DeathoftheEndless
Crashing this plane... with no survivors!
Please George. Cast Gibson & Bruce Spence as two of the major villains in a sequel. That would be a mindfuck of massive proportions!
Vernon Wells would be cool too as a new character.

So yeah, Max would probably get in line behind this one, too. But still - it's up there.
Either way, just going through and grabbing at the high rated ones (and this exercise proves why just looking at the big fat overall percentage doesn't even remotely start to tell you the story) Mad Max: Fury Road is up there with legitimate Oscar Bait of the last 5 years. It has higher scores than a LOT of Academy nominees right now.
I've discovered that it is apparently a cover of the Radiohead song Street Spirit by the group Superhuman, per their Facebook page here. Note that the original song sounds VASTLY different to the cover, and the cover isn't publicly available, though there's a chance Superhuman may post it on their Facebook page as it looks like they've done so with other tracks used in trailers.
I've realised saying something is overrated or underrated is useless, when we're talking about subjective things. I need to stop using such terms that to me come down to insecurity. Who cares if I liked a movie more than others or less than others? They liked it, I didn't, big deal. As long as I can argue my case well enough to convince someone to check it out or avoid, that's all I care for.Good lord the babadook is so overrated.

For those who watched it could you please suggest which is preferable for this movie - IMAX or Atmos? I really want the sound quality of Atmos but I am not sure if this movie is specifically designed with Atmos in mind in which case seeing it on a larger screen with an inferior sound may not be such a bad option.
Someone please ???

So, looking at the last five years, Mad Max: Fury Road appears to be the 4th most critically acclaimed wide-release film according to Rotten Tomatoes, behind Boyhood, A Separation, and The Social Network.
Of course, there's still probably about 100 some reviews that will come in afterwards that's going to bring that score down when the rest of the peanut gallery starts to turn in their reviews.
RT ratings can be deceptive in that EVERY review is distilled into either Yay or Nay and then the average is figured...99% rating simply means that almost all of the reviewers think the movie is worth watching. If they all rated it at 3 out of 5 (worth watching), the RT system would show this as a perfect 100%.
Won't stand for any BA

DOOOOOK DOOOOOK DOOOOOOOOK
hate in here timeaisis pls
Wont see it til tonight, but honestly...if the movie as legit great as its apparently is, no reason they shouldn't be in talk for the Oscars besides genre bias. If Raiders can get nominated, BELIEVE

When was the last time a films RT score has been discussed on GAF as much as this one has?
In my experience, IMAX is made weak with 3D (there's no 2D IMAX) so I'd rather not have to wear glasses or see extra motion blur and just appreciate the picture quality. If this film was being shown at 70mm or something that is advertised about having the best quality, then I'd rather jump on that than IMAX 3D.

That's why the average rating is important to consider along with the Tomatometer percent, which Bobby included in the post.

There is certainly a narrative that could be built around the movie that could carry it to significant Oscar buzz. The movie just needs to be successful first. Miller is a respected director and this is his big return in a lot of ways. The film has to do what Inception did (as a summer blockbuster) and be able to sustain enthusiasm through the rest of the year.
(there are a lot of aspects of being a movie fan that don't have much to do with just liking movies, anymore. I'm on some fantasy football shit right now.)
How in the world does one give a negative review for Toy Story 3 ? It's the best animated movie ever made.
Just got out of the finnish premiere. Movie is legit. There are now two great Mad Max movies. The shooting is completely different from modern action cinema, you have nods to the old Max movies with quick zooms, pans and footage that has been adjusted to run faster, and it all fucking works to create an apocalypse of brutal action!
This is how you do impactful action. This washes the taste of shit I still have in my mouth over AoU's limp action scenes. Bravo.
Thank you for the info
I have no option to see it in 2D unfortunately. There is a regular screen in Toronto that runs it in 2D but they have very bad sound quality and for a movie like this that has an amazing soundtrack I dont want to miss on the sound because of 2D. So my choices are
IMAX 3D
Ultra AVX with Atmos and 3D
D-Box with Atmos and 3D
I am confused as hell in deciding which among the three I should go for.
Probably Gravity. Not a fan of everyone talking about it, to be honest. It could have a fucking 0 and I'd still love it
I think it's because no one saw it coming
It's an uncommonly high rating, especially for the genre, so it makes there's an uncommonly high amount of discussion about that rating.
It's a Mad Max movie being released in 2015 without Mel Gibson, not filmed in Australia, that was in development hell for over a decade!
Are you going to a real IMAX screen? Seeing as you're in the GTA there is only three (Scotiabank Theater, Cineplex Cinemas Mississauga, Cineplex Cinemas Vaughan). Fury Road has no IMAX shot scenes but you still get a bigger screen than UltraAVX.
UltraAVX with Atmos will have great sound and I find the seats bigger, better recline, and more comfy than IMAX. Of course the screen is smaller than IMAX.
D-Box can be attached to an UltraAVX screen which means you get the perks of UltraAVX with Atmos but it will run you about $25. Depends on how much you enjoy D-Box seats. However D-Box can also be attached to regular screens which means they will be smaller than UltraAVX.
Thanks for the info! Yeah there are only three options for IMAX. I am not sure whether the D-Box here is attached to an UltraAVX screen or a regular screen. I think just to be on the safe side I will go for UltraAVX + Atmos combo. Decent screen hopefully and great sound. Seems less risky a proposition compared to IMAX and D-Box.
Which theater were you looking at for D-Box?
SilverCity Yorkdale. Closest theater to where I live. I was considering this theater for Ultra AVX as well. Have you been there? Based on your experience which theater would you suggest? I am not very familiar with the theaters here in Toronto and not sure which ones are considered the best.

Mad Max: Fury Road took 30 years to make.
From early reports, it seems like you'll be too amazed to move. This syndrome was also reported with the TLOR films and first viewings of Platoon/Apocalypse Now.
