LTTP: Dark Souls (PS3)

Started playing the game over the Christmas break and holy shit it's adictive. I did notice that they reused some assets and locations from Demon Souls. Blightown remind me of 5-1 (I detest Blightown, fuck that place). Undead parish is 1-1 1-2. The Castle where you ring the first bell has a lot of features to it that are similar to 3-1 and 3-2, even the 2 gargoyles on the roof, probably fan service with that one.
I doubt there's actual reused assets since sony owns Demon's Souls hard. It might look similar but I don't think they picked actual meshes from the prior game.

I finally made it Anor and am at a bonfire after the ceiling rafter stuff. I'm still rocking the Black Knight Sword too, lol. I've got that upgraded to +4 and it's my best option so far. I took a few weapons to +10 and they're still not able to touch it in the damage department considering the weapons weight and my build. Once I can take weapons to +15 and start making some Lighting and Fire weapons I'm going to switch out. Man-Serpent at +10 is still too weak for me as well, but it does seem like an ok sword. It's got pretty much the same animations as BKS. I really want to use a katana and try out a fully upgraded Lightening or Fire whip. Uchi was my favorite weapon in Demon's and can't wait to have something similar fully upgraded here.

it depends on your build, but the man serpent great sword at +15 with 40 STR is pretty great. it is still pretty dominant in NG+ on my STR character. uchi and katanas are better if you are more focused on DEX.

Hey guys I've been playing Dark Souls on and off and I'm finally close to beating it. I have one or two questions pertaining to the DLC though.

1) I have one more Lords soul to get before I face the final boss. Is it cool to just DL the DLC and do that before going to face the end dude?

2) How big is the DLC in terms of Download size? A gig, etc? Also, how big is it?

Thanks a bunches.

1) You do not have to beat the final boss before doing the new content. In fact, the new content is only available before the final boss because beating the final boss kicks you to New Game+. The trickier question, and the one I can't answer, is whether you're able to access the new content on your current file when you've already played 90% of the game before downloading Artorias of the Abyss.

Accessing the new content requires you to hit a few triggers during the game.

- Kill Hydra
- Rescue Dusk from Golden Golem in cavern behind Hydra
- Reach Duke's Archive and defeat a golem carrying a broken pendant.
- Return to Dusk with Pendant.

In theory, once you download the file, the golem in the Duke's archive should spawn, and you'll be able to get the pendant and head off to the new content. But it's possible that the golem won't spawn until you start a new game (or new game +).

2. ) I think it's about 350 MB. The new content adds three new areas and three boss fights (although you could group them together as one giant new region since they're all accessed from the same portal), plus a new PvP arena. I don't know how long it would take you to clear it, but I'd say it's a bit longer than, say, Catacombs + Tomb of Giants or Demon Ruins + Lost Izalith. If you enjoyed Dark Souls, then it's worth downloading. One of the new boss fights is immediately among the best in the game.

Thanks bud. Praise the sun and all that.

I don't know if this is true across all platforms but it seems like if you want to have ANY chance of surviving PvP nowadays you might as well hop online and search for a very specialized build.

PvP up until about Level 50 is full of griefers. I have a build that I PvP'd with from Level 50-60 and found that range to have a good number of quality invasions.

I'm getting a little sick of the PvP though. Most people run and summon or just dance about. I will say surprisingly not many people know how to handle my End/Dex build. I just start slashing endlessly with my Uchi and they panic once the bleed hits. And it hits frequently since I'm using about 40+ End. Only a handful of people attempted to parry.

I bought the game again on steam yesterday. The first summon was a hacker who dropped 99 of half of the boss souls for me among other things. Talk about ruining the experience xD

At 50Str, 20 Dex.
Strapped on the stone armor and dusted off my Dragon King great axe and just wailed on Quelaag fight was over in like 15-20 seconds, could have probably been sooner if I was going in 2 handed.
Gahh I keep forgetting my full stats, wish I could pull them up online, You hear that FROM!! make sure this is in DS2!!

Crazy strong as it is slow

No worries, the golem appears as soon as the DLC is installed, anytime.

I think it's about 350 MB.
I don't know about the 360, but on PS3 the download is a mandatory update and the DLC itself is a 100KB unlock key.

Like this?

i got 2 play thoughs, both with 40 hours and both are stuck at Gravelord Nito

haha.. i really need to make the push and get past that demon of a boss

Not the planner but the current stats of my character, so I can get better advice as to what weapon/armor combo would suit me best to upgrade.

