Currency is necessary as a middle-man in more complex socio-economic systems, but this guy would seem content with bartering given that he lives on little more than roadkill and a Judeo-Christian willpower. I really do respect and admire his honesty, in that he's living like a Judeo-Christian, sans people like him who could work more efficiently as a collective of sorts. And I don't see a problem with him using a library, where the effect his presence within the library for up to an hour would be negligible compared to the effect he might have on the supply of food-stamps, which would be much more noticeable.
However: none of this makes him any more "noble" and selfish than the rest of us. He's simply deigned to drastically lower his living standard(s) in compliance with the simplification of his means of exchanging materials. Good for him, and good for all those other people who want to live the kind of complex, self-fulfilling lifestyle they desire. That group includes me, too.
Honesty is a virtue that few can cling to these days, anyway. But he's living that dream.
