LTTP: Friday Night Lights. NO SPOILERS!

I watched Season 1 over the summer and really enjoyed it.

I watched the first episode of Season 2 and then stopped watching completely.

Is there anywhere I can read a quasi-detailed summary of Season 2 so I can just skip watching it and move on to Season 3? I'd honestly given up on the show after you know what happened.

Honestly, just sit through Season 2. It's pretty bad in comparison to other seasons, but at least it's at least relatively short and still very watchable. Plus, the majority of the holes they dig themselves in reach somewhat well paced logical conclusions.

Heck, regardless of some of the drama involved with the season in general, the scenes between Landry and his dad are pretty great. Saracen also has some great soul searching scenes too.

All in all, in my opinion, even "bad" FNL is worth sifting through to get to more of the gold.

Second half of S2 is really good though. Some of the best scenes around in there.

I have read that Season 5 has a new cast...but on the thumbnail on Netflix for the first episode, I saw that Luke and Vince were there...

So is it just Seracen that's gone? WE BETTER GET MORE RIGGINS :(

Saracen gets less screen time in S5, but he's there. It'll make sense in the context of the story and his growth.

Kyle Chandler's performance in this show is nasty good. I don't know what it is, but I love watching him. I think it's because he reminds me of a lot of people I grew up around.

I've only watched the show once but I always felt like he had a slightly different way about him in the very first episode.

There is nothing like that here. In fact the later seasons have little to no football at all.

It might not seem that way in the first few episodes but give it time.

There is plenty of that here, what are you talking about? Multiple characters on the show are football "heroes" and the show follows their struggles, etc etc. It's done exceptionally well, but it's still there.

In what way? I guess in ep 1 he seems almost afraid of the town, and unsure of himself. Though the biggest thing is that he has huge respect for Street, before the accident. I don't think he ever shows that kind of respect for another player.

Finished it last night.

:(

Texas forever!

Great ending for everyone except for fucking
LUKKKKE. The army?!?

Fuck that shit.

I loved it, though. It's weird, I liked it a lot for S1-3...but I didn't really start to love it until I came back after the year break and started season 4. Now I like it all more in hindsight.

Damnit.

Friday Night Lights is like The Wire in the way that it is fantastic television but never received the audience it deserved.

I think it has most to do with the way the show was marketed. Especially at first, it was advertised too much as a football show when the show was barely about football.

My mother actually loved it too.

Above all else, I think the acting in the show is unbelievable.

Everyone from the leads like Coach, to the secondary's like Buddy down to Grandma...you never think they're acting, it's so fucking believable.

Gonna go watch the movie soon.

I marathoned this show earlier this year. One of the greatest goddamned shows on television ever. I'm probably gonna watch it all again with football back.

"Where you at, baby! WHERE YOU AT!"

Bump

I started watching this show about 3 weeks ago. I'm not a football fan, and high school dramas are not my cup of tea, but this show blew me away.

The episode with Matt dealing with his Dad's death got to me.

I thought it was a fitting and realistic ending for him honestly

Just realised this morning how much Romney looks like an older Joe Mccoy

Did a little google, had no idea Romney stole FNL's "Clear Eyes. Full Hearts. Can't Lose" Link

Even though it's Texas, I think maybe quite a feel of the main characters wouldn't have voted for him.

So this streams free on Amazon Prime. Does the Amazon Instant version have the original TV broadcast soundtrack with Explosions in the Sky or are they removed like in the DVDs?

IIRC, Explosions is still on the DVDs. I could be wrong. Its other songs you might miss out on, not Explosions.

And I doubt the Amazon version is any different than the Netflix one.

I was told the DVDs have similar music and portions with the soundtrack removed entirely.

I really don't like when shit like that happens with TV programs, it undermines the intent from the showrunners and editors.

