LTTP: A Nightmare on Elm Street Series

One and Dream Warriors are great, New Nightmare is good. New Nightmare is kind of disappointing, though. It's a really cool idea, but isn't executed as well as it could have been. So, while I like it, it's one of those movies that was so close to being something fantastic that it sucks it didn't quite reach its potential.

I don't care what anyone says, Jackie Haley did a good Freddy.

Horror fans tend to be stuck on certain people playing certain roles, see Jason.

He was fine. It was the movie around him that sucked.

2 has a lot of unintentional comedy...

I think it was fully intentional.

So whats everyones favorite kill?

For pure horror, nothing will ever top Tina's death from the original. Just seeing her get cut the fuck open in the real world still freaks me out.

the puppet from part 3 might be my favorite, drawn out, gross, surrealistic, bloody, involves the whole cast, good stuff.

yeah that one is really good. that's like the one kill in the entire series that actually grosses me out.

Freddy's Dead
Freddy's Revenge
The Dream Child

I love each and every one of these films. Dream Master is special to me. It's the one from my childhood. That movie spoke to me as a kid. Still love it to death. Also I think Freddy's Dead is incredibly underrated. It was damn funny yes, but had some of the darkest moments in the franchise.

Best kill is Tina's death. No questions asked. Insanely creepy and stylish.

My collection of...handwear.

2010 is the best one. I will say that the parents were the worst part and their motivation was kind of misguided, but I liked the rest and I like JEH's version of Freddy. It's like an evil Tom Waits that kills people. The old Freddy is fun and all, but it was more goofy than scary.

Loved the Nightmare on Elm Street films. A Nightmare on Elm Street, Dream Warriors and New Nightmare especially. The music and overall themes struck a cord with me. Easily my favorite horror series.

Few people know about the spin-off television series; Freddy's Nightmares. 1988-1990. It was a fairly humorous show that aired on Saturday nights on NBC and WWOR-TV (a station for the NYC market that was available on cable in Chicago). Each episode of Freddy's Nightmares ended with a surprise. Tales From the Crypt later followed the same formula in 1989.

Funny story, none of it was intentional. The comedy, the homo-eroticism, none of it. One of the best things about the documentary is the people behind it talking about how they didn't realize any of the obvious until way later.

I thought the director says it was on purpose, while no one else knew/realized it? Been a while since I watched it, though.

I loved all of the ANOES films. If there was one that I could've done without, it's Freddy's Dead. That was awful all around. I do think part 5 is a bit better than it gets credit for, and a lot of people I know hate part 2 because of the homoerotic undertones, but I also think it's underrated due to it really being the last true Nightmare film where Freddy is cracking jokes before every kill and it was my first Nightmare movie.

My ranking:

1. Original
2. 3
3. 2
4. New Nightmare
5. 5
6. 4
7. Jason vs. Freddy
8. Freddy's Dead
9. Remake

Even though 2 gives Freddy weird powers (which makes sense, because his powers hadn't really been set in stone at that point), and is thus the oddball of the series, it is secretly the best of the sequels.

Also, fuck the remake to death. The dreams should have been nuttier visually. Freddy should have been revealed to be innocent of the allegations, which would have imbued it with some allegorical utility post 9/11.

For me, the ranking goes like this:
A Nightmare On Elm Street
Dream Warriors
New Nightmare
Dream Master
Dream Child
Freddy's Revenge
Remake

Never watched Freddy's Dead. In fact, it's the only Nightmare movie I never watched. Freddy vs Jason was quite good too, but I kinda felt like the creators favored Jason more, although Freddy was still pretty badass. The remake was pure crap, though, and I didn't like Jackie's Freddy at all.
