Major PS4 System Software Update v2.0 Available NOW

I had my first crash today. Went to a black screen and I couldn't turn it on with the controller or by holding the power button. Had to unplug it to get it to work.

The age of stability has ended.

I feel so blessed to not have had any issues with 2.0. The only thing that popped up was the usb charging in rest mode. The update reverted to leaving the usb power on for only 3 hours. Once I changed that I was good to go. I hope it all gets ironed out soon!

so, is there a way to hide tides on the home screen, or did I just imagine reading that?

Ok what the hell is up with my PS4's disc drive?

It's been in rest mode all day with a solid orange line like normal. I got home about 20 mins ago but I turned on my PS4 and I just heard it do the 3 beep noise and the disc drive would make like a grinding noise but no disc is in their. It kept doing this so I turned off my PS4.

Edit: I turned it back on and it's still making a noise like a disc is being inserted like every 3 seconds..I'm gonna try rebuilding the database.

You might have to do the disc drive fix.

If there isn't a disc in the drive, just turn the screw clockwise (tighten) like 10 or so times.
It won't actually tighten itll keep spinning, but it will stop the problem.

I know there is a lot of negative in this thread, but has anyone else noticed that audio chat sounds much clearer after the update or am I crazy?

Not manually. Only the 15 most recent apps are shown. Everything else is relegated to the Library.
What I'd really like is the option to turn off all that other crap that I never use, that Sony still leaves front and center, like the TV apps, their own video/music services, etc. Certainly not among my "most recent 15", I've never used them period, and I never will.

It would be nice if you could do it manually, but if you're not using them they will eventually disappear. Not perfect, but it's something at least.

You aren't going crazy, that was one of the improvements in the update.

So I hooked up my new PS4 today, downloaded an update (i'm assuming the new one) and my PS Plus games I was stockpiling. I left it on while it downloaded to hand out candy and came back and had the blinking orange light people are talking about and unresponsive. I unplugged it and rebooted and it did some disk check and came back on. I completely shut it down for the night. Am I ok now or is there something else I should be doing?

Do they beta test these updates? Seems they should have found some of these bugs.

It may not be as widespread of an issue as some people believe it is. With what, 13 million units shipped, I'm not seeing 13 million people complaining about the update, only a relative handful of people. And it's typically the people that are having problems (not the ones without issues) that speak up to have their voices heard.

I'm not trying to downplay the issue but it very well could be the case that they never ran into the variable or variables at work here that is causing some of these issues during their testing.

Okay...
So I though that I was only hit by OLoF (Orange Light of Freezing) and that too after I even completely turned off the PS4 after updating...

But thankfully it was a one time thing, but yesterday I observed something else. I got TLoU digitally and when I started it, it froze right that the launch screen (with Ellie and Joel) and PS4 became unresponsive despite the background music of PS4 being played.

PS4 shut off automatically and then it was fine but another thing happened, I was in a chat with a friend and suddenly screen went black and PS4 shut off itself!

Booted it up, it checked for errors (the both times, no database rebuilding stuff) and everything seemed to work fine.

Hopefully like OLoF, this all will be a one time thing, but it sure was damn annoying.

now i'm wondering if someone forgot to comment out the standby/resume section of the code LOL

it really does sound like its trying to resume quickly but failing once something is active like a game/background process, etc (based on the reports of it being supposedly fixed when a game is not in the drive or its not doing shit in the background)

So rest mode works perfectly fine on my main PS4 but it was acting up on the second one. Went to the settings and found that I left USB power to always be on on my main but not on the other. Turned it on to always on the second console and so far smooth sailing for now. Still can't link my youtube acc to either though :(.

My rest mode just got busted after working fine since 2.0 release. I hope Sony can't fix shit and have to replace all ps4s and just go bankrupt, Sony is a fucking joke.

I had the same problem. Rest mode is shot. I suggest powering down completely every night. It boots up pretty fast.

What annoys me is that the problem is widespread and Sony said "we will look into it". Which kinda rubbed me the wrong way. Maybe it's just me?

