Several communities on social platform Reddit are protesting X owner Elon Musk after the billionaire made a gesture at a post-inauguration speech Monday that critics have likened to a Nazi salute, provoking some Reddit forums to institute or consider bans against links to X, formerly known as Twitter.

• Large subreddits such as r/f1 , r/LiverpoolFC and r/nintendo, which collectively have more than 7 million members, have instituted a ban on links to X, citing Musk’s controversial gesture.
• Musk found himself in hot water this week after making the gesture, though he did not explain what he meant by it and has blasted critics who said it was a Nazi salute.
• Some subreddits like r/nintendo instituting the ban have alternatively allowed for members to share screenshots or videos of X posts as long as direct links to the Musk-owned site are not shared.
• A moderator on r/pcgaming, a subreddit with 3.8 members, said the community has contemplated the ban on X links for some time, adding “X has become increasingly hateful, toxic and less and less moderated.
• Other subreddits considering or enacting a ban on X links include r/NYYankees, r/massachussetts, r/Georgia, r/xmen and r/destiny2,r/GamingleaksandRumors and r/Transformers.

I wish, but I doubt it. I friggin' hate Reddit's politics and its moderation, but Musk's platform is hardly the shining light of fair and balanced discussion either. Twitter/X is entertaining for the time being, but it's not difficult to see the where it is headed: just another scummy online hangout for extreme nutters at the other end of the scale. At best, I suppose it might be a good thing that they both cancel each other out now. For years it was just Twitter and Reddit, both on the same side. Fuck that nightmare.

r/formula1 has been cancerous for a long time. You're gonna be banned in split second if you don't support minorities and diversity propaganda, but everyone stays quiet when there's a race in an Arab country or somewhere else where people are oppressed on a daily basis.
