How many Misty Rainforests are their in Egypt

Ancient Egypt was forested.

In ancient ages, Egypt was considered as one of the forest zones, due to the dense tree-cover extended over most of the lands. The production of the said trees was sufficient for pottery industry, plus other small mining industries that prevailed in these times, particularly during the period of the Nile flood on both banks of the river.

There are many justifications supporting this idea, mainly the excavations and the monuments found in Assiut governorate, Saqqara Necropolis and Tel AI-Amarna In Upper Egypt.

Also Sinai peninsula was very rich in its forest cover, and this is justified by the numerous names given to the dry valleys scattered on this desert.

Moreover, the historic records refer to the existence of a developed system for forest management in ancient Egypt, established during the 11th century A.D. to include the governorates of Beni-Swelf, Menya, Suhag and Asswan at the said era, where total area of the forest in the South of the valley exceeded 19 thousand feddans (8 Heetars).

Furtherinore, the said records refer to the fact that the highest rate of forest tree-cutting in Egypt took place during the Ayobeed Era (where more than 12,000 trees were cut down in a rather short time span, of which 9,500 In Qualiobeya governorate alone).

This proves that forest eradication was done by man and not due to the climatic or environmental changes.

And, since this is a made up magical world, why not just stick a mystical, long-lost Misty Rainforest in some long-forgotten corner of the plane.

If Vengeful Pharoah ends up having something to do with Bolas, I'm like very sure that's just a retcon and not something they had planned out.

I don't understand what the audience for the Commander Anthology is. People interested in Commander? That's what the normal Commander decks are for. Commander fans? They already bought the cards they wanted. People disappointed they missed the older decks? Well why not just reprint the commanders in other products?

And it's four decks at a price tag of 165 dollars, which comes across as ridiculous when Commander decks are individually 35 bucks.

What sucks even more is 2 of them are still on Walmart shelves. That being said, the kaalia one is one of them and it is $200 or something dumb.

I mean, the actual answer is that its implied fetish gear if that makes sense - take away the chain mail part and leave everything else there and she's wearing a stripper getup just like Liliana. You can't see it in that particular art piece but Chandra also wears stockings that go over the knee.

Do you think they ever do another Vintage Masters on MTGO?

It's possible. They need to distribute the Conspiracy 2 cards for Legacy play and we don't know how that will happen yet. It's either going to be Commander Cube 2 or another VMA set and I'd lean towards the former.

So a better quality Chandra pic and
The exhaust pipe leads to her armor which has no breathing room whatsoever, unless her tits are smoking?
Then there's another pipe leading from her vambrace to her vambrace for seemingly no purpose...
Really like the more embellished armor pieces otherwise, all around meh art for Chandra. The backdrop is lacking and looks out of place and the way her skirt moves implies heat beneath her yet the flames are more in line with a movement line that suggest she's been twirling which doesn't reflect in her stance which is firm to the ground.

Also, do we see the return of Gods in Egypt block or do you think they save tat for return to Theros?

100% see them. Now that they've established that local Gods are a thing Magic does, they're going to be the single biggest thing people look for in new top-down settings where they're appropriate. Egypt (and Viking World when we get there) is almost as renowned as Greece for its mythological deities, so you're not really gonna capture the feeling of a top-down Egypt without doing them.

Plus in this case they have something called the "Trial of the Five Gods," so having that and not actually printing any Gods would be an extra slap.

Also why Archenenemy and not a new Planechase? Bleh.

Because they're gonna want to do the full thing (four decks, 40 planes, brand-new cards) for that when they revisit it since it's more popular, and doing a smaller-scope Archenemy lets them have something to keep the schedule lighter this year. Then maybe in 2018 instead of Eternal Masters 2 they do a smaller fixed-contents reprint set and spend their big points on Planechase 3 or something.

Do you think they ever do another Vintage Masters on MTGO?

There are other ways they could get the CN2 stuff up but this honestly seems like the most logical way.

Chandra's whole look in general has been long overdue for a revised design similar to what they did with Liliana in the recent Innistrad block. The boob armor, and the non-sensical pipes attached to her don't even make sense for her character anymore. As a character she's by far the worst designed of the Gatewatch crew. Keep the chain mail the boots, and the googles, but they need to radically change the rest.

They need another Innistrad draft on MTGO, LotV just keeps going up. I have the complete Jund deck on MTGO except for Lili. I have the credit to get her, but I was hoping to save 20 or 40 bucks on the set of her.

Egyptian gods gonna make my commander play group go nuts

Legendary artifact creature - God as the type?

Would be a cool contrast to Theros enchantment theme.

I doubt we get 15 different ones though maybe the core 5 colors, unless they want to do a gold colored theme considering Nicol Bolas is grixis colored.

I am excited to see them I liked the Theros versions.

