Major PS4 System Software Update v2.0 Available NOW

So the voice commands work great, but they don't work when you have a game running?

I tried to use them while playing Destiny last night and it kept popping up with a message saying I couldn't use the commands at this time. So I backed out to the home screen and tried again, still no luck. I had to actually close the Destiny app and then they were available again. Tried it a few more times with the same result, so that seems to be the case. Kind of sucks because they work fantastically otherwise.

Also, it doesn't seem like you can use the voice commands while in a party chat. Is that the same on Xbox? It sucks playing multiplayer with friends and you want to tell the console to take a screenshot and it won't because you're in party chat.

I ran into an odd issue yesterday when I checked my Notifications. It was full of failed uploads of titles which I don't want to upload to the cloud. If you have the system set up to have power after it goes into the new "rest mode" it now forces you to upload all saves to the cloud, well, my cloud storage was FILLED to capacity and a bunch of titles weren't able to complete the upload process.

I am wondering if this doesn't have something to do with the way that the "rest mode" bug happens... All the notifications were within a minute of each other. Could this be the bug they created? When the system goes into "rest mode" and it starts uploading ALL saves on the system, a "feature" nobody announced and I for one never asked for, when the system runs into a failed upload does it then go into the pulsing orange light mode due to the inability to finish the upload jobs?

Why would Sony take away the ability to selectively upload the saves to the cloud that the user chooses to upload? The PS3 lets you decide which games will upload to the cloud and which ones will not. I have way too many save files to fit on the cloud and I do not want the PS4 to make decisions like that for me, as it obviously can't be trusted to make the right choices.

You can choose which saves go to the cloud, for example, I turned off the NBA2K save as that's half a gig. Settings/Application Saved Data Management/Saved Data in Storage/Upload to Online Storage .... and then just use options on the saves you don't want to have uploaded.

Thanks for the info... But, when I looked at it last night, I did not see a way to control which saves go to the cloud and which saves do not. It seemed to me at the time that it was an all or nothing choice for the new "rest mode". If I disable it then no overnight charging, no automatic trophy sync and no automatic cloud upload.

Can you show me where or how it lets you selectively choose what gets uploaded? I was only able to see a way to selectively delete which saves were already uploaded.

I never used the cloud storage for game saves in the past and I was always able to use the old "standby mode". Now it seems I am forced to use the cloud storage if I want to use the "rest mode".

If this is part of the pulsing orange light issue then Sony needs to provide a way to selectively disable it, as on the PS3, or they need to provide me with more cloud storage space at no additional cost.

Just checking into this thread but I'm assuming that there is a rest mode issue? Since the update I've had three instances where I attempt to boot from rest mode with the ds4 and all that happens is that the orange lights on the console flash in and out . System doesn't boot. Ds4 does nothing. Physical power button on the console does nothing. I have to pull the power and hard reset the system. Is this related to the update? I'm worried my system is about to brick.

That is perfectly "normal", and what we're all experiencing. Just for reference, instead of digging around and unplugging the cable, just hold the power button down until it beeps(could take anywhere from 7-20 or more seconds) to shut it off when its stuck like that.

Its an issue. Hold down the power button for about 30 seconds and the system will reset. Or just power down the PS4 when not in use.

It's a shame that the rest mode issue has become front and center in this update. The share play is so awesome. It should be a much bigger deal than it is.

while i agree wholeheartedly, if Sony had their shit together this wouldnt be an issue. In all seriousness they need an entirely new firmware team. Not are the only are they dreadfully slow to release updates, but they are beyond out of touch with what their customers want, and this type of thing happens way too often.

You could excuse the speed at which they churn out updates if they worked flawlessly...however, they dont...

Holy shit. I put the PS4 on sleep mode for 2 hours since I had to get out of home. I came back, woke up the console pressing the PS button on the controller and the thing turned off immediately. Color me impressed as fuck.

Edit: I'm still getting an error when I try to sign into Youtube tho (WS-37313-7)

The rest-mode bug isn't a big deal but it is annoying. Sony needs to get their shit together with firmware. It's like night and day between them and MS on this issue.

So, my PS4 wont turn back of rest mode. It is safe to just unplug the system?
I mean, that PS4 twitter talked about entering safe mode but the front power button doesnt work.

A system locking issue like this? The fact that I have to disable one of the features I've had since day one in order to bypass the problem and to not potentially cause damage to my machine is a big deal to me.

No actually helpful responses from Sony makes this even more frustrating. They need to fix this before the weekend, or at the very least provide us with a useful explanation.

