Majora's Mask 3D |OT| Remakes are a Nice Thing to Have… Heh, heh

Which isn't always a bad thing. Super Mario 64 DS is the definitive version content-wise, meanwhile N64 is definitive control-wise(And probaly better to speedrun as well, given Siglemic's advances)

It's not a baaad thing per se, but I think it'd just be nicer to have 1 version of the game with all the good things. Most of my complaints with this version would have been addressed with 2 simple changes
- Add a hard mode with the original save system and unlock a way to Zora swim without needing magic
If those changes were made, I could easily overlook the weaker (IMO) boss battle with Georgey and happily call it definitive. As it stands I don't think I can just throw out my N64 cart because of this version.

So does the game completely reset when the three days are over or do you keep your items like in the Souls-games?

Key items are kept along with masks, heartpieces and upgrades. You lose other items like bombs, rupees and arrows though, for example.

When you play the Song of Time, you're shown the inventory screen on the bottom screen, anything highlighted you lose. This is basically anything stackable (bottle contents, magic beans, arrows, bombs, rupees, etc.) and temporary quest items (deeds, letters, etc.)

Wait wait wait what are you refering to "when the 3 days are over"?

There are 2 ways the cycle can end:

-Moon crashes when 3 days are over, you get a "Game Over" screen and return to day 1 losing any progress or items you found in the last cycle (masks, weapons, bottles....everything)

-You play the song of time returning to day 1. You lose all progress but you keep your new items, songs and masks you adquired on the last cycle. You lose any kind of ammo, rupees or things inside bottles.

This mask always gets me

Ahhhh, I meant when the moon crashes. So you'll lose everything? It's pretty much a deleted save after that? I've never played MM before, so is there any item I should get immediately to prevent frustration?

Just start playing, it's really not as bad and complicated as it seems. Most of the important things to keep in mind are explained to you in the first few hours of the game. After that time is completely under your control.

Thanks! I'm really excited...it's the only old Zelda game I've never played before :)

It's the same for me, and it's fantastic so far (I'm almost done). Don't be scared of the time mechanic or losing stuff. Everything in the game is designed around it and it won't be a problem. At worst you'll have to replay parts of a dungeon at some point if you plan your time badly, but even that sounds worse than it actually is.

Man, the bombchu game at the gallery is hard as shit. Can't get the fucking bombchus to hit the damn targets.

Nvm, just beat it. Hit them all except one on the first round. Don't know why I was having so much trouble before.

Been planning on picking this game up as I never played it on the n64, sounds confusing as hell though after reading the OP... Kinda daunting.

It's really not. It's still a Zelda game from Nintendo.

I just spammed it for the most part. Sometimes you'll get lucky and hit ones on the opposite side.

Why am I having trouble entering the Post Office? It says out on mail run :9AM to 3PM. I've tried at a bunch of times and it won't let me enter. I don't remember having a problem on the N64 version.

Tried 4PM? Tried following him around until he goes back?

Is it just me or is the snow dungeon a confusing mess on party with OoT water temple?

I wouldn't say on par with water temple but it did confuse me for a while, figured it out and it was pretty simple.

Just stand in one place and time the release of them (send out like 3 at a time).

It took me probably 20 times to beat it, mostly because I would get so frustrated. All the other mini-games I have found to be not too hard.

I think this is a huge problem with MM. Everybody makes it sound way more complicated than it is and it puts some people off. Yes it's different from your normal Zelda, but it just works. It's designed 100% with the time mechanic in mind.

All the Q&A and hints and whatever else is in the OP is unnecessarily confusing for beginners. Just go and play it. It's great.

Yeah the emphasis veterens put on doing everything a certain time effective way is probably just off putting. Just play the game knowing its a Zelda built around ressetting time over and over.

Don't worry about what people are saying. Ever since this game was announced, some fans have been over complicating it in an attempt to get more people to try it. Just jump in and you'll figure it out naturally. It's a simple game.

Pretty much this.

The problem is that even saying you have to reset things to makes it sound tedious and repetitive, like you're forced to do some things over and over again. The game is deep but completely accessible. And more importantly very fresh.

To all of those saying you're not told about the inverted song of time ...

wxu0p.jpg

That's the first Bomber kid I'm talking to after the introduction cycle. The HMS tells you they got the scoop on stuff so if you don't talk to them for hints it's your own fault if you never learn about the inverted song of time^^

And Scarecrow still mentions it, too the first time to talk to him in the shop.

pdp5p.jpg

Quoting myself. Just talked to another two Bombers. They remind you EVERY TIME that the scarecrow has a song to teach you. I assume they will only stop after you learned it finally.

