docs in the cloud uses your 5gb of icloud storage though, so dropbox is still the better option for me. i already have icloud mostly filled up with my ipad/iphone backups and other data. i hope apple expands icloud storage more as they add new features to it.

I upgraded my iCloud account to 15 GB, it’s only $20 a year.

i get that it's not too expensive, but i'm not going to pay for more icloud storage when i can store my documents in dropbox for free with more storage and file compatibility. i currently have 3gb of free storage in dropbox and less than that available for documents in icloud. it just doesn't make sense for me personally. i also don't have more than a couple gb of documents anyways, so the need to buy more storage isn't pressing.

I tried using imessage across my iPad and iPhone three months ago and my friends went apeshit on me complaining about our conversations getting split up into multiple message threads. It was such a pain in the ass.

This has truly, finally been rectified?

This is a problem for me also, having four iPhones and an iPad in the family all linked to my apple id for app purchases. If I forget to sign out on one of the other devices imessages go to that device as well. I think you can create a new apple id just for imessage but I'll probably just wait for iOS 6 which supposedly unifies your apple id and phone number.
Its not a necessity for me to have imessage on my mac as my phone is always close by anyhow.

Dude, you can log in with a different account into the AppStore. When setting up your iOS device, use the Apple ID you want to have associated with said device, then open the AppStore and log in with the account that has all the apps on it.

Done :>

Just bought this and I'm not really sure why, only bought Lion in January and it didn't really do anything for me. Is this a better update than Lion(the last one)?

Looking forward to the Safari improvement, I'm a Chrome user at the moment but it's starting to bug a bit and I fancy a change. Is it substantial?

Also like notification centre built in because I'm a Twitter user and I often prefer to Tweet on my phone because of the notifications. Will make tweeting on my MBP much more useful.

Hmm after installing this on my new mbp it doesn't reconnect to my wireless router after waking it up from sleep mode.

Anyone else with this problem?

Is the "Resume" feature any better?

I like full screen Safari, hate how it doesn't remember the setting upon exit...only way to force it is to turn on Resume.

I just got a second Mountain Lion code, even though I got one a few minutes after applying yesterday :p
I wonder if it's an OS X Server code... can you put in a code and check what it is without redeeming it?

Just send it to me :D

I don't see why you wouldn't be able to see what comes up after putting the code in before it redeems.

Still haven't received my rebate, over 24 hours since I entered.

And now I read that Apple has mistakenly sent out Mac OSX Server codes instead?

What the hell is happening at Apple?

Just had my first buggy experience with ML. Went to sleep by closing the lid, but wouldn't wake up, with the screen flashing intermittently. Looks like some sort of error with the loginwindow process according to Console. Hopefully we'll see the first bug fix patch soon.

That defeats the purpose entirely and is a pain. It sucks that apple splits up the iMessages between iPhone and iPad, it's confusing also

Defeats the point? Everyone in your family should have their own iCloud account so that they get their separate backups and iMessage/Facetime. Just have them log into your account for the iTunes store.

Currently assisting my sister in installing Mountain Lion on her 2009 MacBook Pro.. or was it aluminum unibody non-Pro MacBook? Or was it 2008? Whatever.

It's taking forever for it to download on her end. She's all the way across the country. So it's all over iMessage and phone. She's really excited to upgrade from Snow Leopard. So this is gonna be a huge jump. I hope her speed is bumped up. She's still on a HDD and says SL is so slow lately. I'm hoping an upgrade will remove the right files to fix her speed a bit. Can't wait until December for her to visit so I can do some tech support on her machine. Maybe fix it up a bit more.

Late 2008 Aluminium Macbook. SL is pretty damn quick, I think it was the best OS they have put out. ML is pretty speedy though.

Can't remember if she bought it in 2008 or 2009. But if it is the short-lived aluminum MacBook it's good to know she's had it forever. She is going to get a new machine at some point but for now we're hoping ML will make things a bit better. Still can't wait to see her in person again and do some tech support on it. I suggested she just get a 13" Air. It'll be faster than her current machine by far and so much lighter. I just hope she never uses her DVD drive.

I'm quite happy with the update so far. Very snappy feeling on this old 2012 11" Air. C2D still rocking! I need to tweak Notification Centre a bit though, it's kinda useless right now.

