I'm thinking about making a copy deck since I'm getting so many blue rares that copy creatures...

What if your opponent is playing a deck with nothing worth copying? :)

Shut up that's what! I was thinking that actually, if I play an aggro deck or something that people by me have there is literally nothing worth copying. :P I don't know I'm still trying to think of a second deck to build, I want something interesting to play but still competitive. Everyone seems to play a certain kind a lot of times and would like something different.

Use some creatures that amplify in power the more of them you have on field. Rest of the cards be mirror spells and tutors :b

EDIT: Ok the only decent creature is Relentless Rats, and that's a different deck lol

Ya, I was thinking that it might not be totally bad since aggro decks have goblin chieftains I think it is that pumps up goblins so if I make a couple copies then my deck is sweet but if I don't I'm dead. Are there any blue cards that give others +1/+1 besides grand architect? Maybe if I just have enough drawing it will be ok...

What tutor is there besides diabolic?

I was using Magic Workstation, but am now going to be trying out Cockatrice
Link
It is free
It updates card sets easily from Oracle
You can play online
It is free

So just throwing this out here for others who may want to give it a shot.

Neogaf Magic Battles may be coming soon!

Nice, downloading now.

I've been using Magic Workstation for a while, but I'd love it if we formed some sort of GAF-league. Any thoughts on the format we'd use?

Started strong last night, destroyed my opponents in my first two matches.
Third match was against my good friend playing really expensive Caw Go.
First game I had him devastated even though I was land hosed, and got him down to maybe 15 cards in his deck and it was all land and useless cards but he had one Jace the Mind Sculptor in his hand that I did not get rid of and was able to fate seal me long enough to use his ultimate on me.
Second game I got him with proliferated infect tokens while keeping his deck in chaos.
Third game ended up being a draw.

Next game I played some new kid, smug little asshole.
Unfortunately I got land hosed badly and he screwed me more by hitting my twice with Goblin Guide before I noticed the effect where I get to look at my top card and if it is a land it goes in my hand. His response " too bad you missed the triggers".
I was like "Oh that is how it is , I see..."
Got land hosed again the next game giving my my first loss and also twice in my next match.

I have to say that there is NOTHING more irritating than holding all of the answers that you need and not being able to pull the land.
In both games I was sitting on so much creature hate that I should have had nothing to worry about.
Oh well, will fine tune and unleash 2.0 next week.

Actually, I don't think it's your job to hit the trigger. It's his goblin guide, and it's not a may ability. I believe you both would get a warning for failure to maintain game state.

So far this new program seems much easier and neater then my experience with MWS, but I also didn't give MWS much of a chance.

MWS crashed when I tried to update to MBS which is why I went looking for alternatives.
Looking forward to installing this tonight when I get home from work.

Went to a legacy tournament today. I brought along a cheapo metalcraft/affinity deck. I went 4-0, won the my first top 4 match, and then lost in the finals against a guy I had previously stomped earlier in the tournie. Got shitty draws my last game and he boarded in jittes to help counter my creatures. Still, going 5-1 with a deck I threw together at the last moment and was worth barely over 100 bucks (didn't use any ravagers, it was a completely original build) stomping through decks worth 500-800 bucks was very satisfying. Beat some rock decks, black agro, high tide, and tendrils.
One guy was visibly upset that I beat his very expensive jace backed deck with my cheapo deck. He bitched endlessly about it. Probably doesn't help that because it was my first legacy tournament, I was racking up tons of points for my DCI rating while all these guys who have been playing for years were taking massive hits on their rating by losing to me.

All my prize packs were garbage though :/

Cockatrice seems like a neat little program, save for the fact that I can save a deck, look at it in Explorer, but the program itself can't see them. It's not a bug really being fixed either, as others on the forum who have complained have been met with "Well, I don't know what you're doing wrong."

Nothing. I'm doing nothing wrong. Click save in deck editor, open cockatrice, click load deck and a screen pops up that shows an empty folder. Open explorer and the decks are visible. No drag or drop or anything, either.

Kinda frustrating. But whatever.

By the way, suffah, that Colossus became the bane of my existence. It came back to me (apparently stamps went up in price) and the card was bent to shit. So, I had to track down a store that sold the motherfucker, buy it, and sent it back out priority today. Sorry AGAIN for the wait.

Actually the Goblin Guide owner owns the triggers, and if he's willfully ignoring them for his own benefit I can see judges at a sanctioned event giving a Game Loss for that. It's one thing to forget-it's another thing entirely to not perform them because they would do you harm.

Packs for Legacy tournament prizes are the worst shit ever. At least with Standard / Draft there is a reason, but for Eternal formats the TO needs to do store credit / make an effort to stock some decent Eternal staples for the players. If my shop did packs as prize support I would be livid, because packs of product=only good for drafting.

Also, good run w/ affinity. I actually think the Tendrils matchup is pretty interesting, as ANT decks can't really take the beating for more than two turns if they are on the draw before they lose so much life that they have a hard time going off.

