I'm thinking of trying out Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, but I'm not sure where to start. I hear the movie covers the first two volumes. Should I watch the movie and just carry on from where it leaves off, or should I read anyway to avoid missing anything?

Well, we'll see. I'm expecting
going back forward in time (normally, not reverting to his original timeline) and fixing things there as opposed to anything resolving during the High School period. I'm going to assume it ends on a happier note (e.g., the girl lives this time, guy gets the girl, etc.) and not some kind of downer ending

In Volume 2 Akira himself comes in, but he wasn't even in the movie, he was just body parts in jars, and his entrance scene is just replaced with Kei. But in Volume 4 they have Kaori and Tetsuo tearing the SOL out of outer space, both in the movie. My head is trying to chronologically organize all this and it's not making any sense

The movie was made during volume 5. To be more precise, volume 5 consists of episodes 72 to 96, and there was a hiatus between episodes 87 and 88 in order to work on the movie.
