LTTP: Dangan Ronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc (Spoilers inside)

Just beat DR1 for the first time last night. Overall I loved it for the fast pacing and well written characters. Only complaint I could come up with would be that the epilogue was a bit too cheesy and wasn't as fulfilling as I was expecting.

Gonna try to start DR2 this weekend!

Edit: The soundtrack has some amazing tracks that have been stuck in my head for days.

DR1 is alright. Nothing about it really stands out to me, and I was like one of 3 people on GAF that was super hyped at localisation annoucement.

DR2 on the other hand is the best visual novel I've ever played. Incredible game from start to finish except the new hangman's gambit.

Case 2 was the only one I liked. I was surprised by the culprit and thought the story behind it was really well-told. The cases afterwards are far too convoluted while simultaneously being very easy to figure out who killed who from the start
seriously how apparent was it that Sakura killed herself from the get-go?

I hated the actual mechanics of the cases and there wasn't nearly enough free time to actually talk to and learn about people.

Despite all that I think the game is more than the sum of its parts and I don't regret playing it, despite having no interest in playing the sequel or further entries.

Okay, i havent played this games (i don't have a vita) but i was curious about them because of the premise, i read plot summaries for both DR1 and DR2 and watched all the executions on youtube (because frankly, im a fan of death animations in games, like the fatalities in MK, that was my main draw towards investigating the series), and as an outsider to the series, i have a question for hardcore fans of it, specially seeing people hype DR2 here.

Do you felt that DR2 was less gruesome and kinda more...neutered in violence than DR1?
I mean, the executions in DR2 are...incredibly cartoony, like way WAY more so than DR1 and then
im told everything was a VR simulation so nobody actually died?
, maybe i need to actually play the games to have a more informed opinion, but it seems like they took a step back with the horrifying stuff judging from that.

I loved DR1.

Currently playing DR2 I'm disappointed so far. That said I just started chapter 2 so the game can still pick up.
The fact that I'm playing this right after Persona 4 doesn't help. I don't like any of the characters so far, unlike DR1 where I liked many.

Yeah, I thought DR1 was pretty good, but DR2 absolutely annihilated it. Much better character work, much more engaging plot, and (except for one case) better mysteries compared to the original.

The climax of DR2 is fantastic.

Yeah it is usually not to hard to guess who the killer is in most of the cases but I found that the reveal of the killer usually wasn't as interesting as the motive's and actions of all the characters involved in the case.

And yes, not enough free time with people.

Persona 4 is a nearly impossible act to follow especially when it comes to character work and development

DR2 takes a little while to get going there. Gotta cull their numbers a bit >_> (although I do like some of the characters that die). There are more DR2 than DR1 characters I flat out don't like, but some of them, including ones I disliked originally, really shine later on.
Hina-level support! (except Asahina's loveable from the get-go)
