Many game developers were unaware of the PS4's RAM increase

Do we know what the actual PS4 Dev kits had before the 8GB GDDR5 upgrade? Dev kits usually have loads of more ram, so It wouldn't suprise me if it already had +8GB GDDR5.

*laughs* they shouldn have told people about the amount of RAM. if the Devs allready aimed for less amount of RAM, they might have put emphasize on a small footprint in RAM and less sloppy coding. /jk/

it kind of amazes me that Sony last gen was all about power power power at the cost of complex architecture, and as then gen wore on, put their hat on big first party exclusives.

this time its all about being developer friendly, easy access and architecture, big third party support, etc.....but then they're like "fuck it we still want power" lol.

That's running on much less than 4gb of GDDR5? That seems...unbelievable.

just about all of the nextgen games and demos that have been seen running are doing so on 2GB VRAM-based PCs. so yes.

The article also mentioned that a $1000 graphics card has 6GB of GDDR5 RAM. This console is a monster, but I'm worried about cost.

well don't you worry about that. the $1000 graphics card is 2x-3x the PS4/720. The consoles don't compare in any way (fortunately for our wallets).

its Sony, if it weren't for them we will be stuck playing mario 100 right now, as much as many people hate on them for whatever reason they are the biggest investors in gaming, new IPs and bringing new technology to the market, for that reason i applaud them

Can anyone explain what superfast 8 GB Ram actually does? Lessen the loading time on everything? More textures to display?

Sort of yes to both questions. Although I would say the quality of textures is what is going to get the most noticeable bump (aside from loading). I wouldn't say 'more' textures - but much better textures - faster. Its going to be great when we see what ND and others can do with this.

What is funny is that everyone is touting that KZ cityscape gif as evidence of the 8GB prowess - but really when it comes to bumping from 4GB to 8GB - a scene like that would actually change very little (far textures can have low quality). Medium to close range viewpoints will be the scenes that benefit the most. I can't wait to see more dilapidated areas in the next KZ.

I've been burnt by similar demos in the past, so I'll take a stance of I'll believe it when I see it.

That's not to say I don't believe it will look better, but I'm going to keep my expectations in check and not go off the rails like I did after the PS3 tech demo for Killzone.
