Mad Men - Season 6 - Sundays on AMC

is it about mad men or top of the lake?

The teaser played a clip between Peggy and Don from S1, so methinks it will be almost entirely Mad Men.

Terry loves the show, and bookends pretty much every Mad Men season with Weiner and/or cast interviews. I think this will be her first interview with Moss, so it should be interesting.

nice! looking forward to it popping up on the podcast feed. terry gross is amazing.

I think every episode this season had a scene with Megan sallying up to Don, draping her arms around his neck, and sensually kissing him on the lips. It almost became parody.

Someone told me today that the "majority" of Mad Men staff of writers are women. Any truth to that?

Both writers are quick to point out that while gender biases still exist in the workplace, they don't exist in their workplace. In the "Mad Men" writers' room, a great idea is a great idea, they say, no matter who came up with it.

"We have a predominately female writing staff -- women from their early 20s to their 50s -- and plenty of female department heads and directors," Jacquemetton says. "[Show creator] Matt Weiner and [executive producer] Scott Hornbacher hire people they believe in, based on their talent and their experience. 'Can you capture this world? Can you bring great storytelling?'"

This was as of season three, dunno what it's like now.

on that subject, I wonder how much writer turnover there is on Mad Men?

given how it was just drowning in the Emmys for the first four seasons, I have to imagine some of the writers were getting offers from other networks/shows. the show's remained pretty consistent tonally over the course of the six seasons so, either way, they've done an impressive job either keeping their talent or replacing them.

Quite a lot. But it wasn't because a lot of them were leaving; it's because Matthew Weiner was firing them.

I'd say he succeeded.

I just caught up and watched the season finale, so I don't know if anyone has brought this up but:

Is Pete and Trudy's daughter retarded?

If so, I don't ever remember this being brought up, but earlier in the season someone asked him about how he wouldn't see his daughter if he moves to Detroit and he said "She won't know the difference," and then in the finale when he's saying goodbye to her, she looks semi-awake and blinking and moving her mouth, but not reacting. Unfortunately, a google search of "pete campbell retarded" yields about as many useful results as one would expect.

lol, but I assume it's because she's an infant.

That's what I thought at first but according to Wikipedia:

Tamsin "Tammy" Vogel Campbell is the first-born daughter of Pete and Trudy, born after a long and difficult labor (that took over two days). She is named a feminine variation of Thomas, her maternal grandfather's name, quite possibly in an attempt to assuage the thorny relationship between Pete and his in-laws. Tammy is born sometime between September 7 and 10, 1965, right after Labor Day weekend.

I don't even remember the long labor thing, but that just strengthens my theory. Also, 4 years old is old enough to know your parents... right?

I always assumed she was just a baby, but yeah that's plausible. Any other show I wouldn't give it a second thought but Weiner might be sly enough to set that up.

bitch I'm taking calls.
Pete was literally never home. He was gone in the morning when she woke up, at the office during the day and on the train when she was put to bed. After a while of that he didn't even come home at all during the week thanks to his apartment. Not to mention only seeing Tammy on the weekends after Trudy booted him out.

The child is just very young and likely isn't attached to Pete much. Occam's razor seems prudent rather than jumping to the conclusion that she is retarded based on conjecture.

I'm surprised MM didn't get a single writing nomination. The series dominated the category in the past (up to 4 out of 5 nominations during season 2!) and even last year (which I'd consider the weakest yet) got 3 noms. This year, nothing.

This is OT for season 6 but i didn't want to make a LTTP thread but jesus christ is this show good. I tried watching it years ago and just found season 1 to boring and slow and uninteresting and maybe it's because it was a difficult time in my life and my head wasn't there but my aunt kept talking it up so i decided to give it another chance. So 3 days ago i started from season 1 and now i am on episode 3 season 3 and i can't stop watching it. I take back all negative things i have ever said about this show.

And Pete Campbell? I want to snap his neck. And i can't unsee Ken as Cole Phelps from L.A Noire, actually a lot of actors in this show were in L.A Noire

So yeah, I don't why but super LTTP I watched the last two eps from this season. Man some great stuff in there. Sally definitely growing up now. Great exchanges between Bob and Pete. Don putting Ted on the spot in that meeting about Peggy's commercial was outstanding. And then the season ended with quite a bang plus knocking in some sense to Sally. Can't wait for the next season.

I just finished Season 4. I love this show so very much.

Would any kind souls be willing to link me to articles covering the symbolism, allusions, foreshadowing, and etc. up through season 4? I did a quick google search but couldn't find anything that didn't go up through season 5. From what I've read this show is packed with symbolism and the like, and I feel like I've not picked up on a lot of it.

Only 13 episodes left for me on Netflix, and I'm assuming season 6 won't be added until mid-2014. Sigh!

Hmm... is the symbolism self-contained in the individual episodes then? I just imagined there being overarching elements that weave through the whole series, but I'm obviously not well-versed in it or else I wouldn't be asking :p

Thanks Cornballer, you're the man. GAF would be far worse off without your dedication in all of these television threads.

Some is, some isn't. A lot of it is costuming and color coordination, actually.
