans reviewers xbl accounts if they are caught playing a game before a given embargo date.

If a random GAF member posts new gaming information without a source, he or she has a very short window of time to prove to the mods that their inside information is legit.

I consider it pretty disappointing that some members of the gaming press like Arther spout inaccurate information on a regular basis, and when they're called out on it... they double down and go into attack mode. It just makes the industry look unprofessional.

So what is the reason? Getting a bit tired of this elusive stuff. People are expected to pay $499 for this thing

Yeah, the whole we'll let you know after you've bought the system is absolutely tiring. I wish they would just SELL the damn box. Show/explain the merits of the system and believe in it.

Talk about the experience a user will have when purchasing the X1. Be as honest as possible as CBOAT says without killing your business of course.

As many pointed out, I also believe Microsoft just wasn't ready to launch this early. It really shows.

It just makes the industry look unprofessional.

The industry, by and large, is unprofessional. Too much influence ($$$) from major players to have any sort of real honesty. A few sites get away with it but not many dare. Get cut off from MS/Sony and you are kinda screwed.
