"Magnetica" Announced For DS

Nintendo has announced the development of Magnetica for the Nintendo DS.

Nintendo of America has officially announced the production of a new, original puzzle title slated for the Nintendo DS. Known as
>Magnetica, the forthcoming DS release incorporates strategic puzzle elements as marbles roll down complex, twisted paths towards a goal.

The object however is for the players to halt the progression of the marbles by "launching" new, additional marbles into the descending ones. In what promises to be an addicting, fast paced game, the downward sloping marbles will disappear if players can successfully match them with three or more similarly stylized marbles .

Magnetica heavily utilizes the unique aspects of the portable, as all of the game's actions are controlled via the stylus and the touch-screen of the device. Said to be highly complex and challenging, the forthcoming DS puzzle game is set to release on June 5th, 2006 .

Sounds kind of cool, hopefully its better than the crap foisted to us known as Polarium.
 
puzloop was what mitchell claim zuma was ripping off right?

Also polarium was not bad for a cheap title. presentation needed work though.

True, it would have been nice to get it at a budget price, but I paid full price on the release date expecting much more. Regardless, I can't wait to see the first screens of this game.

It wasn't bad but it was also full priced. Games like Polarium or Electroplankton really need to be $14.99 to $19.99 at launch imo.
 
Ah cool, this game does sound interesting. I love having the touch screen for puzzle games.

I didn't really care for Polarium, but Meteos is by far my favorite puzzle game ever. Okay....well let me just say it is tied with Tetris so I don't get stones thrown at me.

4 Player Meteos is one of the greatest things ever created. I don't think there is another multiplayer puzzle game that can compare.

Did you know that Mitchell currently plans legal actions against the Zuma developer`? :)
 
I tried this the other day as it was available on the NDS Lite store mocks. Movements were very smooth and colors looked great on the new hardware. As for gameplay it seems quite addictive, but I have a feeling more time will be spent with Tetris DS Wifi...
As the price is not too high, I'll probably pick this up as well when I buy my DSL.

Are Mitchell now Nintendo Puzzle exclusive developers? Have they always been?
 
I used to think Zuma was like thiis amazing peice of brilliance, and then I found out it was a rip-off. That hurt.

But cool for Mitchell. Good to see us lame Americans will get another one of their puzzle gems. Bring it!
 
Zuma (or a Zuma-type game) on the DS is perfect for the system. Please please have a $20 pricetag, game. I'll be there. Maybe even for $30, but I won't feel as good about it.
 
Two New Titles Announced For Nintendo DS

It's been more than 20 years since Nintendo's highly acclaimed franchise, Super Mario Bros.®, first hit store shelves. On May 7, eager fans from Mario's classic days must wait no longer to see the brothers return in an all-new platformer with the launch of New Super Mario Bros. for Nintendo DS.

On the heels of Valentine's Day romance is in the air, even in the Mushroom Kingdom. But Princess Peach wasn't able to celebrate with her special someone, seeing that she's been taken prisoner by Bowser and Bowser Jr. Only the Mario Bros. can rescue the princess from her evil captors as they battle familiar enemies like Goombas and Koopas along with new foes and big bosses.

New Super Mario Bros. is loaded with features and characters that could only exist in the Mushroom Kingdom, including all-new power-ups like the BlueShell, in which Mario can ride, and a massive Mushroom that makes him ultra-huge. The title features stunning 3-D models moving through lavish, cleverly designed 2-D worlds, culminating in a final showdown for the freedom of Princess Peach.

Then, on June 5, another title launches for Nintendo DS. In Magnetica, marbles roll down a twisted path toward the goal and it's up to players to stop them by launching new marbles into the oncoming ones. The marbles will disappear if players match three or more in this massive marble elimination. All actions are controlled with the stylus in this title that satisfies even the strongest puzzle addiction.

Yeah, Zuma is a blatant rip off of Puzzloop, but it does add some interesting things to the game. I'll be buying it for the DS regardless. The whole situation reminds me of Bejeweled vs Zoo Keeper, but I'm not sure if any legal action is planned with that one.

the games have the same basic mechanic but zookeeper takes the concept a little further in terms of chains and what not. Which is probably enough to not have them get sued.

Puzzle mode is interesting... but 100 is FAR from enough.

I still want my Picross on DS, though. Heck, I even saw books of picross grids in my local press (sold as a so-doku derivative...) ! It was a big hit in Japan, especially with downloads in the shops.

Mitchell, not NoA ;)
The president said it all lasts a little bit longer because they are in Japan and the Zuma developer is in the USA.
