I assume the guy is set for life unless the divorce was really messy. It's not like she needs the house or whatever other property she would have bought while they were together. If not, sucks for him - time to go back to teaching science.

If this is in WA state, it’s community property. So whatever is jointly owned and not including stuff that is prior to marriage. This science teacher isn’t getting her wealth lol, only splitting whatever was gained during the course of their marriage.

Couldn't that be billions with what she has in stock? Would it apply to the gains or is it only stock that was purchased since they got married?

Eh, have you seen Jeff's girlfriend? I'd imagine being with someone when you have billions could be difficult, never know if they're with you for you or the money.

I gotta think there was a hell of a pre-nup. He'll be set for life but I can't imagine he is walking away with billions, or even more than very low double digit millions at best, maybe not even that if she has sharks for lawyers and he just signed whatever in the heat of passion.

True. Though hopefully he didn't burn any bridges as he returns to his (probably) mundane life. Wasn't he a teacher or something? Obviously he probably doesn't HAVE to work anymore, but what's he gonna do? Those two years had to have been NUTS compared to anything he'd experienced to that point, can't just go back to pizza and high school football games on a Friday night, can you?

I read a statistic once that almost 60% 2nd marriages and 75% of third marriages end in divorce. The failure rate for first marriages is actually relatively low at around 30%. So it's these failures who cant make their marriage work are the ones screwing up the curve and turning off people from marriage.

P.S Dont get married.

True. Me and one of my sisters are on our first marriages, both well past the "7 year itch" period, but my other sister is on her FOURTH, so between the three of us there are 6 marriages, right at that 50% divorce rate.

I always said I'd never marry, even with a girlfriend of 10 years but I'd told her at the start.

She dumped me, haha. Oh well. She didn't get shit. Things were to be shared not stolen in divorce. SOURCE: well us and my parents. Divorce is extremely messy. It's awful stress.

How can you trust any life partner when you’re that rich? It’ll always be in the back of your head that they are with you for the money. Its almost mandatory to find someone who is already about as rich as you (assuming you don’t give up relationships and stick to hookups).

Some places have commonlaw after 7 years cohabitation. Plus any kids in the mix and even break-ups get nasty.

Yup common law exists here. It's why you gotta be careful. It sucks but if you partner attacks you, they were always a cunt. Mine didn't and even had my house, I was lucky. (Was many factors, she was treated right and there was no bad feelings)

My Brother however got absolutely fucked with his. My heart went out to him.

Marriage for most girls is incredible important. So important they will ditch u for it no matter how long u been with them. It's basically there main goal of completing there dating life and starting a family with kids and if a guy doesn't want to marry they see him as a kid and broken.

I had this buddy he met his girlfriend when he was 17 years old, he was now 33 or something she was the same age. He always told me and my buddy's about how he would never marry as its a outdated concept fucks guys over etc etc. Sadly for him its not the guy that decides to marry its the girl at the end.

She really wanted to get married and basically at one point put like a time limit forwards as he didn't started to get the hint through the years, she basically told him if she wasn't engaged in that year ( 3 months left at that point ) she would search somebody else. He basically shrugged it off and laughed about it and even made jokes about it, he didn't do it because yea his ego.

Year passed, she left and went to her moms. Then he told me she did it once or twice before in there relationship when she got pissed she will come back after a couple of weeks. 2 months passed, he gets a message from his girlfriend that basically told him, she moved on from there relationship if he could remove her family and friends as contracts, got a new boyfriend was engaged and pregnant and that she was happy for him that he moved on that fast and hoped he would find the real love of his life.

Instant depression. All his friends from her side, and family he knew for years they where all basically gone at a blink of a eye. He had no clue what to do without her. Called up her mother and she basically told him its your own fault u got warned multiple times and she gave u A LOT of time far more then i would do and hang up.

It was pretty brutal to see.

Hard to say that didn't happen to me.

It's awful and should be avoided at all costs, I don't promote it by any means.

The goal should be resolution.

I hope the message gets across. I don't mean to preach, would be the the last thing i'd ever do.

Sucks for that guy but marriage IS a very important social contract. Even if saying "but baby, Imma gonna love you no matter what, don't need no paper to prove it" it DOES give a lot of legal power to the relationship that is quite important. Women need that legal stability (most of them anyway) even if you don't plan on kids. Plus that bio clock tick tick ticking down is a hard one to ignore. I got a bud, married for 10+ years but no plans for kids, still waiting to hear an "oops" story from his wife when dogs and cats can't fill that ache.

Only if she did something to purposefully make it community property. Like give him ownership over those accounts. Highly unlikely. She’s old money and he’s a science teacher lol. But basically I’m saying she knows how to manage her wealth

My brother is 40, never had plans to have kids, then started dating a girl his age last year after always dating much younger women.

He assumed she didn't want kids either because of her age and he was in the clear. Well, guess what? She wants to start IVF to try and have kids.
