LTTP: Dark Souls (PS3)

What about the mini bosses that are tougher than some of the actual bosses?

To be honest I treat every damn enemy in this game like a boss. :p
From the slash-fodder, to the minis, to the heavies.

Playing with fear has been an advantage for me. Well, until I act like a dumbass and get cocky/rush through.

I think I see myself become spoiled by the drake sword, the minions have become one hit fodder now.

:(
What should be my next weapon as a Wanderer?
Blahh I'll enjoy the payback while it lasts :P

Classes don't matter in Dark Souls. There's no "next weapon as a Wanderer." If you give us an idea of what type of weapons you like using, we can advise you on what stats to upgrade to take advantage of that weapon type. Alternatively, if you tell us which stats you've raised so far, we can recommend weapons that are logical fits for that build. The truth is, you have access to a dozen weapons right now that, when properly upgraded, will outclass the Drake Sword. It's just a question of which one you'd like to start forging.

EDIT:

Given that you've said you want to focus on melee, ask yourself whether you'd like to wield heavy or light weapons. Heavier weapons like greataxes or greatswords will require lots of strength. Of the lighter weapons, you could decide to use a spear (good for beginners since you can strike while shielding), a straight sword, or any number of other items. Some of the lighter weapons are best with DEX, but it varies.

Will post my current stats later, thanks for the heads up though.

Bit of advice: Bows make the game SO much easier. You can cheese so much shit with bows. They're good for luring enemies to you one by one too.

yeah, I've been using an upgraded Wing Spear and it really comes in handy in tight spaces (dat thrust!)

Wing spear is a great weapon. I leaned heavily on a lightning wing spear during my first playthrough.

This is very true. Poison arrows will solve a lot of problems.

roughly how many standard arrows does it take to kill that big red drake/dragon that firebombs the bridge?

Man, he just wrecks my ass when I try to get him in a stand-up fight.

Early in the game, how do you upgrade weapons to out-damage Drake or Black Knight Sword? I'm in Blighttown at the lower level and I don't see how I can upgrade any weapons to give me higher dps or even comparable damage to make me better off than the Black Knight. I know later on these will easily be outclassed, but early on, how so?

LOL, I wish Iron On t-shirts were still the fad, I would put that on some of my t shirts, especially at the gym.

I'm afraid I don't know exactly what it would take to outclass your Black Knight sword or Drake Sword. I know some people like to carry the Black Knight Halberd for the whole game, so it wouldn't surprise me if the sword were similarly useful. On the other hand, basic and intermediate upgrade items should be available to you now. You can raise your weapons to normal + 10 or Magic +5 / Enchanted +4 if you're willing to farm. Shards are easy enough to come by. The chunks will take more time. And titanite chunks are pretty limited until after Anor Londo.

early on before the game was patched you could do it with 150, maybe 200? AFTER the patch he regenerates health at a certain point so fast it's impossible without a monstrously powerful bow.

You're going to have to take him head on. Have fun!

And very early there was a fun glitch where you could snipe him with a single arrow from the Undead Parish and he'd fly off and - somehow - kill himself.

Ok just beat the bell gargoyles had to summon an npc, felt like cheating at first but there were 2 of them so I got over it

That sword sucks. IMO go with Man-serpent greatsword +15

i have been using the man serpent greatsword the entire second half of my current STR playthough. sword is awesome.

you dont need chunks to get to +10, just large shards, which you can farm before anor londo. you need chunks to get to 15, and you are right that they arent really common until anor londo.

your stats seem too evenly distributed. if you are playing a melee character you should probably focus on either STR or DEX and VIT and END. RES is useless, and you only want ATT and INT if you are using magic (pyro only requires ATT).

Roger, pity there is no re-spec
Ohhh fuck I accidentally started a fight and killed Solaire, i went and commited suicide and that didnt bring him back fuck i feel terrible

oh man I was dreading going back to those anor londo archers- they killed me more than anything else in the game first time around.

THIS time, fog ring + hawk ring + poison arrows makes a joke out of them. They'll never see you coming.

At least you didn't accidentally make the guy that forgives NPC anger mad by hitting him. I had to kill him lol now I can't afford to make anyone mad at me.

Fuck the Gaping Dragon wtf
He's cake.

Stay back until he rushes you (He telegraphs this for seemingly an eternity before he moves), stand out of the way, then run in and get some hits on his tail while he just sits there recovering. Back away when he stands upright, repeat.

I ended up using 2 summons that drew some of the attention from me and went to work with the black knight sword.
Ughhh Blighttown this is probably the most a terrible frame rate has affected me in a a game.
Update: Fuck the stray demon

knocked the dick off of Pinwheel. Got the Mask of the Father (kind of disappointing; wanted the creepy Mask of the Child).
Didn't even summon Leroy, either.