I remember Anth0ny going on and on about this in the review thread how they needed to make this clear. I think they did their part without doing what everyone always wants them not to do (
holding your hand and explicitly telling you
). The irony.

People should not focus on the time limit (there is no time limit) or "resetting" time so much when talking about MM. MM has a time mechanic. It has time travel. It's comparable to the movie groundhog day. You start the three days over and over again with the goal to save the world (and help with people's problems), while keeping the knowledge of what happens and you can use that to your advantage. That's more important than the stuff you lose each time.

You lose your arrows and bombs and rupees, but from previous cycles you know where you can get rupees and bombs and arrows in a few minutes and then you're starting off even better than last time. You know where the next dungeon is and how to get there. Not to mention you actually keep important equipment and open shortcuts.

Fuck Snowhead. Just rage quit after the fourth time I fell all the way to the bottom of the dungeon while trying to do that bit where you have to roll around the wall. Surely I'm doing something wrong?

I followed him and was able to get in at 12 and 3.
Mini-game was unavailable at 12 and it kicked me out after he finished a nap, lol. Was able to access the mini game at 3.
I don't remeber having to follow him before.

If you just nudge the circle pad up a bit instead of all the way, it should advance at a slower rate that's easier to control.

Edit: made a MMA post in the wrong topic HAHA.

On topic though, the Great Bay Skulluta house has to be completed in 1 day to get the reward, right?

Ruthless Robbie vs Rory headlining, with Aldo vs McGregor as the co-main for UFC 189. Sounds great, can't wait to see what the final card looks like when they inevitably get injured.

Will the four of them together be strong enough to stop the moon?

I remember a few people getting pissy because I suggested not to spoil things like the two songs that change time.

Yea it's a little weird. Usually the world is ending (no pun ...) because your helper character chimes in one time too many but when something isn't thrown in everyone's face for once then it's a crime and the devs failing for some reason.

You have to be careless to miss the hints and nudges towards the songs. If you're new to the game you'll be talking to a lot of people you'd otherwise be skipping if you're on autopilot.

I was in the same boat as you. To be honest, it was pretty daunting the first couple of days. I was on here whining about how it was so daunting, in fact. Now I'm in the zone, churning out siequests and planning my future days like clockwork. It's really something else. Go for it.

I really wish this game had an option for mapping inputs or something.

It drives me crazy reaching over to press fake touch screen buttons while select, ZR, and ZL are duplicate functionality, and the entire dpad goes unused almost all of the time.

On the positive side, I love that I was able to mess around until I played the inverted song of time and song of double time by accident. I don't think I ever got the advice from the scarecrow about it.

The dog racing mini-game is such bullshit. My dog always gets shitting placing. Is there some kind of trick to pick the fastest dog?

Edit: Just figured out what I need to do.
Wear the Mask of Truth when picking up the dog to see how it feels.

I managed to win it on my 2nd match.

If you wear the Mask of Truth and pick up the dogs you will be able to read their thoughts. I'm playing the JP version, so I am not exactly sure what the dogs say in the NA version, but you want to choose a dog that says something like "today is my day! I'm feeling good! or "I will win for my family!" etc.

I figured it out and was still annoyed by how many times it took me. It's not very good imo.

Man, just finally starting to play now. Amazon had a lot of troubles with my copy and was supposed to get here on Monday, but alas, it barely arrived today.

However, maybe i'm remembering wrong but at the beginning:
the part of the hall that it's twisted before reaching inside the clock tower; didn't you walk that part by yourself in the N64? Why it's here a cutscene? Also, it wasn't 5 fairies the one that you've to look inside the town? Did they really cut down that quest to one single fairy?

You're misremembering on both counts. It was a cutscene on the N64, and there was only one fairy on the N64 as well.

It was always a cutscene and it was always just one fairy.

Some random thoughts:
Having you deposit your money into the bank before you restart the cycle is a clever way in emphasizing to kids the importance of saving your money. Dunno. Thought of that instantly.

Skull Kid is one of my favorite characters in the series already. His development has been great already and I LOVE the moment when he says he got rid of Epona only to let us find her being well-taken care of in a farm. So good.