If the Gods are coming back, does that mean devotion will come back? Or are only the Theros gods losers that have to people believe in them to have power?

Rosewater's definitely implied in the past that Gods on other planes wouldn't have to work with the same mechanic as the Theros ones.

Given the description of Trials of the Five Gods, I assume there are only five gods on Amonkhet.

I mentioned before that my guess is that the gods will be enemy-colored, since Dragons of Tarkir had ally-colored dragons.

Yeah, I definitely like the whole American Gods thing with Theros. I would be surprised to not see Devotion come back.

Or at least something similar.

The gods were very popular, so I’m optimistic we’ll see more gods on other planes.

rkama asked: Personal opinion. I really liked the gods of Theros and would like to see them again. However, I do not want to see similar god like beings or the god subtype outside of of the plane of Theros. I feel it would take a lot of the unique identity of Theros away from that world.

But what if we went to another world where the players would expect gods?

Not doing things that were cool and popular just to keep them special is not ideal for a game that has to keep making six hundred plus new components a year.

INTRO
Welcome to the Multiverse! Multiple worlds exist side by side in different dimensions, known as planes, and they are as different as night and day. All of them, however, have a form of magical energy known as mana, which can be channeled into powerful spells. Residents of these planes are usually unaware of other worlds, but there are some special beings with the ability to safely travel between them, known as Planeswalkers.

Magic: the Gathering is a Trading Card Game, the first of its kind, developed by Richard Garfield and his playtesters for the gaming company Wizards of the Coast in 1993. The game quickly became a hit, and it is currently bigger than it has ever been. In the standard game, you and your opponent play the role of dueling Planeswalkers, using customized 60-card decks made up of your spells, the creatures you can summon, your mana bonds with lands, and even other Planeswalkers you can call in to help out. Whoever can get his or her opponent down from 20 to 0 life, wins.

In stark contrast to the dreary world of Innistrad, we're visiting Kaladesh, a bright and colorful steampunk plane inspired by India. We had previously seen it in Magic Origins, but this is the first time a set will focus solely on it.

As a change from the previous topics, this is starting before the Kaladesh set is officially unveiled at PAX West. In the past, these unveils were a week or so before the start of spoiler weeks, but this time it's immediately before. However, that means there is very little about the set we know for sure, so until Monday, this OP will be emptier than usual. It's also too early to made a witty thread title, but we'll get one soon enough.

PAX West will not just unveil Kaladesh, but it will also host to the Magic World Championship, where the top 24 Magic players of the world come together to compete in a variety of formats. This topic was made after Day 1, but feel free to discuss the other days of the event here.

The schedule is here, and all events will be streamed live. Abridged (and time zone fixed) schedule:
All times shown are Pacific Time, and all events (except one) will take place on the main stage at the Paramount Theatre.

GETTING STARTED
If you're a beginner, feel free to come in--that's why this is in OT, after all. Spoiler season is one of the most exciting times for a Magic player, and it would be great for more to join in. Us regulars can get a bit technical with card evaluations and use a lot of jargon, and many of us will loudly proclaim that a cool-looking card is junk, or say that a lame-looking card is really powerful, but feel free to ask us if you want an explanation.

To see what a game is like, check out Geek and Sundry's Spellslinger series, where Day[9] battles various geek celebrities, often losing, using simple and easy to follow decks.

To get started, check out the official page. Basically:
* It's recommended that new players play Magic Duels (thread). It's a great way to learn the game on your own, and it's free!
* After that point, the act of deck building can be intimidating, so it's recommended that you try out a preconstructed deck and customize it with other cards you get, before you start making your own from scratch.
* For your first deck, starting with Kaladesh, you can buy a Planeswalker Deck, These preconstructed decks come with four new cards unique to the decks, including a new Planeswalker card. If you have a friend to play with, there are also Duel Decks that provide two decks for a game right out of the box, but are a bit more complicated.
* To get your physical collection started, buy a Deck Builder's Toolkit, which includes not just a starting collection of cards (including a lot of lands), but also some booster packs and a good box to store cards in. You could also buy a Holiday Gift Box to get an even larger starting collection and better storage.
* To learn about the theories behind deckbuilding and gameplay, check out Level One.
* Once your skill advances, another popular way to play Magic casually is Commander. Each player chooses a legendary creature to act as commander and then chooses 99 additional cards, one of each card that isn't a basic land (of which you can have any number) and only of the colors of the commander, to make up the deck. In games, each player starts at 40 life and there are typically four or more players. Wizards provides prebuilt decks for this format too.
* While game stores will often hold Magic events at other times, every store that has Magic events will have Friday Night Magic. There, you will be able to find other players in your area to both have matches with and trade with. Find game stores here. And to get started participating in your local game store (LGS) scene, attend a prerelease!