Though it seems like upgrading armor will take too much resources, armor should be upgraded as a set and not individual pieces.

Edit: Ha I am an idiot, I will make an account and enter my stats into the planner later.

Hhhhmmm, the internet seems unable to answer if I can access the DLC before the final boss fight. I don't really want to go through new game plus all the way up to Anor Lando. I guess I'll just beat the game.

That's a bit stupid that you can't access it from where I'm at. I can understand that they probably wanted it to feel cohesive or something (or if you need the lord vessel) but it's quite irksome.

Yep. 99 invasions out of 100 are dudes with either the uchi or the zwei and if they land so much as a glancing blow on me I'm dead. The remaining one invasion is usually a guy casting some massive AOE explosion that also KOs in one hit.

That seems to be the gist of Dark Souls PvP, the race to land a one-hit quitter before the other guy does.

lol. Using the same armor set, but my weapon is the Drake Sword +3.
Went back to the Undead Asylum after styling on the Cheshire Cat Covenant in the forest for a couple of hours and showed the Stray Demon who the real boss is!

Next up- Sen's Fortress!
Already took a quick test run through the first part and beat both of those headless demons in the watery basement. I think I'm ready to move forward.

Ha thanks for reminding me about him, that MOFO is mine when I get home!
I also need to go hunt down some more dragon scales and twinkling titanite.

Also I have 10 fingers, why can't I upgrade the number rings I can wear simultaneously :P!

I've recently been replaying the game again and I had a few questions about my current build.

The main stats of my build are STR:32, DEX:18, INT:32. The reason for this is because eventually i'll be making an Artorias Knight build, with pursurers and Abyss Greatsword plus the Artorias armour set. My question is, what should I do for weapons until i get the Abyss Greatsword, currently at Anor Londor and i'm using a Zweihander +10, not sure if I should take it to +15 or an elemental type weapon?

Also, any other weapon suggestions are appreciated.

Take it to +15, elemental weapons has to go though 2 defences not to mention it removes str/dex scaling making it much weaker.

I answered it three posts above yours. You can access the DLC anytime as long as you have the Lordvessel. I bought the DLC when I had 1 Lord left to kill and the golem was there.

Can't wait to get started on this.

Out of interest, who exactly designs the armour in the Souls games? Much as I'd dislike it, Bethesda should try snapping them up

minor correction: its four boss fights
sanctuary guardian, artorias, manus, kalameet

Had to rebuy it for the pc two days ago :D So nice. Full of hackers though apparently. Got a shit ton of boss souls I shouldn't have (like 99 of them all basically). Broken game is now very broken.

How's that even happen unless you want it to? I've put about 6 hours into the PC version, and haven't gotten souls from hackers. Not that I want to, I'm asking because I want to avoid it.

Since I'm posting, question: I've only dumped some points into Str and Endurance. Should I pump up Vitality some? I started as a Knight class.

I made it up to the Capra demon but I can barely take a shielded hit from him when he goes two-handed. I've died to him like 7 times then finally looked up some vids on YouTube and I see that usually when people kill him they have much longer health and stamina bar than I do and are able to at least absorb a few glancing blows. His two-handed attack nearly wipes me out. So I'm thinking I need level up some or go do another area. Thoughts?

What I noticed when I played my PS3 PtD copy that they actually only changed the original PS3 version back to "You defeated". The PtD copy still shows the new message (victory achieved) :(

The very first summon I called for just outside the bonfire below the red dragon asked if I wanted "some items" and I said sure. I didn't know he'd drop more than a thousand items in total xD I haven't done much with it though, figuring I went into it to play it like normal even though it's my second copy.

You might want to put some into Vit yes, especially if things get too rough. It will be needlessly hard to only use str and end. I've never even heard of such a thing :) What kind of stats fo you have at the Capra? It's a notorious difficulty spike.

Devolve the Occult Club you found in Anar Londo to divine +5 and use it to kill the skeletons. The skeletons will no longer regenerate. After that Gravelord Nito is quite easy.

Is the Uchigatana that good? I've got it early in the game on a dex build but it doesn't seem like it's overpowering, even upgraded. What's so great about it?

my strategy for nito is just to load up on defense and poise. with at least 10 flasks you can just two hand a strong weapon and tank him. a couple of mosses doesnt hurt since he can cause toxic. if you are up close to him he has an aoe attack that kills the skeletons so you dont have to really worry about them. what is your build/level when you get to him?

