I'm still waiting for them to do another cool enemy color pair. Like UR Chandra or something.Rokam said:They could make him go RG and have him pump out werewolf tokens.

Uh...that vamp deck is looking hot. I might pick one up.An-Det said:Has anyone else seen the Vampire event deck? It's kinda awesome. And the illusions one doesnt seem bad either.
Vampire Onslaught
23 Swamp
1 Verdant Catacombs
24 lands
2 Bloodghast
4 Bloodthrone Vampire
4 Gatekeeper of Malakir
1 Kalastria Highborn
4 Pawn of Ulamog
1 Vampire Hexmage
4 Vampire Lacerator
2 Vampire Nighthawk
3 Vampire Outcasts
4 Viscera Seer
29 creatures
2 Blade of the Bloodchief
4 Dismember
1 Mimic Vat
7 other spells
Sideboard
4 Distress
2 Go for the Throat
4 Skinrender
3 Vampire Hexmage
2 Vampire Nighthawk
15 sideboard cards
That's an amazing decklist. A shame so much of it rotates out in like a month, but still, staple uncommons, a fetch, and two bloodghasts... these decks just seem to get better and better.An-Det said:Has anyone else seen the Vampire event deck? Nighthawk's a pretty great uncommon, too.Fragamemnon said:Bloodghast will be a $3 rare for a good long time. Remember, the older the format, the more ways to abuse graveyard interactions.
Gatekeeper will be a $1 uncommon also for a long time. He's one of the best mono-black cards out there, right up there with Hymn to Tourach.
I am so hoping for enemy duals. Can't wait to build GB decks. Too bad that I just traded away my extra glissa's might take up your advise and get a playset.Takuan said:DAT GB GARRUK HNNNNNNNNG
Speculation: GB Garruk = enemy duals = Glissa jumps from $2 mythic to $10 ROCK DECK STAPLE. Snatch up your playset(s) now, while they're dirt cheap.
There's no way in hell he'll be RG. This version of Garruk has been cursed by Liliana; there's another art featuring him without his mask with the zombie look, purple veins and all. GB total. He's going to look wicked sick in a gold border.
In other news, I picked up some WoW tcg decks and cards. Fun little distraction from Magic.

They only thing I can think of that's malicious is the using of phyrexian mana.The_Technomancer said:Not a whole lot. Mindslaver had to have a "no mana burn" clause when that was still relevant, but its not anymore.
Start on some EDH. I had a Spelltithe Enforcer (when an opponent plays a spell they pay an extra 1 or sacrifice a permanent) out and Rhystic Study (when an opponent plays a spell they pay an extra 1 or you draw a card) and took over someone's turn and you would be surprised how effective that was. Just played every small spell in his hand and got rid of the stuff that bothered me.ultron87 said:So I bought some more M12 boosters and got a Sorin. Are there any horribly malicious things you can do while controlling someone's turn that isn't immediately apparent?
What is this? One of my best friends is an avid Magic player and huge anime fan, I'm sure he'd love one of these. Is this just a Japanese version of Jace vs. Chandra?The_Technomancer said:Damn, some really good deals at GenCon this year. I've got my eye on snagging one of these:

The_Technomancer said:Aww yeah, snagged the Japanese JvC decks. I'm not even going to open them, I just want to have them. I just find it hilarious that Wizards felt the need to commission new anime art to sell in Japan.
Zaraki_Kenpachi said:Where do you guys look up what the top tournament decks are for standard?
siddx said:http://www.starcitygames.com/pages/decklists/
I'm leaning towards going to Boston. I have been working extra hours so I should have some extra money. I'll probably play goblins for standard and affinity for legacy. Nothing like watching some nerd rage out after his 1000 dollar deck gets stomped by a cheap affinity deck.

Fragamemnon said:Affinity isn't any good in Legacy as long as people are playing stuff like Ancient Grudge and other artifact hate to deal with Stoneforge Mystic control decks. The best budget decks for Legacy are Dredge and Burn, with Combo Elves right behind them. Those two decks are also the most loathed decks to play against by "Legacy players" so if you take a match off them you will really be put on tilt.
Ichorid/Dredge is actually an extremely high-skill deck and a good pilot with format knowledge for Cabal Therapies can mow through a field of unprepared opponents (and have pitched games with prepared opponents, sometimes).
One or two artifacts isn't going to matter much when you're swinging in for lethal damage on turn three or four.
Fragamemnon said:It actually makes all the difference in the world when it's combined with the standard removal suites that Legacy decks pack. The splash damage alone from the sideboard hate for Batterskull makes Affinity a tough sell right now. It's like playing Dredge in the end of the Mystical Tutor days when Reanimator was doing so well, it's not like your deck is bad but everyone had six pieces of gravehate and it was an uphill slog every single match.
If Mystic ever gets less popular as a card advantage and wincon play for midrange and control decks, then maybe Affinity can get some breathing room. I think it's in a real tough spot right now and, despite its cheap cost, feel that the cash you'd dump into the deck would be better spent on something else.
Honestly,if you are just looking to play in one tournament, ask around and see if you can borrow a deck from someone who isn't going to the event. Legacy players are pretty friendly folk.
Edit: I played Aggro Loam in a tourney today. I'm pretty sure Life from the Loam is right up there with Stifle as my favorite cards in the format.

For older cards, and questions in general, it's best to look at the Gatherer text for updated ability text and other errata.OnPoint said:Question about this one:

Do you pay the life after the spell resolves?
Which means that the life is paid when you play the spell, not when it resolves. As an additional cost to cast Fire Covenant, pay X life.
Fire Covenant deals X damage divided as you choose among any number of target creatures.

In this case, the updated ability text states:
Which means that the life is paid when you play the spell, not when it resolves.
