Major PS4 System Software Update v2.0 Available NOW

Folder support. Haven't tried playlist support.

Orders get recognized. You can play them all at once or just one album/mix on repeat or shuffle. It's just a basic simple player but doing the job fine. It even shows you the album cover when available.

It's subpar but functional. I think this was just a placeholder, until they sort out a better one.

There is no way of queuing up a custom list of albums, it recognises folder structure, but you either play one album or play all on the drive. Pretty bare bones.

Thanks so much! Even though it sounds like it could be better, it also could be a lot worse! This is good enough for me, at least for now. I don't really have my music in good order (metadata wise, I pretty much just have folders of stuff), so I actually prefer folder style than album style.

That is very cool and I still need to try it, but we should have suspend and resume by now and it shouldn't have taken nearly a year to get something basic like pausing downloads. I just feel like Sony could do so much more in this area, MS seems to introduce new features and tweaks so damn quickly while Sony is slow to react.

As much as I enjoy reading this exact same post for the 1000th time coming from the 100th person, it nevertheless doesn't change the fact that the lack of one feature does not in any way make it "barebones".

This might be wishful fantasy, but what happens if you remote play in to your PS4 and then try to SharePlay? Can the system handle piping out two streams or does one cut off the other?

After the update I played for a few seconds in the menus and the system locked and turned off instantly. The controller would not turn it on.

I had to press the power button twice and connect the ds4.

After that it did a hd check or whatever and I had no other issues for the little time I checked the os.

Need more stability.

Also I'd rather have an installed games folder than the library. Unless there is a filter for installed games I missed.

Same with the vita I bought last week. I browsed for a million years to find the stuff I wanted to download. Add some filters dammit!

I knew I shouldn't have tried the rest mode. It's stuck with the flashing yellow light now... Took all the precautions mentioned earlier in the thread too.

If you were thinking about trying it, don't.

Edit: Had to hold the power button for a while to hard boot it. How did this get through testing?

Yeah just tried it...

It works.

Location has nothing to do with it.

It's clear the OS team in Japan is out of touch. I hear they aren't even pressured.

I honestly think if Sony moved their OS and FW teams to the west you'd get more substantial updates in a timely manner with less problems.

I even suggested they hire a 3rd party company to take over.

This isn't in the OP I don't think, but a colleague asked me if he could update via USB (he has enough internet where online gaming is just about feasible, but sizeable downloads are pretty much out of the question) and I found this link:

http://uk.playstation.com/systemsoftwareversion/

(UK obviously, not sure if any differences)

There's a download link for the file in there (207MB).

Is anyone else experiencing the volume drop I've spoken about? It's after you go to invite friend in Shareplay. It tells you there is no mic (I haven't got one) and then when I back out, the volume goes right down and the only way I can put it right is to reboot my PS4.

If you're having issues connecting to your YouTube account in the app, try going to the ps4 settings then PSN and go to "Link with other services". Was still really flakey and failed once or twice but worked in the end, although the app keeps forgetting me now. We'll just have to wait for stability patches.

Has anyone ever had a 3rd party do their firmware updates in the console space?

Only nice thing about the update is the performance improvement. Otherwise the sorting and whatnot is still atrocious without adding folder functionality. Don't care for the other additions. Not impressed at all.

Ok, I need a definitive answer:

Can I turn off my PS4 while downloading a game in the Background? I can't pause it because it's in the background, and I don't want to put into Rest Mode.

Or should I leave my PS4 on for 4 more hours? Is there a problem o leave it on downloading or is it safe without risk of damaging it?

Share play isn't thy great unless you have google fiber apparently lol. My friends tryna play Destiny and it's like watching a 5 year old play. He can't aim worth a crap because it's laggy.

I would imagine it would work better for single player games. When playing Destiny, you're already using your bandwidth since you're connected to the servers, add on the Share Play on top of that and you probably both need a damn good connection to get good results.

Seems like people in here have had good experiences with other games

playing a multiplayer game uses a tiny amount of bandwidth...strain is usually in ping...

There's a mic included with every PS4.

crappy internet will cause a bad experience.

you want as high of upload speed as possible to get a smooth experience

WiFi is generally not good for uploading. May want to keep your ethernet in if possible when doing shareplay

Pretty sure thats what standby/rest is for. Why in the world would your console be damaged by leaving it on for a few hours?

Google says my PSN is linked to my Google account for youtube access etc, but the PS4 is not having any of it.

Time to wait until it calms down.

yup

I like the side notes the give us too... feels as good as the launch UI's time

Sadly for me the Dynamic themes are yet available in the store

guessing later in the afternoon

I'm thinking about making a Japanese/EU account later today.

They seem to have themes.

Unless, like you said, NA gets them later today.

Loving USB Music Player. So nice to have fluid, quick and easy in-game custom music. This just wasn't common/easy enough on PS3 since individual developers had to support it.
