LTTP: Dark Souls (PS3)

I don't usually bother upgrading armour, but it certainly doesn't hurt.

Enchanted +4 hmmm. I'm not sure how much damage that is doing for you wiki says it scales B with INT at +4, which isn't amazing but it might be decent since you probably have high INT if you're a magic user, but you might want to test it against the damage of a +15 with buff. You could buy another one from Shiva if you don't have a spare.

Didn't think till now, but what I love for bosses is the Power Within pyromancy. Slap it on at the start of the fight and just tank. The damage boost with dusk crown and bellowing ring is almost too good - Good luck!

Yeah, my INT is 50 so it should scale pretty well.

What buff and +15 are you talking? +15 magic?

Stone greataxe, Obsidian greatsword, Gough's Greatbow, Manus Catalyst

good points. i dont usually think of
catalysts and bows
as str weapons but i guess in this case they are. also,
the obsidian greatsword
isnt strictly a str weapon, as it doesnt have any scaling and has relatively low stat requirements. you are right though, i shouldnt have said there arent any good str weapons in the dlc.

Once you reach Firelink Shrine there are several directions to go in. If you are finding it very hard to kill enemies, that's the game telling you not to go that way yet - and that's the kind of advice the game gives you, the environment and it's inhabitants themselves are the clues.

If you're in a graveyard area with skeleton warriors, you are going the wrong path for now, come back a little later. Try going up instead, have a look around Firelink Shrine, you will see the other way.

Don't worry too much about losing souls, especially early on. It will surprise you how easy it is, not too much further in the game, to get amounts you were precious about early on.

General tips:

- Watch your green stamina bar. When you block hits stamina depletes, as well as when you yourself attack. And with your shield up it regenerates much slower, so it's important to drop your guard when you're not blocking a hit so that it will regen faster. No stamina = guardbreak and stun leaving you completely open to the enemy. Having said that, if you're walking into a new area, you never know what is going to lunge out at you, so walk with your shield up just in case! Caution is rewarded in Dark Souls - running into a new area YOLO-style can have you sent back to your last bonfire before you even know what happened!

- Upgrading your weapon is more important than levelling up your character. As soon as you are able to start doing so, start upgrading your primary weapon of choice, and there are many weapons to chose from so have a play with the different types, it's fun how varied they are.

- Levelling up: The resistance stat is useless, never waste points on that. Vitality and Endurance are important for any character build. The rest is kind of obvious, if you're a magic user, Intelligence is important, a Cleric, Faith, you want to use big weapons, strength etc, etc.

- Have fun! The game isn't anywhere near as punishing as it's made out to be, a lot of it is common sense.

Thanx for the post

I feel this is more accurate.

When Dark Souls fucks you up, it's because you fucked up. I respect that. Except for the Anor Londo archers, that's just complete bullshit.

If you're talking about the two archers that shoot at you while you run uphill on the little path, it's actually pretty easy to deal with by just sprinting up the path while zigzagging and then cutting right immediately, taking you out of the line of sight of the left archer. Other archers are pretty easy to just dodge roll through.

Yeah, my INT is 50 so it should scale pretty well.

What buff and +15 are you talking? +15 magic?
+15 weapon, the maximum upgrade for a standard upgrade or +14 if you don't want to use a slab.

Weapon buff since you have such high INT you should use Crystal Magic Weapon. It will get a damage increase from dusk crown, bellowing ring (or lingering ring to make the buff last longer), stack that with power within - all that stacked on to a +15 weapon should rip through anything.

If you haven't used weapon buffs yet, you need the catalyst in your left hand to buff the weapon in the right hand. Only standard weapons can be buffed, no elemental, enchanted etc, that's why I suggest getting another Uchi to take to +15.

Just picked up my 1st playthrough (Pyromancer, SL27) after a year. Got stuck on the Gargoyles, but now I want to beat them.

So I got the Astora's Straight Sword & Dragon Crest Shield. Figured out the deal with "humanity" and being able to summon. Summoned Solaire, beat the Gargoyles.

Now I've got a solid feel for the combat and summoning systems. Excited to find out what's next. How long is this game, btw?

my first playthrough was something like 50 hours. my second, which was by no means a speed run, was like 12. the game changes completely once you know where you are going.

Word. I'm using a FAQ to figure out the next best area (hate, hate, open world games - just tell me where to go next) so I think it shouldn't be too long.

by "know where you are going" i meant more like how to navigate each area and what enemies you are likely to face in each location. first playthrough is probably 50 hours, as i said. where are you know?

That's actually pretty common. He went lemming on me too on my PC walkthrough; don't remember if he did so on PS3 as well, but I think so.
Funnily enough I caught me off guard each time (even the second) and was quite hilarious.

I couldn't believe it, well happy tho.

Gona fire up another hour play through now

Ive been told about some drake sword and it's good I've kicked some ladders before a campfire but i'll just plod on.

If it wasn't for this stream chat I would have gave up.

Drake sword is only good for a very small part of the game because it doesn't scale damage with your stats. If you use it, be sure to also be upgrading a weapon in tandem or you'll regret it later.

He's better off with a zwei, he'll have to adjust but that blade just flattens enemies.

But yeah, right now drake would help him.

Finally got my platinum for this game but I'm still going to continue playing it because it's so damn good! I think my favorite portion of the game is the Atorias of the Abyss dlc, all three boss battles were great fun. I'll say this though, the only boss that becomes increasingly more difficult as opposed to easier on subsequent new game+ runs are the Four Kings, my Balder Side Sword does such pathetic damage I can barely kill a single one before another pops out and this is all while buffing it with the Sunlight Blade Miracle.