Yeah I was not happy. Especially since they were fucking scars packs. Oh well.

I was really surprised by my decks performance. It did fairly well during playtesting but I was not expecting to wreck so many of the established decks so badly. I basically ran 0 drops with mox opals and lotus petals and would put memnites, walkers, and ornithopters out first turn, and then use the mox opal or lotus petal to either drop a cranial plating turn one or if I had both mox and lotus, a tempered steel. It came out obscenely fast.

That would be fairly hard to prove I think.

unless there is a way to prove that the player missed the trigger intentionally (very unlikely), the remedy will be a missed trigger warning for the controller and failure to maintain game state for the other player.

The poster earlier mentioned that he said to him "too bad you missed the triggers". If he's an experienced player and knows that he owns them (this is not a complicated rules question). there's merit to a judge hitting him up for more than just missing triggers. But yeah, generally hard to prove.

Seems solid!

Good thing you didn't run into anyone playing Engineered Explosives!

Alright, I'm going to put some stuff about Cockatrice into the OP. I'd offer to host some kind of dedicated GAF server, except that my computers connection to the internet is... intermittent at best.

I would offer save for the fact that A) I don't know how, and B) I still can't get Cockatrice to work correctly. It's a shame. It looks awesome.

I did actually, and he got two of them off in a single game, once for 3 and another for 0. And I still managed to win that game! I had a mox opal and a memnite in my hand and some indestructible artifact lands out when he blew the second one and then I top decked a cranial platting the very next turn. I'm telling you it was bizarre as fuck.
I also sideboarded Phyrexian Revokers to help deal with engineered explosives specifically (and jace) since it was the once card that slowed me down in playtesting. Also had some ethersworn canonists to shut down combo decks and is what won my last game against tendrils.

Yeah my stupid goddamn cockatrice wont load all the cards, its missing a ton. I have downloaded the cards through oracle 4 times now and still the same thing. I search for certain cards and they just aren't there.

I've got the cards, but the program won't recognize the decks I build. According to Cockatrice, the files .cod files don't exist.

I just ordered a box of scars, I'm debating whether I should buy a box Besieged also, or something else... Or if I should even buy a second box. Are fetchlands that worthwhile to buy a box of zendikar just for that? There aren't really any other rares I want from it from what I can remember.

Like a booster box? Dayum. I almost did that yesterday, but ended up on a fat pack. I'm definitely going to wait to buy my first booster box until the new set comes out. Then I'm buying 2.

Ya, I've been trying to save up for booster boxes since they are so much cheaper. Fat pack of scars is $35 for 8 packs or for $93 I can get 36 packs. Difficult to try stop buying packs for a box though. :P Or maybe I'll ignore the packs and get some swords of feast and famine or something. Has anyone sold singles? Do you use ebay or just trade in at a store? Thinking of getting rid of Tezzs to buy more packs or something, not sure though.

I think I'm definitely done buying packs or boxes from anything out now. I pulled a Quicksilver Gargantuan from that fat pack, while the dude before me pulled 2 Tezzs. I just have shitty luck. As to getting rid of singles, I have a store nearby that does really well for trade ins.

That said, I'm surprised this thread isn't more a trading hub. We all seem to want different things from our sets.

For instance, anybody want to trade me a regular Nissa for my foil one? I hate foils...

I do one booster box of each set, but now I kind of enjoy doing foreign boxes.
Zendikar normal lands are even good, especially foils.
Fetch lands are great.
Sorin will be in M12 so he will still be useful a bit.
Bloodghast is fantastic. Vamp Nighthawk, Goblin Guide is like $7, Lotus Cobra is like 14 and will always stay over 10, summoning traps are good, Eldrazi Monument hits 9$ easy. Then there is the fetches

Ill trade something else for it, all i have is a japanese Nissa and she is my baby.

Protection from black means Royal Assassin's ability is useless, right?

Yessir

Agh, redownloaded cockatrice and it's still doing it. Worst part is that some of the cards missing are basic lands like islands. Aggravating. Trying one more thing to fix it.

I am trying to hold off on buying more packs till the last expansion comes out, there are a few cards I would like extras of (I am missing a blightsteel, I have pulled 4 freaking tezzes but no blightsteels) but I feel like I mostly have everything I need. I am really looking forward to M12 though, I love drafting the 'editions'. The cards are a bit more simplistic and therefor I feel like the drafting relies more on skill than being lucky and getting the right cards.

Yup.

702.14b - A permanent or player with protection can't be targeted by spells with the stated quality and can't be targeted by abilities from a source with the stated quality.
In this case the "stated quality" is being black.

I forgot to comment on this. A good clone deck can be very fun to play with. Make sure to get rite of replication. Even better though is a legacy clone deck that uses some of the older clone cards.
Spitting image, Vesuvian Doppelganger, minion reflector, and splash red for kiki jiki and heat shimmer. You could also throw in a mirror gallery and have fun cloning some of the eldrazi legends. Too expensive to run competitively but definitely would be a fun deck.