Combine new Safari with new GAF and the speed makes me happy.

I think you'll be happy. It's running really well for me on my 11". Safari is really fast and on Lion I had two issues I really never got rid off:
1. When I opened the lid it always took a few seconds before I could move the pointer.
2. When opening the lid I would have sometimes lost my WiFi connection and it would take a while before it connected again.

Both of these issues are gone in ML.

I had the same problems! This is wonderful news.

Another question:

My friend and I are having a problem with iMessage, which he has formulated as follows:

"I have two threads on my phone. One is your phone number which sends as iMessage and SMS and the other is just iMessage through your email. The second one is the only one that shows on my computer. I added your email to my contact but it didn't consolidate the threads"

Yes, only the E-Mail thread will sync to a Mac or iPad. This will change with iOS 6, where E-Mail and phone number can be merged.

I need to do a clean install, issue is I don't want iTunes coming back and biting me in the ass. I have almost a dozen different iDevice backups that I need to keep in my iTunes, as well as not experience any 'you're syncing to a new iTunes, imma wipe your shit now' issues. I'm not going to use carbon copier or whatever those apps are, as it would defeat the purpose of a clean install, but at the same time certain things like those iTunes files need to exist. Will this be an issue for me?

They must have changed something in how stuff like Core Animation makes the discrete graphics on MBPs switch. Reeder would always make the dedicated GPU on mine kick in on Lion, but it doesn't on Mountain Lion.

I'm certainly not complaining because it's only going to help the battery life.

We just don't understand why he's having a problem sending messages from his computer to mine--when he does this, I only receive his messages on my phone.

Is he sending them to your phone number? Tell him to close the conversation and start a new one that specifically sends to your email from his computer.

This'll be fixed with iOS 6, right? They're merging the two together so it no longer matters I hear? Please say yes!

I have a weird issue with Safari on GAF.

Whenever I click on the orb in front of a thread to jump to the first unread post, it always jumps up a few pages leaving me to scroll down to get to the first unread post. In chrome it used to jump exactly to the first unread post, down to the millimeter. I loved that.

Slightly off topic but so THAT'S how you find the last read post short of clicking on the thread and then clicking "see last read." ...I'm obviously new here.

Thank you! :)

24+ hours and still no code for ML, this is really a surprise coming from apple. Lions release was much better last year.

Yeah, it's been 26 hours for me. If it weren't for the fact that other people haven't received their code, I'd think that my request didn't go through.

Question, does the new Retina display Macbook Pro's come with Mountain Lion installed?

Like if I went to the store today, would it be on there?

About 31 hours here. You're right, if it weren't for everyone else, I'd think I did something wrong.

Save As…

When OS X 10.7 Lion was released, one of the biggest complaints from users was that the Save As command had vanished from apps updated for the new OS. In its stead was a Duplicate command. While you could use Duplicate to get to the same end point as Save As, doing so required several steps. Using Save As was simpler and (for most people) preferred.

Apple listened to these complaints: the Save As command is back in Mountain Lion. It’s a “hidden” option. To access it, go to an app’s File menu while holding down the Option key; the Duplicate command changes to Save As. Alternatively, you can hold down Option-Shift-Command-S.
Oh yes

Works fine for me as long as I don't close the full screen window before quitting the app. Not sure how you would implement it otherwise. I personally like that I can quit Safari, do something really intensive, and then go back to Safari exactly as I left it.

From reboot to reboot in 21 minutes, 46 seconds. SSD ftw.

Definitive answer: USB Overdrive works just fine in Mountain Lion.
Yeah, of all the things I've tried to fixed the crappy mouse accel curve in OSX, that one was probably the best, but still not good enough. I just wish that guy making Mouse Curves would finally release something, because he seems to have finally figured it out. I just don't get what's wrong with Apple on that front, Microsoft openly publishes the curve they're using for this, while Apple just keeps removing more and more from that API.

Been about 30 hours here. I contacted customer support for the App Store and they just told me that they are experiencing higher than normal volume, that they'd love to assist me in fixing the matter but they don't have access to the Up To Date system to see where my request for my code is at.

Haha, the only thing worse than the wait time is the fact that we all know how long it's been since we requested our codes.