I think what I'll do is increase my builds resistance to 50, because my dexterity, strength, endurance and vitality are all at 50, with my faith and intelligence being 30 and 21 respectively. Hopefully that'll help me tank alot of their attacks and not have to heal as often

pfft, I never summoned once in my first playthroughs. TIME TO STEP IT UP. You also picked one of the more OP builds. I expect more.

He could attempt to get a black knight sword if he's lucky as a drop from one of the two black knights in the undead burg/parish area and increase his strength to wield it. That helped me out tremendously in my first play through; I didn't have to bother with another weapon

If they drop sure, but the zwei is on a corpse 50 feet from the fire link bonfire.

Nooo.

Even when your main stats have hit diminishing returns, resistance isn't worth upgrading. max out your resistance using the mugenmonkey character builder and look at the laughable difference between base and 99 RES. If you want that extra DEF you can stack 99 humanity. Take your faith to 50 to add a ton of damage to that sunlight blade.

Also with 50STR/DEX (damn!) you are much better off with a weapon that scales with both stats rather than the BSS which only scales with DEX. Try out a +15 claymore, greatsword, halberd, etc

My copy arrived and it's in a French subtitled Greatest Hits case. Never seen one of these before.

Im probably gonna start it up Friday night and see where it takes me. Im still pretty nervous though, even after finishing Demons Souls a few years ago.

ohh, word. i beat the gargoyles, rang the first bell, now i'm at the capra demon. dude is being a real asshole.

iiiiiiiiiiiiite

Agreed, the Four Kings become pretty nightmarish on later difficulties (i probably found them the easiest of the four Lord Soul bosses on normal mode).

Bed of Chaos usually gives me trouble on any difficulty though, feels like so much trial and error with that boss. :(

if you can get the drake sword cant you get the claymore? claymore may not have the power of the zwei, but it is a pretty great weapon in its own right.

iiiiiiiiiiiiite

capra demon is one of the most bullshit fights in the whole game. there is a lot of luck, and you can basically win or lose the fight in the first 20 seconds.

and if you can i do recommend getting through the game the first time without summoning. summoning is not only easy mode, but it often means you dont have to learn enemy attack patterns because you dont have to be as careful. mastery is a lot of the fun and satisfaction of this game.

Guys Im new to the game. I just got attacked by something floatin a kind of "death" person. I couldnt harm it but it was shooting something black at me. What is this enemy? How do I kill it

You'll have no problems, most people regard Dark as easier than Demon's.

Agreed, having finished Demon's after Dark, I found the former to be the more difficult of the two. It's harder to max upgrade weapons, the first hour you can't level up at all, the tendencies, vitality is cut in half (or down to 75% if you have the ring) in soul form, and with the game being more obtuse about which level you should try next, this game was definitely more challenging.

Not to mention Demon's final boss shits all over Dark's. I still have nightmares about that guy.

At the beginning dont know how it called
bird took me away
after that i went to the right and then up. A lot of guys with spears

If the black stuff explode, there are dudes in the upper level throwing that shit on you. If it just hits and damages, there is a dude with a crossbow somewhere. You can walk up to them and kill them, or block the bolts with your shield.

Or maybe it was a vagrant? The more I think about it, the more confused I get.

I also have the Great Sword of Atroias +5.

The "floating death person" sounds a bit like the exploding skulls in the Catacombs.

But you said it was shooting at you, you went up, and that the enemies have spears, so... I guess the other guys have you covered!

i checked what the thread bump allowed threshold was but i couldnt find it, but sorry if this is too old of a thread, as i cannot start my own.

I got this game during a steam summer sale and played it for about 10 minutes before deciding it was "decent, yeah its hard but difficulty doesnt make a game good"

Well, 2 days ago i started it up again for no reason whatsoever and my god...what an experience.

The world, the art, the experience, everything about it. The combat, the mechanics, always been on edge in combat...

This game came from nowhere to be, so far, my game of this generation. No game this gen has made me feel this kind of experience or satisfaction. It really does stand head and shoulders above the rest.

I love the total feeling of isolation too. I feel like its me against the world.

I am going to conquer this game if its the last thing i do. Honestly, every game this gen just feels empty after playing this. It feels like a GAME.

that's exactly the feeling I've got after finishing Dark Souls, everything else feels shallow. march can't come soon enough.

Pretty much. At least it has made the next gen nonhype easier to handle!

Currently playing through blighttown. i heard people hate this area, but im enjoying it!

I absolutely loved this game. I played through it I guess 4-5 times before finally going through with a level 1 playthrough. Definitely was a rush!

With this generation coming to an end soon, this game is in my top 3 for game of the generation. It is tough to pick just one game, but I have spent hundreds of hours playing Dark Souls and will probably play another hundred before Dark Souls 2. I just hope they release a PS4 port of Dark Souls 2, sometime in the months following its PS3/360/PC release. Im pretty sure I will be playing Dark Souls 2 for years just like I did with Demons/Dark Souls, and I hopefully I wont have to go back to my PS3 to play it. I will be more than happy to triple dip, paying to play Dark Souls 2 on PS3/4 and PC.

I still have Demons Souls to play through :D i never played it. I bought it, but just ended up going straight to dark souls. Hopefully its just as good!

I just got back into the game the other day even though I bought it the day it came out lol. Really good though, think I'm finally starting to get the feel for it. I cleared Sen's Fortress and Anor Londo and am just cruising around.
