A lot of money in that set.
You'd be likely to at least come close to getting your money's worth back, and even if you fall short, you should get some cards that have nowhere to go but up. Booster boxes retail online for closer to $375 give or take a little.

Aight guys, I want to sell my cards. I got a bunch of rep in the b/s/t thread. Feel free to haggle with me. Also, I'd rather get rid of a bunch of this, so if you want a lot of stuff I'll discount it. All are m/nm unless noted. Prices are per card btw, haha.

3x Sword of Feast and Famine - $20
4x Lion's Eye Diamond - $40
2x Scalding Tarn - $11
1x Scalding Tarn (slight bend) - $8
4x Arid Mesa - $9
4x Marsh Flats - $8
1x Bloodstained Mire - $15
4x Sensei's Diving Top - $13
4x Lotus Petal - $2.50
4x Infernal Tutor - $2
1x Hero of Oxid Ridge - $5
3x Goblin Guide - $5
4x Kalastria Highborn - $4
4x Bloodghast - $5

400 for the lot!?

I'm definitely interested in the sword of feast and famine.

I have never played Magic, yet I have known how to play for a long time. This week, my LAN center is going to add card games into the mix (Yu-Gi-Oh and Magic) so I decided it was time to learn the game. It has already taken over. Can't wait to get up tomorrow and get a few more boosters. Looking through the packs, I had absolutely NO idea what was good or not. Come to find out, these 3 Sword of Feast and Famine cards I got were pretty good :D

Besides that, I am going to be doing Friday Night Magic and I want to do something else now, because I want to play. What is popular with the scene now? I plan on doing booster draft tournaments for FNM, what are the typical prize pools etc? It's $15 to enter, everyone gets 3 packs and promo's with the winner getting like 12 packs, or something like that I hear. On Sunday, constructed is what I wanted to run for straight up cash prizes.

I like booster drafts a lot because you get a good idea of how to build a decent deck and a feel of the block's mechanics. Your store's booster draft format sounds about right; I think $15 is a bit on the higher end but it's not ridiculous. If the winner's getting 12 packs, the attendance at your place is probably pretty good.

Constructed is prohibitive to new players because the staple cards tend to be pricey. Expect to get blown away until you can put together a deck worth a couple hundred dollars.

Constructed should hopefully be more manageable when Innistrad rotates in. Jace will be gone, as will Eldrazi-ramp.

I was putting that out as the manager of the shop lol. I'm basically asking if that sounds good since I don't know much about the format. $15 is a bit high? That is what I've seen at one or two places here in Houston. What would be better?

15 is fairly standard

Awesome, I might drop by during the weekend. You and Heroes are both around the same drive for me from my apartment, so I guess it just boils down to which store has the better service. :D

EDIT: You wouldn't happen to be talking about Monsters Arcade?

Oh woops, didn't know! $15 isn't high if the prize is bigger, and 12 packs to the winner definitely is a nice haul. I pay $12 at my LGS and other stores also offer $12 drafts but the prizes are either store credit or not as many packs (3/2/1 for 1st/2nd/3rd at my place). So I think you're golden.

After seeing everyone crack some crazy stuff in Fat Packs...I finally bought my own (I wanted the box for storage).

And I cracked a foil Tezz! I can't believe it. :)

Haha thats awesome. On a related note i just recently got back into magic by buying a Knights vs Dragons set and after effectively getting hooked again i decided i wanted to get a deckbuilders box. So i open up all my cards and on my last booster pack what does the last card happen to be? nonfoil Tezzeret. Pretty excited to be back!

Tezz-crackers unite!

Word! I got my first one, plus a Gideon from my awesome store.

...what the hell is the big deal about Tezz anyway? I can't think of how to use him effectively.

ditto for me too im in the same boat. i plan on using him for trade fodder to try and jump start my collection.

Goodness Worldwake boxes are not cheap. I want to get a few for my store but the distributor is out, and they are going for like 230+ on ebay.

Well, just have an Inkmoth Nexus turn into a flying infect-creature, then have Tezz turn that into an 5/5 infect flying creature. That is the basic combo in some decks.

Ah. That makes sense. Pretty decent card when you put it that way.

Wow, that's pretty awesome. I might have to make that deck. I lost my 4th inkmoth nexus though, I'm really hoping I screwed up and put it in my war league box down at the shop.

Yeah, Worldwake is home to uber-Jace, the most expensive card in a loooong time. People buy it up in massive amounts in hopes of opening one.

He's down to 75 bucks a pop. Hope he keeps dropping

He will. 6 months from now when he isnt in Standard anymore it should be down to somewhat reasonable amounts (which is when I'll pick up the remaining 3 that I need).

I don't know about reasonable. :P But he should go down some from rotating out of standard.

Wish I had enough of both to use for my basics. :( I have like half my deck as full art from zendikar but that's about it. I remember all the old ones I used to throw out because they were different. :lol

I kind of wished they had continued with that snow-covered business and made specific lands for each block. Would've been kind of cool.

New Phyrexia pre release tomorrow! Can't wait, I love playing sealed drafts.

I'm excited. I'm going to my store's FNM tomorrow night, then doing a midnight prerelease there, heading home and passing out, then going back for the normal 11 am prerelease, then maybe going to another one on Sunday in another town. Going to be a good weekend.

Still trying to decide whether to hit Saturday or Sunday.
Also trying to find someone with some Legend of the Five Rings cards to trade some Magic for.

What exactly does it mean in the M:TG world when we're talking about pre-release events? Like, if you sign up you get to buy the boxes early? Just play with the cards and give them back at the end?

Get 6-ish packs of the new set, build a sealed deck with it, and then play however many rounds. You keep it all at the end. Still cant buy standalone product until Release though.

Ah. Thanks for the clarification

Legend of the Five Rings is the best Trading Card Game, EVER.
And I say it while I am not currently playing it (I play Magic now), but I will never forget all the years of fun I had with it. Gonna miss that cavalry Lion / Corrupted Shugenja Lion / Monkey Clan era....

Store I go to has been doing 3 of the new set, 3 of the "base" set (scars in this case) instead of just 6 of the new. Better for building a competitive deck, but disappointing in that I'd like to use 6 packs worth of the new set.

It's by far my favorite tournament type though. I don't mind constructed but I always feel like I am a few hundred dollars worth of cards short of making it anywhere near the top 8 in anything but the smaller tournaments. Just a straight up booster draft doesn't work with my obsessive nature where I want to examine every card and contemplate 800 different ways I might use it before deciding if I want it.
Being able to just sit down and build a deck on my own speed and terms, knowing that while someone might get lucky and pull a great rare, we are all on far more even grounds and skill is far more a factor than "do I have all the cards I need to build the deck I read about on the internet".

Also, Wandering Wind, the other great aspect to pre-releases is that they hand on unique pre-release foil cards, usually with different art from the standard card. While they are usually worth a few dollars less than the standard version, they are great for collectors.

You should go if you can! Always fun to meet new people, play with the cards early, and get a promo or two.

I might. Guess there is a first time for everything. What do you bring? Just cash? Lands? How's this shit work?

So I am not exactly sure about the rules of this specific thread, but recently I gave up MTG a while back and now I am selling my cards that are worth anything. Is it kosher to sell them here or provide a Google Docs spreadsheet to what I have that people would be interested in or should I move that to the Buy/Sell/Trade thread?

FYI - Most of what I have is older stuff like Force of Will, as well as some Urza's stuff.
