Already stated it. Just like aunt tits, it's comedy. I don't see much material in other media with body swapping, mayonnaise accidents, and some weird reverse showering shit. lol It is just complete ridiculous nonsense and they just so happen to show nudity. I also read and enjoy plenty of romcoms without nudity. The nature of the jokes though for series like TLR sort of constitute it.
I didn't have a problem with Negima or even Love Hina, but those actually had a plot (whether they were any good or not) and weren't even close to as over the top as TLR (original) was, and was leagues away from what TLRD apparently is like.

TLR sadly has more of a plot then Love Hina. And you should have had a problem with everything in Negima, fan-service or not.
With that said, those aren't borderline-H series. There is a reason for that tag. But typically, series are usually adult related like Velvet Kiss, Aunt Tits, Nozoki Ana, etc... TLRD is a bit of an odd ball being a shounen that pushes the limit like the seinen series. If you read Nozoki Ana, which I'm sure you won't (nor should you cause it is shit), I don't think you'd have an issue with the content. That's even with NA having sex-scenes regularly and being more explicit. TLRD on the other hand, puts HS girls into the spotlight. That's not condemnable to start, as a series like Nana to Kaoru pulls it off well. But TLRD pulls the kind of stuff you saw in the latest chapter, while the other series don't.
So I would say you'd have less of an issue with the seinen, even Nana to Kaoru, then TLDR. Why, even when those series are filled with smut? Probably cause TLRD just pushes its own weird limits. You know, tentacle monsters, child turning stuff, body swapping devices, etc... It's more of a fucked up type of smut then the others. Best answer I can give.

The difference is, when I said "TLR has no story," I meant it literally. TLR certainly does not have more of a plot than Love Hina. You not liking the story isn't the same thing as "there is no story." TLR on the other hand has no story at all or at best a vague outline of a frame story. If they added one in Darkness, then that's new; and I'm not going to read it to find out, but I have yet to see anyone comment on anything but the number of breasts per chapter.
I exaggerate. Plus, I've gone on record many times here that I like Love Hina. But one is a love comedy and the other is mostly gag. TLR also has a decently involved back-story throughout the characters. But if you want the equivalent of TLR plot-wise without the fan-service, then that's Onidere. Maybe even Hayate or in a messed up way, Ouran Host Club. Those series go more of an episodic route spinning their setups, delinquent relationships, Hayate's whole deal, and gender bending Haruhi. They don't stray much from those setups and the majority of the manga materials just rehash. You get actual plot development very sparingly, much like TLR. Love Hina and Negima are much more progressive series. The fan-service equivalents there would be I's and Ichigo 100%.
retcon:
Damn you and your retcon. I addressed the thinness of TLR's plot above. And TLRD is, believe it or not, heavier in plot then TLR. It centers mostly around Yami's struggle with her assassin past and an old enemy in the shadows. We also have her somewhat experimental assassin sister involved along with her
"mother."
Most of the chapters though go the gag route with Momo's harem plan. But the plot looms.
retcon2:
FYI, it's called To Love-Ru "Darkness" since Yami is the Golden Darkness and the plot surrounds that. There were a few plot heavy chapters thus far.
You know... I have finally read *some* To Love Ru Darkness. Not reading the predecessor so can't really comment on it but I imagine it's all about the same.
My impression was it has gone way beyond "skirting the limit" of Shounen anymore. I have never seen a shounen that is so flagrant in displaying exposed ass or breast or skin like it. I am actually rather amazed it is still considered Shounen.
Its... how should I say it... "hentai-ness", is way above stuff like Love Hina and the like.

Yea, shounen and seinen aren't full-proof labels for generalizing manga since they are demographics. And even then, the labels can seem off since they are often magazine attached. Series just usually aren't labeled shounen and have this level of fan-service. But they do exist.

There's one scene where you see full vag in the reflection of Rito's eye, but you have to look for it. I'm still amazed Yabuki was able to sneak that in without anyone at Shueisha either noticing or caring.
But by golly so very often it is so goddamn hilarious. Take Cage of Eden, for instance. The various ways the author tried to insert panty/bra/ass-shots regardless of the dinosaurs eating people around is amazing.

But I personally think stuff like TLR Darkness is even more crass than stuff like smut mangas. At least in the latter sex is more often than not treated as a component that can drive the story forward instead of just a device to tease by showing ass or breast for no good reason.
I guess this could be interesting, the art reminds me somewhat of a far less competent Maybe, the spread is reminiscent of something from Dusk Maiden . . .

Not as manly. I mean Jojo Part 2 has like every dude all buffed up with barely any clothes on doing fucking amazing ass shit that'll blow your fucking mind. There's not much out there more manly than that.
Nah. JoJo is fantastic, especially part 2, but Sanctuary is on another level of manliness. It hit home much harder than JoJo ever could. All kinds of dusts were flying into my eyes.

I edited that post like 3 minutes after I made it when I decided to write a more coherent reply rather than something dismissive. You musta had the screen open for a long time to get stealth retconned like that

Interesting premise. It's basically about 9 teenagers with super powers that had their own TV show 7 years prior to the beginning of the story, before the producer got murdered. Now some dude is going around murdering them. Main character can link all of his senses to anyone nearby which helps a lot in fights.
Cool stuff so far.
And with that, I am officially out of manga backlog...
...Guess I'll go watch anime or play games or something.
Does the fulfillment of your lifelong dream mean you will now stop highlighting "Sanctuary" and then lying and pretending the forum just magically knows how super awesome Sanctuary is and highlighted the title itself?

Anybody remember the name of this korean manga about some angels or something trying to stop the most unhappy kid's wish to end earth from coming true. The panels were set up really weird, the art was nice, all digital and I believe it was apart of some 'web toon' website.
It was pretty interesting and I was caught up with all the chapters and I forgot the name
Need a recommendation to marathon some seinen manga, preferably an author whos works are all available in English and complete. I've recently plowed through MATSUMOTO Jiro and MATSUMOTO Taiyo's works.

Whats the web-manwha about a bunch of martial artists fighting in a massive tournament? I think they get kidnapped, or are forced to fight? One thing I remember is they're all assigned numerical power levels.
I think that was what or at least how WSJ and Toei were trying to position it as, unfortunately, I think anime wise its popular but manga wise, I guess its didnt catch on as they hoped.
Because Jump themselves was hyping the hell out of it as the next big thing (and i guess even moreso since 2 of the "Big Three" will be ending soon). But it just hasn't caught fire imo.

"Fanservice" implies it's like a little something extra, like, "hey here's some scantily clad women on top of the plot!" TLRD is just nothing but a series of pictures of girls not wearing clothes. The biggest problem for me is that it's not funny or endearing at all (note: I haven't read TLRD, but I read enough to TLR to know exactly what both series are like.)

I feel like the word "ritual" is being thrown around a bit too loosely lately in this manga. It's basically any series of actions with a goal, now. There's nothing about getting stamps, and unlocking an item with them, that is remotely similar to what rituals were supposed to be.
Dunno, I really liked the whole ritual system and, well, yeah. Pumpkin sauce.
