Lttp: Burnout Paradise

Still my game of this generation. DJ Atomica is fucking great, and so is the soundtrack. When I first heard Air on a G String after a crash I almost jizzed myself. Post-game support for this game should be the goddamn gold standard for any self-respecting dev. I've got high hopes for MW.

You get +1 Burnout Paradise points from me. I loved this guy.

Ive been working on covering an early version of Burnout Paradise, a build where it is still known as Burnout 5, but it is pretty amazing how far along the game was over a year before it was released.

Can you tell us specifics or show any footage?!

I got it a few months ago. Always got lost on races, :(

Just keep heading in the lane of which direction you are heading until street names start blinking on the top of the screen, and turn the position it is stating. : )
Oh, and ram into your opponents' cars like as if you are about to be arrested for a DUI. Should work! Haha.

So many people wanted to hate on this game when it launched, but Crierion's commitment showed everyone how a dev coud be. The game is a top ten of a generation.

Footage is coming tomorrow or Monday, depending on when I get to doing the commentary. It pretty much looks like you would expect, an unfinished Paradise City.

It takes a while to get used to, but pay attention to the road signs at the top of the screen (as well as your car's turn signal). They'll automatically signal you when a turn is coming up that you need to take to stay 'on course,' and if you miss a turn or take an alternate route they'll automatically keep guiding you toward your goal. It's hard to get lost once you know to watch for the game's feedback.

Ahh, okay, thanks! Are you opening a new topic for it, or going to post it here? I would LOVE to see it then! : )

And with all the people stating that this is their game of the generation, I agree too! In fact, this and Uncharted 3! Hence my name, CriterionDog. Criterion Games and NaughtyDog combined! Woo!

Woah, the logo alone makes me jizz in my pants! I will follow your topic as well! And that build date! November 13th, 2006?! Man, for some reason, I thought this game started development in early January! No clue why.

I love this game, but tend to get a little obsessed with gate-hunting forgetting all about mission progression. I might like Burnout Revenge just a hair more.

I think Most Wanted is really going to mix it up as far as event types.

Yeah, I was surprised how early it was, and yet how much it resembles the final game. Its no mystery that it was known as Burnout 5 for a while, since that was how it was originally previewed (see here: http://www.1up.com/previews/burnout-5 ) but it is still pretty neat to have.

Well, I am sure that the name was Burnout 5, in development! I could have sworn that Burnout 6 was announced, in a EA press release in 2009, but I cannot seem to find it anymore... I will keep on looking!

I think the video Ill be posting ends up being around 15-20 minutes long. Not the most stable thing ever.

This reminds me, Burnout Legends is my portable secret pleasure.

I always wanted to try Paradise though.

Loved playing this game, the open world multiplayer challenges were a blast!

The only thing I miss was the old style crash mode, I wasn't a fan of the showtime replacement.

I bought this game twice, trying to get myself to like it, and I just couldn't. I wish the online servers for Burnout revenge weren't taken down, because I've had an itch to play something like it online for years, and I fear that itch will never get scratched.

hey hey, you you...

Great game, loved it to death, maybe my most played game of the generation followed by ME1.

Not going to lie, I actually liked that song..Top ten fav game this generation. I would like to know which racer I played more of this generation, this or Wipeout.

Only thing that sucked about that game was the fact you had to have an eye-toy camera to get one of those trophies which has nothing to do with the actual gameplay tbh.

Other than that, the game was great. A 9.5 out of 10 for me!!!

How much does this deter from the Takedown/Revenge model? I've never been able to get a definitive answer from someone who has extensively played all three. I'm sure the game is good, but is it like 3, at least?

I'm sad none of the other DLC they were planning (Planes, Time Travel, the fucking moon!) made it in.

Wait what

I don't know what impressed me more, the fact that Burnout Paradise was sooooo enjoyable and closer to Burnout 2 that any racers before BP, or the fact that EA actually let Criterion support this game for so long. The amount of content and support for the game is fantastic and shows the love that Criterion has for their IP.

I really should get this game again.

Burnout Paradise is my GAME of the GENERATION

I fucking purchased that shit 5+ times, 5th time was Digital just for keepsakes

Bought, resold, gave away, traded, but it always called me back =]
It is pure gaming bliss to me

I have the Platinum and all of it's glorious 98 Trophies

No game can keep you satiated for 5+ years for less than < $30 now or cheaper

Fuck I have it on Origin through a free promotion, just because if I ever get a good PC, that game will always be with me

Also custom soundtracks are a fucking godsend

Playing Tron Legacy Soundtrack with your motorcycle zooming past traffic on the highway feels so fucking good
"The Son of Flynn" playing while doing hair raising passes, is FUCKING DELICIOUS beyond means
Your eyes water up, heart races, heavy breathing, and that song to perk up your ears, while your brain is reminiscing that scene from the movie (watched it in 3D IMAX)

I can close my eyes and the memory of the adrenaline rush that is orgasmic comes to me

Sorry for the weird innuendo

Game deserves to be loved, played, and worshiped!