PRERELEASE
While the set won't officially be sold until the release date, that isn't the first time you can get your hands on the new cards. Game stores hold prerelease events for every set, where every player is given a box with six booster packs and a random additional rare card. From this pool of cards, all of which you keep, each player builds a deck of 40 cards and participates in a Swiss-system tournament. This is a fun and casual event, where everyone is still trying to figure out the set, so don't worry about messing up. In addition to normal duels, there are also Two-Headed Giant events, where you pair up with another player and face off against another team.

Prerelease events will be held on September 24–25, 2016. Call your local game store a few days ahead of time to register, or they might just run out of room. Find local game stores here.

Lore introduction
Guide to Kaladesh
Overall history of Magic

Aether is the raw energy that exists between planes, and while it's present on many worlds, it is available in vast quantities on Kaladesh. The environment itself curves and flows in reaction to streams of the energy, forming delicate twisting patterns in everything. Some time ago, the genius inventor Avaati Vya discovered a way to process this aether into fuel that could run automatons and other mechanical devices, launching an age of innovation and progress.

Kaladesh is ruled by the Consulate, a nominally pure meritocracy, and it provides aether to all to promote invention and artistry. When we arrive there, the plane will be running the extravagant Inventors' Fair, where people from all over come together to pit their creations against each other, both in the judging booth and in the arena. However, during this time of apparent prosperity, there is a faction of renegades who feel that they have been left behind. They disagree with the strict rules and regulations the Consulate places on the people, and know the government isn't as benevolent as it presents itself.

As it so happened, the senior inspector of the fair is a Planeswalker, Dovin Baan. Hearing of the Gatewatch, he came to them to enlist their help to guard the fair from the renegades. His plea was rejected, on the grounds that they don't interfere in internal conflicts, but this got the attention of Chandra. Her parents were killed by the government of Kaladesh for helping the renegades, and Baan angered her enough that she decided to return to the plane after her long absence. Accompanied by Liliana, and followed by Baan and Nissa, Chandra could prove the tipping point for a full blown revolution.

CHARACTERS
Chandra Nalaar - Red - A chaotic human pyromancer Planeswalker who does what she wants, damn the consequences. Given that her parents were killed by them, she has no love for the Kaladesh government.
Dovin Baan - Blue - A member of Kaladesh's government, this cold and calculating vedalken Planeswalker can instantly determine the weaknesses of any machine, and he believes living things are no different.
Saheeli Rai - Blue/Red - A renowned human inventor Planeswalker who can skillfully manipulate metal into the lifelike animal shapes, which then do her bidding. Though fiercely competitive, she is kind to her friends and fans.
Liliana Vess - Black - A ruthless human necromancer Planeswalker who only looks out for herself. Despite her youthful appearance, she is hundreds of years old; she made a deal with four demons to stop aging. She later discovered a powerful artifact called the Chain Veil, and used it to start killing her demon creditors, but the Veil could be a worse master than even them.
Nissa Revane - Green - A spiritual elf druid Planeswalker. She used to be a racist elf supremacist, but Wizards of the Coast wants you to forget that. Her magic allows her to control plants, summon nature elementals, and channel mana.

Supporting:
Rashimi - Green - A friend of Saheeli who believes that the mystical Great Conduit guides everything, this elf inventor developed a way to teleport an inorganic object to another location, but this creation could lead to disaster.

CARD THEMES
Official card list (alternate, includes leaks)

So far, we know three major things about Kaladesh:
* Artifact theme, but in a different way than the Mirrodin sets.
* That said, a major mechanic is the "E mechanic", which was originally designed for Mirrodin.
* WE GOT DWARFS!!!

Yeah the timing of these should really shut the door on this already. Design and Development on a big set takes two years, with six months more after that before it sees print, so: that first one would've been when the set was still right in the midst of design, while that second one would've been a little while after the development handoff. Pretty clearly these are going to prove to be one of those winky-smileyface things he points back to as a hint when we talk about the Gods in Amonkhet six months from now.

True as someone said before she's really kind of wearing fetish gear or simply cosplaying.

So we won't have a separate 'mummy' creature type, they will be zombies instead. Makes sense I guess - just a shame that Innistrad and the Egyptian set will never be standard legal at the same time as there's obvious tribal cross overs there.

Well we're now at RoE so expect Innistrad flashback drafts in a month.

Also Drana is the dumbest bomb ever. I was playing U/W and I had literally no outs.

Going to be making the trip down to the SCG Open this weekend. 90% on BG Delirium even though I have access to Bant Company. The thought of playing bant is giving me flashbacks to GP Pittsburgh where I played GW mirrors for 8 rounds and was pretty miserable. Most likely going to be jamming 4 Deathmists and 3 Den Protectors with 4 Vessels and 2 Mindwracks just to see how it works.