Out of the many challenges in this game, Pinwheel really seemed like a gift from the developers.

Those wooden-wheel skeletons, on the other hand, FUCK THEM.

You have ample opportunity to collect the other two masks, not that far away, even.

Tried to fight the big red dragon on the bridge again.

Got completely murdered.
He kept spamming his jump straight up/blast down fire move. I would get knocked down by the fire blast (even when blocking), slowly get up, have half a second to drink a flask, rinse, repeat.
Got some good, damaging hits off his foot/leg at the beginning. Then he started to cheese my ass. Grrrr.

I tried to beat him repeatedly, never did succeed until late in the game.

There are a couple safe spots for various attacks, but it's mostly a matter of two-handing your highest damage lightning weapon and getting lucky.

Am soul farming in the garden for about 2 nights now trying to get my strength to lvl 50.
Swinging the dragon king great axe is going to be goood.
How do you know when a weapon's damage scales with your stats?

Anor londo archers are easy to kill when you have the right timing to parry his attack.

The key is just the timing to start running up so that you can make it to the top without getting knocked off. Once you're at the top, you just have to run immediately to the corner. You need to have your shield up for this part, high stability and stamina will allow your shield to take 1 arrow without knocking you back. Once you're close enough it will trigger the ledge archer to put away his bow and pull a sword. Then back up a bit and as he runs at you and he'll just fall off the ledge.

Many people get stuck here and have to try it dozens of times to get it right. Once you've done it once, in future playthroughs you can usually get it done within 3 tries.

How do you know when a weapon's damage scales with your stats?
You can see how much anything scales in their respective stats. There are letters at the bottom going from S to E I believe with S being the best scaling. I think they always scale with your stats, it's just that some weapons scale better than others (50 str or even 99 won't do much with an E scale weapon for example). Scaling might also drop after 50 rapidly in all stats, I'm not sure.

I've just started this, and I am wondering is it worth paying for and installing the expansion DLC now, or waiting untill I've finished the game before doing that? Will I appreciate the extra content more if I wait?

Loving the interconnected world, too. Visually the game seems to be quite an upgrade; impressive.

I didn't die, not even once, to the Anor Londo archers. Just took it easy from "cover" to cover and then ran up until I was close enough to kick them (well, just the one to the right) down.

You can install the expansion if you want, that will not change anything in the game.
The expansion is a secret area and it's easier if you do it before a new game +. ;P

Since when do Silver Knights stagger from kicks?

Also lol @ screenshots above. Nice lightning zweihander.

I really enjoyed my time with Demon's Souls, although I never finished it. I picked up Dark Souls for the cheap and spent my entire holiday break obsessed with it. Messing around on New Game+ now, but it's been a real treat and one of the best games I've played in years. I feel like I could go at it for hundreds of hours still yet. Can't wait to see what the sequel brings.

Best game I have played this gen the pretty much the only one I obsessed enough to read about while I am not playing the actual game. That "hmm I should check that" really comes rarely in my mind anymore mid-work/schoolday

I was watching this parody music video earlier today and it reaffirmed my decision never to play this game. It just doesn't seem like fun playing through something that pointedly difficult.

I'm not one to usually say this kind of thing, but whoever was playing the game in this video really does suck. Are people just afraid of raising their shield?

The expansion has some of the strongest bosses in the game, so it's not a bad idea to wait until before you fight the last boss to buy it. But be aware that buying the expansion only grants you access to it, it's already installed due to online so you might have to fight invading players that use some devastating black magic on you.

I finally made it Anor and am at a bonfire after the ceiling rafter stuff. I'm still rocking the Black Knight Sword too, lol. I've got that upgraded to +4 and it's my best option so far. I took a few weapons to +10 and they're still not able to touch it in the damage department considering the weapons weight and my build. Once I can take weapons to +15 and start making some Lighting and Fire weapons I'm going to switch out. Man-Serpent at +10 is still too weak for me as well, but it does seem like an ok sword. It's got pretty much the same animations as BKS. I really want to use a katana and try out a fully upgraded Lightening or Fire whip. Uchi was my favorite weapon in Demon's and can't wait to have something similar fully upgraded here.

Started playing the game over the Christmas break and holy shit it's adictive. I did notice that they reused some assets and locations from Demon Souls. Blightown remind me of 5-1 (I detest Blightown, fuck that place). Undead parish is 1-1 1-2. The Castle where you ring the first bell has a lot of features to it that are similar to 3-1 and 3-2, even the 2 gargoyles on the roof, probably fan service with that one.

I don't know if this is true across all platforms but it seems like if you want to have ANY chance of surviving PvP nowadays you might as well hop online and search for a very specialized build.
