@fludevil: Those dual lands are likely worth quite a bit. I'd at least look up the value of those. Also, I don't think the market is going anywhere. To put it in perspective, Black Lotus was $400 back in 2002, and has climbed steadily since. Things like Dual Lands or Power Nine will likely not lose their value.

Heh. The game (according to local shopkeeps) is in a bit of an upswing right now after sort of stagnating for a few years. It seems to be a sellers market, in other words.

Honestly (and I say this for 50 percent honest truth and 50 percent desire for some awesome old cards) the GAF Magic regulars have all been good in dealing with me, as I am a fairly new to returning to the game. You'd probably make more money selling them here than at a store that may only give you 50/75 percent of their value. They need the profit. Most of us are either players or collectors or both.

Definitely do your research to confirm which version of the duals you have. If you've got 10, you could be sitting on anywhere between $500 to thousands. The problem is that there are fakes around, and if you don't have any reputation it might be difficult getting biters on eBay or popular trade forums.

Didn't you just buy those Lion's Eye Diamonds, or was that someone else? You'll get a lot of interest for your swords and Stoneforges... best to get rid of them now while they're at their highest value - there's a chance Caw-blade no longer dominates in Standard, and they're rotating out in a few months anyway.

I know I will eventually quit standard as well - it's simply adds up to far too much. I'd like to eventually limit myself to drafts and pre-releases, but I don't know if I'll be able to resist the shiny new cards that have yet to be printed. I want to say Innistrad will be my last block (Garruk 2.0, baby) but it's hard to say without knowing what they'll come up with in the future.

In NPH news, the German name for Myr Superion is Ubermyr. No joke. These'll fetch a premium based on that alone.

Been working on getting some legacy decks. Really wish I would have just kept playing Magic instead of going to Yu-Gi-Oh for a couple years.

So far I've been working on Goblins and Merfolk. Got pretty lucky and was able to get a playset of FoW's from someone along with a bunch of other cards for $80. Got some Stifles, Counterbalances and other lesser blue staples along with a couple Orim's Chants, Aether Vials, and other non-land Legacy Staples. Really couldn't believe how lucky it was to fall into that.

For Type 2 I just about finished my Vampire deck. It's pretty amazing how much synergy they are able to get. And having Kalastria Highborn and a Bloodghast works pretty good. Only thing I'm trying to decide with the deck is if I really want to splash any other colors. Mono-Black seems to work fairly well.

Just me speculating, but based on Liliana 2.0 likely appearing in Innistrad, I'm certain we'll be getting a revamped Garruk in some form. I don't know if you've read the comics, but he was cursed by Liliana and hasn't quite been the same since. Whichever way they go, they need to have the art done by Aleksi Briclot, Chippy, or Igor Kieryluk. Preferably Aleksi, but we'll see.

that being said, i am in a similar situation- i'd like to get into legacy, but most of my stuff is standard. i do have x4 foil DCI wasteland (the crown jewels of my collection), and an underground sea and two trops, but not much else really.

The creature will die, since it has less then 0 toughness, but it doesn't count as a "destroy" effect.

Those counters would drop it down to below 0 toughness which would kill it, but not technically destroy it. That's one way of dealing with indestructible creatures.

I'd love the flavour of a GB Garruk since it would fit with the storyline, but I never considered this. It would definitely be cool to get a GU or GW planeswalker, but I don't know how Wizards would construct the mythos behind it. GU Garruk would be pretty strange, but amusing... he strikes me as such a "HULK SMASH" walker.

One of the New Phyrexia event decks has been confirmed as being mono-white and equipment themed (the other is Greenfect). I think it's possible that we'll see at least one Stoneforge Mystic and one Puresteel Paladin in there - we got 2 Goblin Guides in one of the MBS event decks, and those were $10 apiece back then. Might be a relatively inexpensive way to get two (or more) very hot cards.

Edit: I actually wouldn't be all that surprised if she was reprinted in M12. Lotta good equipment cards out there for her to tutor.

My legacy experience with them has been mixed. On one hand, getting a straight two for one with the card is pretty hot-it greatly helps you recover from a mulligan or a Hymn. One the other hand, it's very slow and equipment is already pretty mana intensive. I've found that against the tribal matchups, where it should be insane, it only works against Goblins (most of the time) and Merfolk when they don't have an Aether Vial out. It's better post-board when you can bring in some additional removal for cheap interaction to buy time to set up the equipment.

I actually really like it in the Thopter Counterbalance builds, as it gets a combo piece (multiple Thopter Foundries are never bad, so you can play 3 anyway) and can also get things like Sword of Fire and Ice (and soon) Sword of War and Peace to help stabilize, speed up your glacial clock, or exert board control. That deck is already slow and has some extremely powerful anti-aggro hosers (Moat/Humility, Ensnaring Bridge) to buy the time to get the equipment going.

It's weird, I can work out awesome budget legacy decks for local play without tons of duals (2-3 + some shocklands is FINE for most decks), but what it really comes down to is the high price of the following cards:

Wasteland
Force of Will
Tarmogoyf

Very few cards on the reserve list really are damaging the format outside of the lands and LEDs. It's those three monsters that make people balk at playing the format.

We regret to report that the New Phyrexia spoilers posted prior to April 25 were done so without authorization of Wizards of the Coast, and that the sources of the leak have been discovered. We have received confessions from both Guillaume Matignon and Guillaume Wafo-Tapa describing what happened and apologizing for their actions. Two other players—Martial Moreau and David Gauthier—have also been identified as being involved.

As you all know, the "God Book" contains every card from an upcoming set, and this confidential material is trusted to very few people in order to keep the contents concealed until the proper time. As a writer for Lotus Noir Magazine, Matignon had access to the book in order to write about the upcoming release. He broke the trust of Lotus Noir and Wizards by sharing this information with his friends, and ultimately spoiling the set well in advance of its release.

"For the last few years, I have been writing articles for a French paper magazine. Thus I've been writing reviews for the newest Magic sets in there. Writers are provided with a 'Godbook' for reference on the new sets," said Matignon in a statement made to Wizards on April 28. "I received the New Phyrexia Godbook, and decided to share it with my friend Guillaume Wafo-Tapa. I wanted his thoughts on this excellent set, to help me to write my article. However, he shouldn't have had access to that document. Not at all. The 'Godbook' has been leaked on the internet. I don't know exactly how. But it all comes from my mistake. I am responsible for that leak.

"Wow!" at the current prices for Forces of Will. I remember having over 3 binder pages of them, and selling them for $20 a piece when I was getting out of the game. I thought I made a killing back then. Never thought they'd reach the prices they have, now. I also sold a shitload of dual lands that have skyrocketed, since. I think the only thing I sold, that hasn't increased in value since then, were my 3 sets of Morphlings. Funny how the damage stack rules turned it into a super creature, then took his powers away, again.