Latest update has crippled my download speed :(. Gone from 3MB/s to 200kb....

It seems to go slow one minute then fast for a bit then slow again.

You can try what others have suggested for YouTube.

1. Unlink from PSN by going into PSN>LINK OTHER SERVICES> YOUTUBE
2. Go to account settings on Google and then to go to app permissions.
3. Look for PSN there and revoke access to it.
4. Go back to PSN from settings and to LINK OTHER SERVICES and then link YouTUbe.
5. Should work.

Well hey there...that's...a bit extreme.

I know people are frustrated heck even I was but it can be fixed, nothing so bad. Causing inconveniences, yes but still...that's pretty extreme.

Went to bed last night, no problem. Wake up and I see the yellow bar slowly blinking. Console is 100% unresponsive, controller doesn't seem to connect.

I'm not even sure what to do, other than unplug it. This is awful.

Is there a reason not to set the USB to be on all the time? The default 3 hour setting was nott good, I couldn't tell if the controller was fully charged or not.

I haven't had any real issues with the update so far but its dissapointing to see so many others that have. I have taken the advice of the masses and decided not to use rest mode for a while.

Strangely enough, I've had zero issues with 2.0. Panicked yesterday when it didn't connect to PSN, but I was told PSN itself was down then. Haven't run into any problems. Youtube works well too.

Played towerfall, sportsfriends and a bunch of other games using shareplay with a fellow gaffer across the Atlantic and it worked flawlessly. The thing is the best feature I've seen this generation so far. Thoroughly impressed by how painless and smooth the experience was

The three hour option is just to save power. When the USB setting is on in standby the fans still spin a bit.

so you want a replacement console that can go into standby but doesnt get games anymore? Okay

press the power button for 15+ seconds.

Am I the only person who had the orange flashing light problem before 2.0? It would happen like half the time I tried to put it into standby mode, but I figured it was just a bit of a glitch (could never be bothered looking it up). Hopefully Sony has a stability fix for it soon, now that it is a more prominent issue.

my rest mode stopped working. came to this thread to look for a fix but i don't know in which page it is. would anyone be so kind to point me towards it?

What do you mean exactly as manager account? You mean the google account and not an old youtube account added to an existing google account?

Within the settings page for the youtube page, you ca assign another email address as a manager (so they can both make changes). I created a new dummy gmail account and assigned it as a manager, then linked that dummy email address in the PS4. That worked.

Fucking Sony, my rest mode is busted to. I reinstalled the firmware and see if that would so the trick, but nope. They are quickly falling at out of my good graces with all their fuck ups this year.

Got the rest mode bug last night. It's irritating as I've got to download a particularly large file in time for a beta test tonight and I've got to use rest mode to do it.

Coming from a life long Sony fan, they're really not impressing me this generation.

I'm in the same boat but oddly my ps4 is fine in rest while downloading but once the download finishes it goes to the blinking orange and is locked up.

Not what I meant.
But if they go bust then there is no place to submit games to and thus no game will be released on that device past that point.

So what you wrote is that you want that the system becomes worthless going forward. Maybe that's not what you meant, but that is what you wrote.

Don't unplug your system unless holding down the power button for a while does nothing. You should probably be fine otherwise.

Had the blinking orange light today. Ugh. Unplugged. Re plugged. Turned off rest mode.

Not putting it into rest mode again till they sort this shit out. They need to start doing betas.

We wait so long for a major update and yet it has issues. If you're not going to beta test, then get it right.

This happened to me last night. I fixed this bug by repeating the steps you described. Microsoft's idea of having betas for their firmware updates seems like a logical step Sony should use going forward.

I got the rest mode issue the first night after I had updated. Then I did the database rebuild trick and haven't had an issue since. Sucks that such a big update has been so buggy though, love the new details and features.

Sending messages is still slow as fuck. Especially at prime time. Waiting 3 to 5 min. till the damn thing gets send or received is such a pain. Plz Sony fix your online stuff. This is so embarrassing. I would not complain if MP would be still free but now I just want a flawless experience.