Finally got around to finishing Season 5 (and the series). I have to say, i like how it ended, but didn't enjoy Season 5 all that much. For some reason I didn't think Vince was likable as a character at all. Maybe it had to do with the actor playing him. You can also tell how they sort of had to rush to wrap everything up, which might be what led to
The McCoys, Lila Garrity and Jess' dad being completely gone storyline wise
. The ending was great though.

I have a question. Between season 1 and 2,
did Waverly kill herself or something? She is never seen or even mentioned even though her dad the deacon guy still played a bit of a role is Smash's story.

I grew to like Vince by the end of S4, and then love him by S5. When Coach gives him that hug after that rally....holy shit man love vibes.

Just written off I guess. Same thing happens with a S2.

Funny this thread popped up. I blasted through season 1 last week and thought it was great. I'm halfway through season 2 and having a tough time with it. Good to hear that it picks back up though.

Just watched the first two episodes and I am really liking it so far

Its really quite amazing that small town Texas can feel so foreign to me. It fascinates me that the town is so obsessed with Football and God.

Sorry for bumping this thread but I didn't think it was necessary to make a new thread since there have been numerous ones created in the past.

With that said, this show is FUCK AWESOME. Finally got around to watching it based on a friend's recommendation and that I can stream all the episodes on my kindle (amazon prime ^_^).

I'm halfway through season 1 and just finished the episode where
Matt's father comes home from Iraq. I think it's episode 11
. I'm excited to see where these characters end up by the end of season 1 and will Coach Taylor
stay at Dillon to coach or move on?
Ugh gotta watch more!

Though I think my new crush is Aimee Teegarden... My god my heart melts everytime she's on screen.

I can't remember if it's season 1 or 2, but did Julie put on the green dress yet? If that hasn't happen...prepare yourself.

Too bad Julie becomes the most boring part of the show in the last couple of seasons.

Yeah her wack sideplot in Season 5 drags down that season too. Otherwise it's a pretty damn enjoyable show. I love Coach Taylor and Tami. Best couple on TV possibly.

And Riggins goes from being one of the most enjoyable characters in seasons 1-3 to one of the most boring in seasons 4-5. They didn't know what to do with him.

In this age of anti-heroes all over TV, two real human beings and real heroes like the Taylors are a refreshing change.

I saw Zero Dark Thirty the other day, and heard Coach Taylor say "fuck". I don't think I've ever seen Kyle Chandler say fuck in a role. It seriously got me off guard lol.

Wayyy LTTP, but can anyone please tell me if this is still worth a watch for a non-American who isn't particularly interested in American sports? We sat down to watch it recently, I kinda enjoyed it, but my girlfriend said it was basically the OC with American Football thrown in.

I love the way it's shot, and I love coach Taylor's rousing speeches, but otherwise I'm kind of in agreeance with her... is it worth sticking with? Thanks!

Its basically in the top 5 tv shows ever. It's gobsmackingly amazing.

How far along are you?

because a.) The OC is a great show. b.) FNL is a much better show than The OC. and c.) the two shows are not alike aside from the high school setting.

Thanks both! Just a few episodes in, like I said there are definitely some enjoyable parts, but I do wonder if we're not the target demographic for a show like this (25+ year old non-Americans). I will try to get her to stick with it though! :)

You have an FNL alert on or something? Without fail I see you whenever one surfaces

Edit: Garaz, no insult intended, but what type of tv watcher is your gf? Is she the shallow type that just likes the hot guys and simple shows? I don't know how someone could say FNL is the OC with football. I just can't.

You absolutely are part of the target audience. Being American or liking football has nothing to do with the show. It's the characters and the drama that comes from it that's great. Football is just a vehicle, a setting for these people's lives.

Friday Night Lights is like The Wire in the way that it is fantastic television but never received the audience it deserved.

Those are my favourite two shows. They are grounded and has well rounded portrayals about normal people that you don't see on TV much. They also bring to life, with so much detail and vividness, places in America outside of NY or LA. FNL has a lot of flaws, but is very easy to love and there isn't anything quite like it. It definitely has the best marriage on TV.
