Velvet Kiss volume 1
I already had the American edition, but I couldn't pass up on the Italian one, since the people that did it have done a stand up job on everything they've released so far.
All in all they did a great job (the black and white pages were cut a little less than the American ones and the cover, while with the same subject, looks somewhat better on the whole thanks to the floral motif and no borders), though I didn't like the way they cut the color pages at the start (the American edition cut less here), since a little bit of (useless) details got lost.
Format is smaller, but paper quality is higher and I liked the editing more, so it was a win.
Now I have to admit that while I love Harumi Chihiro, I didn't read it before because it was being translated and wanted to wait for it to be completed, then I didn't read it because it was getting an English official release -so let's wait for everything to be out- and in the end I didn't read it because hey, it's getting an Italian release, so fuck me, I'm not waiting anymore and I finally started.
Anyways, I liked the first volume. Our salary-man Nitta is a bit dumb and his initial thought about liking to look at beautiful girls because it makes him feel better while what they have inside isn't important paint him as being on the shallow side, though he's not a bad person. He's actually too nice (and stupid) for getting roped into that 80 million yen debit and the way Kanoko has him at her fingertip. Kanoko wouldn't be too bad of a girl if she didn't act all that spoiled and didn't hang with those fucked up people, but I guess that's a bit the cliché for the type of background that's been thought out for her.
More than the sex (which looks quite nice) or the way Nitta is getting deeper and deeper into shit at his job, I'm more interested in the whole Kikuchiya business stuff and the deal with Kanoko's stepmother.
