Max is the best pilot ever if only because he was able to put on a full Zentradi uniform inside of a broom closet while piloting a VF-1A. Nothing else has ever come close.

So:

1. Max
2. Milia
3. Isamu
4. Basara

Isamu is above simply because of the shit he pulls in the YF-19. I mean that thing was a flying death machine. Unwieldy as hell. Basara may be a great pilot but I never saw him fly inches above the ground upside down just for fun.

Just watched the 5th episode, and I'm liking this pretty much. It's my first Macross show so the references to older shows are totally lost on me but it doesn't hinder this one at all.

Maybe at some later date I'll check out some of the older ones.

Max is the best because his damn offspring have been in involved in every show since. He is so good, even his nuts produced ace pilots.

Basara was a terrible pilot too, but a brilliant asshole.

Just finished ep 7 of Frontier. This is some good shit. The show has just enough perviness and who wouldn't want to perv on Sheryl Nome. If this was Delta I have the oddest feeling that we'd be perving on Ranka and yes I'm aware that she was in a bikini during Miss Macross but she wasn't getting Sailor Moon transformation sequences as she was getting a new outfit in real time.

Lol it does sound like he defied simple physics with that wardrobe change.

Was that Macross Quarter charge (and "Infinity #7") not the hypest shit ever?

Yes, yes it was. I loved when that Destroid transformed and then landed on the ship deck. And Ozma is great. He's like the best Roy Fokker that isn't Roy Fokker himself. Frontier has so many good call backs to the original series.

Ehhh Alto on the end of Frontier is also one damn powerul pilot though.^~^ Thats not counting the movie too where he transformed into other being lol.

You know...god damn it, I like the guy. Ugh. Ranka's going to be so pissed.

No spoilers but

max TV vf-1a are about 180-220 each

and the max and miria supers stacked are about 500-600 each right now.

i hope arcadia reprints max and miria soon....

Jesus christ. Never mind.

It'd be nice if the YF-21 would get a new Arcadia release. I felt like the arms and legs of the old Yamato one were a little too spindly in battroid mode, so perhaps a redesign would get the proportions better like with the new Arcadia YF-19.

So they really spent half of ep 8 chasing around some...thing with Cheryl's panties stuck to its head? Funny ep though. Who is this Dio Brando looking dude with the harmonica?

So, with Macross Delta airing now I decied to pick up some of the Macross 7 Blu-rays from a nearby rental shop and have been working on finishing that series.

I originally watched about half of it before dropping it for no particular reason.

I have to say that anyone saying that the stuff in Delta is way crazier than what happens in Macross 7 need to probably go back and watch the series!

That scene where Basara is able to repel Sivil with some sort of forcefield while standing around in his tank-top and singing with no special equipment just seems like a pretty clear precursor to the stuff we are seeing here.
Later, you basically have him and Mylene singing away a giant energy blast from a giant space beast as well.

One thing that I find interesting is that as crazy as the stuff Walkure is pulling off, it does just look like they are using Chiba Song Energy™ to power funnel-like devices and such.

Also, I actually think there is a lot more logic to what is going on than people are giving credit for. Outside of Mikumo who is probably some sort of special case, the other members of the group seem to be focusing on evacuation and crowd control.

When you think about it, that actually makes a lot of damn sense. The scariest part in disasters like we see playing out in these series is the human element. Humans panicking can sometimes cause more damage and causalities than the event which is causing them to panic.

Finished ep 11 of Frontier. Alto is not going to solve a single one of his problems by running away from them. And what's with Sheryl and Alto anyway? They clearly like each other. I get that Sheryl plays with him a bit but she's a lot more open with him than anyone else. Alto ain't going to admit shit though. I felt pretty bad for Ranka at the end too.

jaded, are you getting used to frontier? if you do, delta will be decent

At least as far as I've gotten in Delta, better music too.

are you caught up w/ all of delta? i thought the first episode was tough to swallow but watching up to the latest episode... it's getting at least a "decent" story. i'm curious about this
"children of protoculture"
as i was always curious about the origins within the Macross universe.

One thing I got to accept (and actually like) is that Alto considers he doesn't -have- to reciprocate their feelings toward him. In this regard he is fairly OCD but the only thing he wants to do is fly, and his dream is to do so in a limitless sky.
I don't see that as him being a "dick", tactless or "being gay" (all things I've read during the initial Frontier run on various forums), but simply him being true to his passion.
Anyways we know that in the end the real Frontier MVP wins anyway, aka Sheryl
.

About Delta, seen ep 1-4 so far and man... I honestly think it's terrible. Awful even.
I will continue watching till the end (it's still a Macross series after all), but what a let down (so far) after Frontier.

