Those chapters in Belgium (I think it was there?) were pretty neat. At first I thought the guy was hallucinating when he saw the zombie centipede thing, but those silhouettes through the cathedral windows at the end gave me pause. I guess it's ties into the hive-mind thing the manga seems to be hinting at? And it would explain the explosions (what they were firing at I guess?). Now that I look back I think I can even see "it" during the closeup of the explosion. Anyways, whether it was real or not, it was pretty creepy regardless.

Seriously though, the final reveal will be that Azami is a tortured existence and Manabu is better off away from the household that would only hold a grudge against him due to who he is / what he represents yada yada blah blah. Alternatively, we can go super deep and have Sousuke having set the whole damn thing up as some sort of gambit.

An interesting start so far, especially the drawing powers. Kinda just throws you right into the action without much explanation, but it'll probably be sorted out later. Pretty dark/violent though.

Somehow the manga story feels quite stunted compared to the novel, but obviously it doesn't have as much space and time to flesh out like the novel did. Some of the action stuff Obata drew is quite nice, very detailed. I wish I could like his Rita character design though.
