I really don't see what historical accuracy has to do with whether or not a show is good.
There is no way to look at the ridiculous outpouring of Emmys/critical love for Mad Men and not come away thinking that the show, while good, was wildly overrated.
Because a lot of the emmys are for costume design, set design, production, etc. I remember listening to the commentary for "The Suitcase" episode and hearing the attention to detail that went into lighting alone was remarkable. So as a production, this show deserves everything it got.
Story-wise, it dipped in season 2/3, but it all paid off in the end. It was great consistently.