I feel like spending 1000 MSP on an island as big as just Downtown Paradise is a little silly, even if it comes with new cars.

Or 5 bucks on a Hawker Mech car, no matter how cool it looks.
It was 560 points for Big Surf Island for almost a year or so. Did the price get raised?

Also, I agree with most people ITT. One of the best racers this gen.
And DJ Atomika hate? Wut? I got psyched up when I started playing the new SSX and who starts talking and announcing stuff but the goddamned BO Paradise DJ. Really set the mood for me.

I see the BP Super Bundle is $30 on PSN. It sounds like a lot of content. I haven't played BP in 4 years, is the content purely MP focused?

The Ultimate Box is what you need to go buy

Has all DLC built in

You will not regret it

Fuck you can create/re-create any on your favorite moments from TV/Movies with the same music playing in the background

I might go re-install and patch r' us on my PS3 due to me jonesing this again
Gonna try to the Drive car chase scene, just bought it's OST... So Good!

Nope

You get a new island, with it's own zany tangibles to overcome
You get a party mode, if friend over, you can "pass the controller" and have a blast
Cops N' Robbers was a blast, no clue on the community at hand right now
Get all those $3+ per car that weren't priced right included
The toy cars are so fucking cute, try doing barrel rolls with 'en on ramps, fucking riot

Back to the Future car alone is worth it and it's hover mode LOL

One thing Fuck You! Wildcat Stadium and meet 7 other people... always 1-2 gotta ruin it for err' body

I am also lttp, but my thread woulda been a little different! I can't put this damn game down. Halfway through B-license with no sign of slowing down.

Nice sandbox racer with a fun soundtrack. I don't remember any of the objectives being that good though. For me, the fun was in doing tricks, stunts, and most of all just exploring the city.

As for straight up racing, the Motorstorm series has completely blown away everything imo.

Oh, and ram into your opponents' cars like as if you are about to be arrested for a DUI. Should work! Haha.
Oh I obviously do the second part, I played and loved Hot Pursuit. Placing second, MAXIMUM CARNAGE FIRST.

All the extra DLC, the speed of the game, the familiarity you built around exploring the city...

Burnout Paradise is easily one of the top five this gen for me. Up there with inFamous 2 and Red Dead.

You know shit is cray if you know where the streets/crossroads are and the shortcuts by heart.. HAHA!

So if I was to purchase the Ultimate Box, what content is missing exactly? I had a look and you get..

*New Vehicles including Motorbikes (Vrrrroom! Bikes! <3 )
*New Challenges
*Day/Night Cycle and Weather Effects

But what else is needed to make this the Complete Experience?

I loved it at first but the game got worse over time. I got 100% on PS3 and 360.

DLC sucked and was way too expensive (on 360)
Motorbikes ? Fuck off! dont want that in burnout.
Day and night cycle ? Sounds cool but you cant see shit during nighttime. It completely ruined the game for me. Lampposts not casting light ? wtfisthisshitpicard.jpg

Another problem is in multiplayer most players are just driving around doing challenges or whatever. You rarely get a 8 player race together and it takes way too long to do so. I ended up selling it and kept burnout revenge instead for the better multiplayer.

Oh and the soundtrack was fucking awful. I turned the music off completely after a few hours because it made me mad. Paradise city was the only good song

I fit in to the "I'm too stupid to navigate while driving at high speeds" category of people. Was there a way to make it easier during races? Open world driving was a great idea, but having to pause every few turns to look at the map was terrible.

I also didn't like Paradise when I first played it. The open world setting was offputting. I didn't like pausing the game and going to the map to look at where I should go.

After a year or two, I gave it another shot. I ended up liking the game to the point I even platinum'd it. I especially enjoyed multiplayer challenges.

oh man this game is great. i miss the crash events from burnout 3, but i absolutely love open world racing games like this. i can honestly drive for hours (ok maybe more like 20 minutes but still) just trying to find big jumps and collecting all the things. sort of like NFS: HP , which i need to see if my ps3 controller works with that game now

I have never played a Burnout game before this one so I never knew of it reputation, but I loved it. Sunk over 100 hours into it, it was so much fun and is my pick for most fun racer of the generation. I just recently reinstalled this too, LOL.

I loved the online challanges, watching people struggle to do barrel rolls at the air base was golden.

Or better yet me trying to do it in a van and hearing the reaction :D

Think I only had a few timed ones left, may pick it up for old times, I want the diamond p12.