Frontiers music is awesome, you can tell they actually put some time and effort into the arrangements. Plus it's not there just to be there, it's usually there for proper plot reasons.

Why do people think he's a dick? I just think Alto can't sort out the mess that is his life. He doesn't have Shinji Ikari syndrome or anything.

Yoko Kanno is a genius, not only is the background music awesome, which it is. She basically created like two whole albums of vocals, one that's Jpop, and another that is more club like. That is pretty badass. Diamond Crevasse (don't know if you've heard it yet) is one of the top 5 Macross songs of all time.

As for Alto, I think part of it is that he just doesn't reciprocate much or take advice at all. He often comes off as an asshole as a result. He does care, but he has his own stuff to deal with, considering how important traditional culture is in the Macross universe, his identity issues make sense.

Nah still need to watch episode 5, but nothing I have seen has changed my opinion of the music. I do hope the story picks up, as it stands I don't hate Delta, and I don't love it. There is a lot of good there, so far though.

I have to say that anyone saying that the stuff in Delta is way crazier than what happens in Macross 7 need to probably go back and watch the series!

All the stuff you see in Mac 7 is anime as hell but it's not as crazy because a lot of it isn't supposed to be grounded at all like the two instances you're talking about. Even then though, some of the minutia actually makes total sense. Delta is sort of grounded so some of the decisions they make in regards to how they do things is absolutely bonkers. Basara only goes out to sing, he focuses only on that, and he's in a valkyrie himself while doing it. Where Walkure is flying around on the battlefield outside of the valks doing multiple things like singing and civilian protection yet they're a liability themselves in several of the eps where they get targeted and their drones end up running out of power requiring a recharge.

I mean yeah, in absolute terms, it's silly for singing to do that in Mac 7 but it's supposed to be nuts. There's still some sense surrounding that stuff though. I mean, one of the eps has a focus on the clash between the practical reality of the situation and Basara's own ideals. The overall conclusion of that made total sense as I recall too though it's been awhile.

That's Kanno? I thought she stopped doing Macross stuff after Plus. No wonder why that soundtrack is all kinds of fucking awesome. No wonder why her and Sharon Apple are the best idols. They got the best fucking music. I don't even hate Alto. I just want to see the dude pull a Loran Cehack, Sheryl wants the same thing.

I wish.

On the topic of Megaroad: anyone notice in the last episode when it showed first contact between humans and the Windermeres that the colony ship in the sky was a Megaroad class?

LD2uShph.jpg

If your thinking its the megaroad 01, its likely not. In the macrossworld mac delta thread, via the maps from the delta and frontier naration someone peiced together roughly whare m7, m frontier are circa 2067, and the two fleets that colonized ragna and Windemere respectively. So far its looking like its megaroad 06 that went to windemere.

Earlier type of colony ship, until they started building the City types.

Did you watch Flashback 2012? They show the first one taking off at end (Misa is the captain and Minmey and Hikaru are on board as well).

Why is Macross canon fuzzy as fuck? I thought this was just a music video from DYRL which isn't supposed to be canon, but now some parts of it are? And shit a Megaroadu is fucking huge, that thing dwarfs the SDF 1. Besides it's hard to pay attention while you're head bopping to that song, it's one of my favorite Macross tracks.

Pretty sure Flashback 2012 is canon. It's not just a music video. Via wiki:

...a 1987 collection of music videos from the The Super Dimension Fortress Macross animated television series (1982–1983) and the Macross: Do You Remember Love? theatrical film remake (1984). Released to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the series, it also contains several minutes of new footage that depicted story events that were initially planned but not animated for the endings of the television series (the launch of the Megaroad colonization ship captained by Misa Ichijyo) and the film (the final concert on Earth for Lynn Minmay)

Preliminary designs were created for these story events in the production of the earlier works, but Flash Back 2012 was the first time that these events were animated (The earlier preliminary designs were replaced with new designs by the original director/mechanical designer Shoji Kawamori, original character designer Haruhiko Mikimoto, and original mechanical designer Kazutaka Miyatake). The premise of the collection is a farewell concert by Lynn Minmay, who is leaving the Earth on its first long-distance colony vessel, Megaroad-01.

According to the "official" Macross chronology, the SDF-2 Megaroad-01 fleet vanished four years later while traveling near the center of the galaxy during the new expedition (in July 2016 A.D.) and was never heard from again. Lynn Minmay was among the missing.

Her real last name is Ichijyo...I'll keep saying Hayase...just easier to remember. Minmay can stay missing. I hope Hikaru and Misa were at least able to have a family on that ship...I miss those two.

Well to be fair her last name wasn't Ichijyo until she and Hikaru got married.
