What is the collective GAF opinion on this classic series and movie? I just watched the movie yesterday and while it seemed like an extended (long extended) version of the TV show except with A list actors before they were A list. Robert Duval and Donald Sutherland ect.ect.

While I didn't find the movie particularly funny I still couldn't help but think it was a damn good movie. Same with the TV show. A bit corny at times and has never made me laugh out loud yet every time I see a rerun playing on TV I stop to watch it.

Why is this?

It's a quality show. I also don't really laugh at it much, or even get excited about it, but I'm always very drawn to it when it's on and finish watching it with a good feeling and interesting thoughts. It has a way of facing serious things without seeming like it's pushing an agenda, like it's somehow showing the reality but with a gentleness. Even when Hawkeye is very bluntly railing on someone concerning something important, it seems born of pure compassion. There is a humanity throughout the entire show that makes it so digestible and influential with it's themes.

Out of a selection of 5 channnels, this show rarely stops airing where i live...I swear i have seen every episode, but I can just keep watching them over and over again. I find it funny, but your right, it's not laugh out loud funny, but that could be attributed to the amount of times I have seen each episode.

In Junior High School (age 12-14), my local TV station shown episodes of this show at 9 pm and I watched it for those years. I've seen every episode and probably still remember most of them. Although the whole, "I'm a fuckwit but the best fucking surgeon in Korea" was pretty stupid.

You could split the show down the middle in how long it lasted and call it two different shows. The first half (1972-1978) was dramatically different from the second half (1978-1983).
