I finally got to the finale. Here are some late, brief random thoughts:

- Oh Peggy. You had to know that wasn't going to end well. I can only laugh at you.

- As Trudy said, "Stay free, Pete."

- As Bob Benson demonstrated, "Stay free, Pete." (Seriously, Pete getting trounced never gets old.)

- I like Don, but he wrote his name in print and cursive on that boot. Enough is enough.

I really enjoyed this season and the wait to see what'll come up next shall be a difficult one. Additionally, Betty largely improved in my eyes this season. I was never positive that time would come, but there you go. I'm still not a fan, but she has definitely leveled up compared to past seasons (as a mother, as an ex-wife, etc.).

Just finished 604, where Don yells at Megan for doing on camera what he does almost every day behind her back.

His necessity to hold agency over the women in his lives knows no bounds, does it?

This was the first truly remarkable episode of the season. It sounds terrible, but I forget how entertaining and enjoyable the show is, outside of being a fantastic artistic product.

Finally watched the two final episodes (which I never caught when they aired because I was extremely busy with work). My god, this show really is incredible. To see Don air out his dirty laundry like that was breathtaking, and I'm really interested in seeing how things pan out in the final season after what happened at that meeting with the partners.

Excellent stuff as always, Mr. Weiner.

- TV Guide: Mad Men Creator Matthew Weiner on the End of the Show and Life After Don Draper
TV Guide Magazine: Where are you in the development of the final season of Mad Men?

Matthew Weiner: I am a month into it, and all I can tell you is that it will be a completely new story and it will wrap up the end of the show. I have my very ending, and I have the pathway on the way into it. All I can say is that it's related to the era that we're in, and that it will be the next chapter in Don's life. I know it sounds vague, but it really is. I always liked the fact that the show has, on some level, uniqueness that the consequences of people's actions are taken seriously. We never pretend like stuff doesn't happen, and that's really where we're starting. Like, can you do something that is irreparable?

- LA Times: 'Mad Men' final season, 14 episodes, to air in 2 parts in 2014, 2015
"Mad Men" fans will have a bit longer to say goodbye to Don Draper.

Following a trend set by "Breaking Bad," the seventh and final season of "Mad Men" will air in two, seven-episode halves, AMC announced Tuesday. The first half of the season, dubbed "The Beginning," will air in spring 2014. The second, "The End of an Era," will air in spring 2015.

"This approach has worked well for many programs across multiple networks, and, most recently for us with 'Breaking Bad,' which attracted nearly double the number of viewers to its second-half premiere than had watched any previous episode,” said AMC President Charlie Collier. “We are determined to bring 'Mad Men' a similar showcase."

Series creator and showrunner Matthew Weiner expressed enthusiasm about the storytelling potential of the two-part final season.

"We plan to take advantage of this chance to have a more elaborate story told in two parts, which can resonate a little bit longer in the minds of our audience,” he said. “The writers, cast and other artists welcome this unique manner of ending this unique experience.”

"Mad Men" debuted in 2007 and has since become one of television's most acclaimed programs, winning the Emmy for outstanding drama series four straight times. It is nominated for 12 prizes at this year's ceremony.
AMC doing their thing....

This likely includes a 2-hour finale. Mad Men's normally been 13 eps.

AMC and Showtime are both on the DO NOT TRUST list now.

Showtime is a significantly better network than AMC. Sure, they run their hits into the ground but many networks are guilty of doing that.

AMC hasn't launched a great show since Breaking Bad in winter '08. They are worthless once it and Mad Men end.

- Variety: Screenwriter Robert Towne Joins Writing Staff of ‘Mad Men’
Veteran screenwriter Robert Towne (pictured) is among Matthew Weiner’s new recruits to “Mad Men’s” writing staff for the upcoming seventh and final season, which AMC announced Monday will unfold in two seven-episode batches in spring 2014 and spring 2015.

Towne is serving as a consulting producer for the AMC/Lionsgate TV drama series. He won an original screenplay Oscar for 1974′s “Chinatown” (a source of many oft-quoted lines including: “Forget it, Jake. It’s Chinatown”). He earned three other Oscar screenwriting noms, for 1973′s “The Last Detail,” 1975′s “Shampoo” and 1984′s “Greystoke: the Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes.” Recent credits include “Mission: Impossible II,” “Without Limits” and “Days of Thunder.”

Another film vet, Patricia Resnick (“Nine to Five”), is also on board as a consulting producer. Comedy scribe David Iserson, an alum of “Saturday Night Live” and laffers including “New Girl” and “United States of Tara,” has signed on as a co-producer. And writers’ assistant Carly Wray has been upped to staff writer from writers assistant last season.

Exec producers for season seven, along with creator Matthew Weiner, are Scott Hornbacher and Janet Leahy.

So I'm like 3 or 4 eps in (first season). It's okay, but I was expecting it to be a little better. Tell me why I should keep watching, GAF.

Because each season gets progressively better (until S5) and more layered/complex. More than any other show I've watched, the S1 and season now counterparts of all the characters are so freaking different, but their evolutions couldn't have been more natural.

It's amazing to watch them grow, and you can only do that by sticking with it.
