Interesting that he didn't even meet Sera until she was seven and spent all of that time away from his family. And with the whole "no body" thing, I'm guessing that Papa Akai is probably alive. Whatever he was involved in is definitely going to be a big story reveal.
I guess we can see why Sera remembered Shinichi and Ran so well just based on this first meeting. I'm looking forward to seeing how the rest of this flashback plays out.

It gets better gradually, but then I remember they're (mostly) in middle school and all I think is 'so lewd'. The premise/plot line is always going to be somewhat stereotypical and we can't help that as it's an ecchi shounen even if I'm a little disappointed.

Kid stumbles into his uncle's weird closed off shed to discover Shub-Niggurath, although not explicitly named she calls herself The Black Sheep (or Goat) of the Woods with a Thousand Young, which is Shub-Niggurath's sobriquet. She offers him a wish, and...he asks for her to pretend to be his big sister. Also she's super hot as Shub-Niggurath is known to be. Queue her desperately attempting to figure out how humans work.
Its Nyaruko-san but not bad because its not trying to pretend it isnt a trashy ecchi series by having bad references every other page. Wonder how long she has until Quake Guy comes to kill her.

Tsugumomo is an unfortunate series that hides all of it's AMAZING fight scenes and really decent character/plot development under LABIAS THOUSANDS OF LABIAS AND UNDERAGE MOLESTATION. Like I legitimately believe the author is one of if not THE best mangaka drawing fight scenes today. It's just...fuck man, stop spreading apart pussies every chapter Jesus Christ.
As someone who reads ero doujins and shit regularly, Tsugumomo really makes me uncomfortable sometimes which I feel so angry about because if you took away the ecchi that borders on porn it is straight up GREAT.
It's why I jokingly recommend it or not at all. I can't in good faith tell people to read it when it has such problematic fan service.
As for the Shub-Niggurath manga based on the ero doujins I'd probably say the porn books are actually pretty good stories in their own right, just with...the majority of it being porn. I don't mind the series at all because it's like...I knew what I was getting into. It's cute and I like the relationship between the two of them so I don't mind that it's not like...Lovecraftian mindfuckery.

So Brandish totally fucked up trying to stop Natsu by restoring the "tumor" to its original size. I'm calling it now that the old lady is going to say how it was actually the thing sealing off his E.N.D. self and now he's going to go berserker on everything.
Which will of course be tamed by the power of friendship and nakama and his waifu Lucy, allowing him to control it. And then it will also just so happen to give him a massive, holy shit WTF powerup the size of Jupiter allowing him to steamroll everyone that isn't Zeref or Acnologia.

One of the most hauntingly disturbing manga ive read, punctuated with odd moments of beauty.
Sort of Pulp Fiction like setup with its non chronological interlocking stories between multiple characters. This is a super depressing read make no mistake about that as it shows he absolute worst of humanity and how unfair life can be in a very dry matter of fact way. But jesus it's definitely not something im gonna forget any time soon.

Consistently super detailed artwork and a fairly simple but well executed premise make up an excellent one-shot.

Hey well the demons are preparing a feast for some being that cannot be named, thats almost there right?
In reality Lovecraft's style of horror and writing is 100% sold on the fear of the unknown or the fear that the universe is so old and vast that thinking humanity is something special is hubris, which is pretty difficult to do. You also never see any of the Old Ones, just descriptions. They are supposed to be aliens that are so monstrous, large and horrifying that a human being cannot comprehend them and can only be described as Gods.
Also, Bloodborne was really good at it. It starts out with gothic horror with the hunt, werewolves, vampires and plagued villagers but there are drip feeds of Lovecraft in there (like being grasped by some unknown force in the graveyard if you let the thing touch you) and the more Madman's Insight you gather, the easier it is to see the Amygdala that were there all along. Of course, after you kill Rom it all goes to shit and the cosmic horrors that were being held off at the edge of the world now come in at full force. Its pretty awesome.
