Combine it with either Vampire Hexmage or Melira, Sylvok Outcast.

Perhaps. I may sleeve up a list and see how it plays, the deck sounds fun, and I've been wanting to run Tempered Steel for awhile.V_Arnold said:Haha
I am quite sure you would be wrong.
First of all, Etched Monstriocity is an 5/5 for five already. You can bring that out on turn 4 with palladium myr/mox opal. It gets affected by Tempered steel, you can defend it dynamically with the "target stuff gets protection of your color or artifacts" white spell, and most importantly: if you play with Mox Opals and a few mana-giver myrs, you can easily bring it to 10/10.
Not to mention Mycosinth, which allows you to search for any basic land twice if you can sac it by some very basic ways.
Or just use Hex Parasite. Awesome combo. Or any other counter removal.
I think there is potential in that card, in Standard.

Two of my friends ran her in THG sealed at the prerelease, and she completely shut down the opponents board the four games they managed to play her in.
A combo of melira, eteched monstrosity and phyrexian unlife NEEDS TO HAPPEN.The_Technomancer said:I really want to snag a copy of Melira, she seems like she could be built around.

Yeah, they were running R/W metalcraft and something with green in it (I can't recall)Zaraki_Kenpachi said:Did they play non-infect decks? Also, are temporary minus abilities technically done as counters? Like does grasp of darkness do counters since it's until end of turn?
Fuck your luck! Drafting tonight. I've had friends pull Mindsculptors and foil Vengevines. I haven't pulled anything more than $12 which were the Zen fetches. Hope I get a Karn or at least some Mental Missteps that I can use.traveler said:Sold the Sword of War and Peace I got Friday at the store today for $25 in credit, used $12 of it to draft, won the draft and my credit back while pulling a Phyrexian Obliterator during the draft. Profit! Now to offload the Obliterator before his price drops as people realize he's not the finisher they want him to be.

Everyone else was running infectZaraki_Kenpachi said:What did she do in those games? I can't see much use for her except sideboard material against an infect deck.

siddx said:So 12 of the top 16 decks at the Orlando Legacy Open ran mental misstep in the main deck. I remember telling some friends it would be a legacy staple and be in almost every legacy deck and they didn't believe me. I'll be holding on to that foil mental misstep for a long time.
Akim said:You guys should check out my trade thread. I need some stuff. (FoW, Mutavault, Jitte, Merfolk Stuff)
Depends on the deck, I would never run mental misstep as a main card but I would definitely use it as sideboard material. The one kid I know has an infect livewire lash deck that he uses a ton of one drop pump spells that would make it where you would have to run 4 mental missteps.traveler said:If you're talking standard, I wouldn't worry about it. There aren't enough important targets to make it worth running so you shouldn't have to play around it, much less build around it.

V_Arnold said:Oh, I can definitely see it as an anti-infect card. Lot of infect decks rely on that 1 green elf, or the vector asp, or the Tainted Strike, or the +x/+x stuff for 1. Paying life against infect IS free, after all.
noquarter said:Do you mind me asking what you are building? Just curious since you have your Sovs for trade, or are you running Lords of Atlantis instead? And if I finally pull a FoW from this shop around here I'll have a played FoW for trade ($9 a pack, so only buy a couple a month)
Akim said:I just had the most INSANE draft ever.
1st pack: Obliterator
2nd pack: Chancellor of the Dross
3rd pack: Karn
Also drafted: Mental Misstep, Despise, Surgical Extraction (what?)
went 4-0
prize packs:
Sword of War and Peace
Foil Elesh Norn
Mental Misstep
Puresteel Paladin
Dismember.
Yeah.....I'm happy.
traveler said:Sick draft. Did you actually have the depth to run Obliterator? (Although I suppose it's not even bad as a 7 drop in a non mono black deck)
Back to the subject of Legacy, since I now have 4 stoneforge mystics out of nowhere thanks to the event decks, I think I will actually try to go ahead and build some form of D&T. Even if it's not optimal, the playstyle just suits me. What would be the most optimal way to tune it for the current meta? It seems like the multicolor variants are far more popular at the moment, but mono white D&T was the one that appealed to me the most and it seems like it has a good matchup against merfolk, which is widely expected to be the most popular deck at GProvidence. Of course, mono-color does lean a little heavier on the land disruption, which tends to be the most expensive part of the deck. (However the splashes use OG duals, so there's really no escaping heavy cost there no matter what.)
An-Det said:For monocolored, a build like this seems fantastic.
For the event decks, did you find them at your lgs? I cant find much info on their availability, and I really need the SFM's (I've only 1).
traveler said:I was just reading Finn's report. I've been keeping up with his threads on Salv and theSource and it seems like, with his very recent high placing against the Merfolk heavy meta, this might actually be a decent time to bring the deck back to the forefront. I'll work towards building that list. Will have to run some budget choices for a bit, but I think that was a given. How would Mirran Crusader fare as a substitute for the Avengers until I get them? They have some evasion, beat harder, carry swords better, but are harder to vial in and definitely aren't quite as evasive as a flyer. Also, how does the mono white variant deal with fast combo decks like High Tide and ANT? Seems like they would be able to go off much quicker than you could get your swords online and the only obvious hoser I can see is the Canonist.
You might be able to find event decks at your LGS when they launch on June 10 or even at a Target or the like. They aren't supposed to be limited, although the list for this deck might have the same result Jitte did in its precon. I bought mine at MinatureMarket, a store I'd used in the past for board games, literally within minutes of the lists being announced. They had 22 in stock when I finished my order and were out of stock less than an hour later. (They were selling them at $17 a pop, so that might have had something to do with it.)
traveler said:2 Stoneforge Mystics a piece in the New Phyrexia event decks. Grab em while you can/sell your Mystics while you can. Already sold out at a few spots and its not even 30 minutes past the reveal. Just bought two of the event decks myself for them.
