The Music of Marie vol 1
This manga is so beautiful. It's one of those rare manga where I always pause and just look at the art and the details. Not that many manga can pull that off.
The world building they did in one volume was very impressive. The whole mystery surrounding Marie is just intriguing and I always feel weird every time I see Marie flying up there in the sky.
I also wondered why everyone looked so cheerful in the first few chapters. I had a feeling that shit will hit the fan and take an ugly turn very quickly, but it was explained that the music Marie plays calms people down and make them more happy. Makes sense kinda.
Really curious to see where they go next. The first volume ended on a cliffhanger and man, I really hope things turn out very good for Pipi. She honestly doesn't deserve what's happening to her. She loves Kai so much and the dude is jacking off to Marie. Bloody hell.

Buster Keel is, basically, Rave Master's punkish (well, I'm not sure how to describe it, lots of loud looking english signs and accessories everywhere. One city looks like it was straight from Rave) fantasy world, the cleaness of Fairy Tails character designs, and the Video Gameness of Monster Hunter Orage (and some things from that monster manga Mashima did). I guess in some ways its the Darksiders of manga. Though I will give the guy some credit, he does do some really funny faces (which are not unlike the ones in Bakuman).
Derivertive? Sure, but still a very enjoyable fantasy shounen romp. Though it's hard not to laugh at all the RPG stuff it has. The adventure guild, already a rather gamey concept, has Adventurers register their class, and join parties, they have their own levels and quests give them exp to level up and they can't take quests if their party level is too low. They even get titles.

This is really good. Just enjoyed the whole dynamics between the father and the son. Honestly, never a dull moment in the entire 240 pages of the first volume. Very great achievement.
Art as usual, is classic Matsumoto art. Wacky faces, weird body proportions, but it just all works.

As long as it's not too stupid or philosophical, I will accept whatever ending they give.
If you haven't already and weren't already planning to, check out Genkaku Picasso. It's another short serialization from Usamaru Furuya (mangaka of ~Marie) and the art is as imaginative, and breathtaking as it is in The Music of Marie. It's also great manga otherwise.

Reading the plot summary, it looks very interesting. Will give it a read after I'm done with Marie. Thanks.
On another note, I really fucking wish Viz picks up Sakamichi no Apollon and Kodansha to pick up Uchuu Kyoudai. They both are very promising manga and while they are getting anime adaptation which will probably be solid, I still want to read the manga.
It also sucks that both Shogakukan and Kodansha are too dicks to use JManga so they can't pick it up.

Oldschool Matsumoto art was charming and effect, but his more recent stuff is just constantly jaw dropping. It's amazing how much he has improved.

Now that I think about it, I don't know if the whole Kai never existing thing was really needed. I mean it did make sense that his human body can't contain his god like soul, but still, it wasn't really needed. I originally guessed that he was a robot when Pipi's dad wanted to talk her about Kai. It kinda seemed to fit with the whole mechanical thing. The other cool thing is that the other members of the town not telling Pipi actually makes sense within the story. That's why I'm not really mad at the whole "her love made her see Kai" thing.
I'm still thinking about the choice of controlling humans, limiting their progress and establishing eternal peace, or giving complete control of their will resulting in war and chaos in some regions. Honestly, I really can't find that much of an argument against Marie'e existence. While yes, she is limiting progress, it really isn't needed in most cases seeing how they seemed to live off pretty well. I find it weird how some technological advancements were limited. Like for example, I don't see why flying or the electrical robot was a no go. I mean if you impose Asimov's laws on the robots, they are really just harmless and peaceful.
Some of those double spread pages inside Marie were just amazing. So much little details drawn everywhere. Furuya needs to release an artbook with just architectural designs and scenery porn.

Hanaotoko vol 2
This volume made me think, how the hell did Hanao get married? I seriously can't understand how a woman will find him attractive or even have a normal conversation with him.
I'm thinking the third volume will expand more on his backstory. From what I understand, he is a pretty badass guy at baseball so there has to be a reason why he isn't playing at the professional level.
The father-son banter is still enjoyable and great as usual.
I have choice on the next one anyway.

I'm going to try to finish Punpun tonight.
Finished GTO finally. They turn up the melodrama quite a bit but still a fantastic series. Never really lost it's comedy 100%. I would have liked to see more closure
but this really isn't that kind of a series.