Stability-updates-300x234.jpg

Just had my first crash ever. I've been updated for over 24hours and its probably the 3rd time I've used my console since the update. It booted to the home screen, 5 seconds later the audio cut and system crashed. Nothing worked. So I did a hard reset and had to wait while it performed the health check. It then warned me not to turn the system off the way that I did, which was handy.

I don't use rest mode, have always turned the system off. I'm a little uneasy about the update now, since my system has never crashed before.

Xbox One voice commands work in party chat. Haven't ran into a situation yet where voice commands didn't work.

I usually put my PS4 into standby mode but ever since the update, haven't used rest mode. Will definitely avoid using it until the issue gets resolved.

I switched to the white theme...with the cubes or whatever. Was pleasantly surprised by the sound design change. I like it a lot.

I like it a lot, too; but it's not worth all the issues we're now seeing with Rest Mode. Oh SOONY, why is it always "two steps forward, one step back" with you? I'm really, REALLY happy with the PS4's UI now, but it's so disheartening that nobody at SONY is addressing the masses and their issue with Rest Mode.

For some reason, FFXIV and the Lego:Hobbit demo are in my library (not downloaded, just the icon), even though I never downloaded either of them, ever. Not sure if it was there before the patch, but they're just sitting there with the stuff I actually bought. Strange.

Someone before said waking the PS4 from sleep is loads faster now. Am I missing something because it took just as long as a cold boot for me.

I usually keep the console turned off but just for the sake of it I did 3 test cycles of rest mode then wake up and it worked without a hitch. Apart from youtube's shit app that won't let me log in I never had any problems with FW 2.0, still sucks that it glitches for some of you.

Just wanted to add that I thought my rest mode was fine until I changed my settings to have my console connect to the Internet in rest mode.

Then I started getting the flashing orange light issue, I've switched that option off for the moment.

I successfully loggen in once with the Youtube app, but when the app was restarted I wasn't logged in. Writing my email and password every time is just not viable...

I usually use the TV's youtube app paired with the smartphone and it's a fuckin mess there also with connection issues, slowdowns etc. but at least it keeps me logged on.

Not sure if right thread but is it possible to put an existing 1TB SSHD from old PS4 to a new PS4 then just have it magically work with same settings/users? Like say I have a 1TB SSHD in one of the PS4's right now and if I wanted to just unplug it then put it into another new PS4, will the new PS4 work like the old one straight away with same settings, themes and everything set like how it was in the old PS4? Or would I need to still re-format etc.?

Thanks in advance.

Yeah, the youtube app in my TV is also shitty. Chromecast works great with Youtube and Netflix, but using the PS4 when it happens to already be on would be nice.

Did the Youtube app is getting errors for you guys? I cant conect it to my account or upload stuff to youtube

I am in a weird situation where I have two YT accounts under one Gmail address. I ended up connecting the YT account I want to use via the email address in that page's advanced settings (plusgoogle.com) and that at least got PSN and YT linked. The normal way (logging in with my main Gmail, password, and entering the two-step number) just wasn't working at all for me.

When I try to sign in to the app I just get "This service is not available at this time" or something like that. I also still cannot upload any clips to YT.

This is after I manually rebuilt the database in my PS4 (it's my understanding that the FW update does this anyway but I felt it couldn't hurt).

That has been my only issue with FW 2.0 so far. I've just turned off my PS4 completely to avoid that rest mode issue.

youtube app has been working fine for me now that psn is back to normal.

one thing that annoys me is that apps developers don't seem to want to use the bumpers or triggers to quicker navigation of tiles. same applies to the dmb tiles. why are you making me tape right 15 times just to get to something? whyyyyy

somebody mentioned going into your google account> settings> revoke access for PSN. then try signing in again with the youtube app on your ps4. that worked for me last night, although i was getting a different error code.

That's a great idea. I don't know why the UI/UX designer doesn't just sign up to gaf, ask for everyone's complaint and suggestions and get to work along with the developers. This idea is brilliant, on top of eventually being able to use the touchpad for navigation.

Has anyone tried a complete factory reset or perhaps a brand new console with 2.0? Just wondering if it would be worth the headache and solve all my problems.

I'm getting around 200-400 kb/s, it's terrible compared to my 3-5 mb/s pre-update speed.

network test is showing 40 Mbps/7Mbps for me. I have 100/10 service...but I'm guessing the speed test isn't even lasting long enough to get that far.

haven't noticed any slowness. could be the particular cdn your isp is connecting to. you might want to try different dns servers to see if that helps.

How do you do that?