There's also this:

When you finish the DLC and go back to where the original sanctuary guardian was, there will be TWO sanctuary guardians waiting for you. As regular enemies, I think.

Ughhh Sens Fortress looks like it will be a pain.....
You'll have to get used to dying there. A lot. You'll need to be VERY patient and very used to dying like crazy the first time through.

But keep at it, and eventually it becomes fairly straightforward.

There's sort of another one.
Not really a boss fight per se but you can kill the weapons craftsman too and it's not a super easy fight tbh.

Made it through with fairly little furstration, Anor Londo was more of a pain only because of the last bosses. I finally got past them by taking out the fat one first as his splash damage attacks were harder to avoid when in his ascended form.

One of my favorite bossfights of all time. Out of any game, the Soul's series is some of the best. Nothing quite tops my fights with Flamelurker from Demon's Souls though.

Rolled through Sen's Fortress!
Those poop-ass lightning throwing snakes couldn't get in the way of destiny (although I narrowly avoided death multiple times)!
Even had some dickhead try to invade me and I kicked his ass off a ledge, killing him.

Took out the big knight boss dude and made my way to the legendary Anor Londo.
Not gonna lie- I'm a bit scared.

Fought some of those giant knights, got a crystal halberd, and decided to make the long trek back to the blacksmith by Darkroot. My Drake Sword (now a +5) needs repairs and I figure I'll cheap it a bit and try grinding in the Valley of the Drakes.

Found out that the Snuggly exploit has been fixed. Wanted to get a bunch of Twinkling Titanite, but no luck there.

Don't want to go back to Anor Londo until I'm level 75 or more, I think.
Am I being too cautious?

Your level has little to do with it - just get a better weapon than the Drake Sword before going back. It's not terrible at +5 but you can still do better with an upgraded weapon. Drake Sword doesn't scale with your stats at all, so level 10 or level 75 it's going to do the same damage.

well, I have a Fire Great Scythe +2 and a Raw Uchigatana +1, but at this point neither do as much straight up damage as my Drake +5.

I'm a VIT/END/DEX Knight build and the Black Knight Sword is awfully temping to use, but I'm not strong enough to one-hand it yet.

I need a replacement for my black knight sword, the power is there but the speed or lack thereof is killing me.
I love it though, one drop on the giants in Anor Londo and its lights out for them.
Also did I messed up in making the fury sword? should I should have made the chaos blade instead?

Far, FAR too cautious. I have barely just hit lvl 70 and past Anor a long time ago. There is one bit that is going to piss you off (I know it did me) but past that I can't see too many issues if you fight sensibly

Baldur Side Sword is fantastic. You can farm it off the Baldur Knights at the top of Sen's Fortress.

Finally got around to playing this in its entirety on PS3 and despite the framerate hiccups I enjoyed it all 'round. Opted for pure melee dex build and mostly stuck to two-handing a Silver Knight Spear with a Balder Side Sword on backup. Swapped between Grass Crest, Silver Knight and Black Knight shield depending on the situation. Lemme just say I looove the Silver Knight Spear, that thing has crazy range and it's fun to prod people with it while two-handing it, came particularly handy on the last boss in NG+.

Speaking of NG+, when I was done playing to meticulously explore the environment it was awesome to be able to just skip Depths and Blighttown entirely with the master key shortcut.

What's a good weapon to make Divine for the Catacombs etc? I'm at str 50, dex 40 with a Zweihander normally and on the ps3 I usually upgraded a winged spear I think.

Dark Souls is one of the best game's I've played in my life, and it will probably be for a long time. I originally got it for 360 but it was barely unplayable when I got to Blighttown so I decided to wait for the PC-version.

And I waited. And it was so worth it. Not only could I actually play the game - it looked absolutely amazing. I know it isn't a technical masterpiece but with From's fantastic design it really shines when it's bumped up to 1080p with AA and SSAO.

I certainly hope the next Souls-game will launch on PC simultaneously.

I have i powerful rig (i5 3570k @4.2, Crossfire HD7850) but my fps would crawl to like 5 at that resolution.

If you farm the spear wielding Silver Knight in the room across the bonfire in Anor Londo's interior you can get a Silver Knight Spear which has holy damage on it by default.

The morningstar. It shatters the skeletons when you hit them for nice easy free kills.
