Is anyone else rewatching episodes before the premiere on Sunday? I figure I'll at least rewatch the last two from S6.
I rewatched the entire season last week.

After what Ted did in the last episode, Don's "He's not that virtuous" is all the more relevant.

Poor Peggy. She spent the entire season as a chess piece in Don and Ted's petty rivalry :-(

People are going to hate the Mad Men finale. There will be no big finale. No death, or explosions. Maybe a firing, or someone leaving SC&P. Maybe I'm going to sound like an old man here, but it seems like the only way for a TV show to have relevance is to have big mysteries or big explosions. (Maybe it has always been like that) I don't see a show like Mad Men (one that is that big) coming around again. The closest show I can find is maybe Orange is the New Black or maybe Masters of Sex, but outside of critics I doubt anyone knows those shows even exist.

I mean hell, if a show dares to have a slow episode that's not pulling the main plot full throttle (BB's Fly, S4 Walking Deads, HoC's military academy episode) fans bitch and moan about "filler" episodes. What most TV viewers call "filler" episodes are probably 80% of MM episodes, and some of the best ones.

I watched The Doorway the other night, and I'll for sure watch the last one before Sunday night, maybe the last two.

A "slow burner" is a dying breed, IMO.
Yeah as always Andy is an interesting read. It really is kind of a last of its breed show that isn't offering big plot movements, climaxs, and resolutions.

I think most of the audience that's watching at this point knows the show they're watching though.

I rewatched the drug episode and the final episode.

The drug episode is flabbier and more spasmodic than I remembered it. There are some really great moments but overall it is a bit too stitched together and incoherent to actually call it a good episode.

The final episode is really interesting and caps off some nice Don character development through the season. The Hershey monologue is one of the programme's best scenes, but the childhood flashbacks have never been anything but terrible.

Don's dismissal-of-sorts definitely leaves his fate up in the air and I really hope they do not brush it aside like they did with Shut the Door, Have a Seat (them reconstructing the firm would have been a great thing to see). I think they were strongly indicating that Don was ahead of the game with his advertising ideas and I'd like to see his revenge. Pete, Peggy, Stan and Bob Benson are all in interesting positions too and I'm curious to see how they develop. I think we may see a different Pete, which could be interesting...

I'll need to watch the last episode again, I've been rewatching to get my parents into it and in the process I've forgotten where we're at now, only remember the last 10 seconds and Ted's decision.

After 6 seasons whoever may be expecting a crazy finale is a bit delusional imo. Be it slow and/or open-ended, I'm positive it will be satisfying for those who've been appreciating the show for what it is through these years.

I'm sure Man Men will stick the landing and people will love it. This is not a show that attracts the mainstream crowd like Sopranos/BB.

The Hershey speech really is the Ying to The Wheel speech's Yang. The one where Don is about as candid and honest and sincere as we've seen him goes over like a cinder block and pretty much costs him his job, while the speech where he's playing up to the facade of this ideal family life has the entire room in tears and lands the account immediately. Showing Don being vehemently against Megan setting up The Wheel to show slides of their vacation was a nice touch.

Yeah, I was re-watching the season 1 finale and that totally forgot about that got me, also the fantasy scene gut-punch at the end
where Don comes home to triumphantly announce he is coming with them followed by cheers from the kids, only to reveal that was just his fantasy
.

Nope. Just one hour.

Bummer, thanks.

Yeaah. I had forgotten about that too. It was probably for the best, though. Don has these moments of wanting to be the family man, but he would have just been miserable when he got there.

- Matt Zoller Seitz's review for NY Mag:
Even when the characters seem to be moving toward some unspecified axis leading to happiness, their progress is agonizingly slow, as if they’re walking in high wind. We’ve invested in them, and sometimes the dividends seem puny. But still we watch. At least, we masochists who don’t care about likability or happy endings watch. It’s not a self-help guide. But there is some value in Mad Men’s spectacle of misbehavior. The show has nothing to teach us. It’s just being honest about the truths people discover and then disregard, and the lies they tell themselves, as history moves around them. They’re doing the best they can.

I hope you're watching Rectify and just forgot to mention it.

Metacritic's season reviews are so terrible.

"Let's rate an entire season by the first episode we get, then rank the entire season by that way".

Okay, game plan.

Watched The Doorway the other night.

Watching "For Immediate Release" right now and plan on watching "The Crash", "The Better Half", "The Quality of Mercy", and "In Care Of".

Probably a bit ambitious.

Edit: Whoa, Pete says to Bob "Whatever your fake name is" at the whorehouse in "For Immediate Release". Didn't catch that before.

Edit 6: The Crash: That Stan and Peggy scene!

I can't see anyone having a "happy ending".

I expect most characters arcs will end with them still struggling with the issues they always struggled with.

All peggy and joan need to do to do to be happy is just get away from everybody they work with right now more so than any of the other Madmen characters that have a tendency to make themselves miserable (and by default those around them).

Peggy was doing great until the merger, and Joan's biggest problem is in spite of being the most resourceful person in the agency because she's beautiful nobody ever takes time to notice (besides Lane).

Re-watching for the 10th time right now ( not kidding ) and the ending song/music to every episode is just too perfect. Now that I have seen every episode countless times, they make so much sense. Obviously the season 5 and 6 finale had incredible songs, but there are countless other amazing ending scenes.

This is one of my favourites, ending of Commisons and Fees ( Season 5 episode 12)

Say what you want about Season 5 overall, but the ending scene ("You Only Live Twice") is definitely among the best of the entire show in my opinion.

YES

I said it before but I absolutely agree, I think season 5 was the weakest by far but the closing montage was incredible. I rewatched it at least a dozen of times, it's an amazing scene that ranks amongst the best for me.

Anyone who denies Stan being the best character is just a fool.

But what about Bob Bunson?

strange, I don't see Bob anywhere in that gif

This guy gets it.
