Millions of people around the globe live every day without money. Yet some hipster from Utah gets an article written about him?

Jeez ahahahaha goddamn that word is fucking dead.

I'm not saying it's wrong, but he kind of made it a point to shit on our entire society. Kind of a slap in the face to people who work and earn money.

and if the story hadn't included his personal views people would still be shitting on him anyways. people shitting on other people. it's the way of the world.

Actually he is.

If you read the OP, you'll see that his "ethos" revolves around whatever comes naturally. Basically what people are willing to do or share in the natural course of their activites. I'm sure he sees the usage of the library as being on-par with sharing the warmth of a campfire that someone has invited him to sit near. I'm not saying I agree, but I do think he is being internally consistent, from what I can tell.

I don't understand - what's the difference between using a tax-funded public library and signing up for foodstamps? He seems fine with doing one but rejects the other. Surely entitlements like foodstamps are every bit as natural to society as funding a library? If his philosophy allows him to "share in what is freely given" I see no reason why he should embrace one entitlement and reject the other. It seems inconsistent to me.

I suppose I don't exactly see him living without using currency to be that noble, if that's what we are even debating. But a ton of resources, thought process, and time went into making things like libraries, infrastructure, and the internet possible, and he contributes nothing to it in a positive way.

Because that would incur a type of debt (foodstamps).

Can You Imagine What SureAI Is Going To Do With Garfield?
I don't get it? He's trying to follow Jesus' example? By doing what.... Nothing? He's not contributing to society in any way, shape or form. I doubt this is what Jesus or other religious figures would want us to do.

It'd be different if he was living like this with other people, such as a tribe and he was responsible for hunting for food or making clothes for the rest. But he's not even doing that! This guy is a complete nutter nutella.

I saw a video on Vimeo about this guy last week. Almost made a thread about it.

He looked like he had really poor hygeine, but seemed pretty happy and content.

I admire people that can do their own thing and not always follow the same path we all tred. I have great admiration for the Amish, even though they are completely autocratic and somewhat oppressive. I just think it's great we live in a world where these kinds of alternate realities can co-exist.

Without intense economic specialization and a materialistic society we wouldn't have had the internet.

I don't see what's so evil about living in a world where money is used. I'm glad he's happy living in a cave and frying grasshoppers but I'd rather live in a house with my perks while eating good food. At one point he's going to be too old or ill to live this way. I wonder what he'll do then...

I tried this once, but then these people called 'creditors' and 'collection agencies' came knocking at my door.

hot hot hanuman-on-man action
crazy person. i like nice clothes, good food, going out and experiencing events like concerts and art galleries. i like women and i like watching sports and video games on huge TVs. i love music and i love the ability to listen to whatever i want through great speakers. i am passionate about all these things, and they require money. i wouldn't live some shell of a life to prove a point.

moreover, i also want to be able to support a family one day. diapers and baby food costs money. lots of it.

Good for him if he found something he enjoys doing. Not my thing though, I love technology too much.

Indeed.

Money doesn't buy happiness, but I am a lot happier in a room at the Ritz than at the Motel 6.

I like his idea, but I hate the way he feels he's the only one "awake". Sounds like someone I would end up arguing with.

Those people are not living without money by choice, this guy can probably make a good amount of money considering his major in college.
