The Good: Great storyline with interesting character development; quality dialogue and voice acting; amazing soundtrack; really strong gameplay; great-looking graffiti.
The Bad: A few minor audiovisual glitches.

It's easy to look at a game that has a non-gamemaking fashion designer's name right in the title and assume that it's going to be some sort of flashy, style-over-substance licensed product, but Atari, The Collective, and Ecko have effectively teamed up here and put together a game that has plenty of flashy style, but is a quality game underneath all that flash. If you happen to be at least slightly interested in graffiti, you'll get a lot out of the game. If you aren't, you'll probably still be able to appreciate a lot of what the game does, and you just might learn a little something along the way.

Wow!! This actually turned out to be a good game?? That's really cool. I thougth all the delays were gonna be bad news.

I'll have to rent this quick and see what it's like.

what?!!! Is this a money hat review? Or is it really good? I was expecting nothing good out of this game. Can anyone verify the game is candy goodness?

It's... good? SHOCKER.

I was ready to hate on this because of the product promotion, but I'll keep my mouth shut.

Kudos to Ecko.

But I have zero interest in buying this.

I thought it looked pretty cool in the 1up video. I might have to pass simply because I already have too many games to play :(

How in the world did Edge end up with a 4 and Gamespot an 8.7?!

Edge is all over the place.

Gamespot has wanted to like this ever since Kasavin fell in love with Mark Ecko last year.

The game has been in development for god knows how long. I'm not surprised it turned out good. And if Marc Ecko's name hadn't been attached to the project, it wouldn't have recieved half of the hate it has. Though I'm sure the Jet Grind fanboys would have still have attacked it; god forbid there be an american take on the graffiti theme.

Damn, this is like the Kameo incident.

But this time, I don't think I'll take GS's word.

I think i'll trust Edge's opinion over Jeff Gerstmann. Hell, I'd trust anyone's opinion over Gerstmann :lol

There are more places that have given it good scores too. Here are all the scores up to now

PSM UK - 88%
OPM UK - 8
Gamespot - 8.7
1UP - 7
Edge - 4

Banned in Australia...

"The Classification Review Board has determined, in a majority 3 to 2 decision, that the computer game Marc Ecko’s Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure should be refused classification.

The Review Board met on 6, 8, 13 and 14 February 2006 with the Convenor exercising a casting vote because the members were equally divided in opinion.

A computer game that is refused classification (RC) is immediately banned throughout Australia. It cannot be demonstrated, sold, hired or imported into the country. A computer game is refused classification if it exceeds the guidelines for the MA 15+ classification."

What the hell is in this game that warrants it getting banned? I'll never find out myself now :(

(not that I was going to get it anyway)

It's surprisng this game has been getting consistently good reviews (with a few average/bad ones tossed in the mix). A few more positive ones, and I might actually check it out.

Probably because of the graffiti.
Thats tame, even for our standards.

Still suprises me that Australia of all people could be so conservative.
Its all about public image, we have to convince the rest of the world we aren't racist criminals :(

Why is Australia allways banning games?

If I remember correctly they banned a few other games as well, no?

As far as I'm aware Aussie lacks a "Restricted 18" or equivalent sticker that these games are graded in NZ. Which leads to much advertising in NZ with the tag line "BANNED IN AUSTRALIA" or "UNCENSORED NOT LIKE AUSTRALIA ROFL" tag lines outside game stores.

Also correct me if I'm wrong Australians, but the games lack this rating while movies can get them right? In NZ, both are graded on the same system.

There's a Restricted 18 rating but it's only for movies. The MP who wanted this game banned thought it would lead to "anti-social" activities and kids trying to climb buildings to tag stuff. Utterly retarded considering the other stuff that flies under the radar here.

this game suck suck suck (terrible slowdowns, bad graphics, boring combats), and gamepsot ratings suck even more, they really do.

I refuse to believe this game is on the same levels as SotC and MGS3 which both got the same score from Gamespot. NOO!

This game could be that good, or it could be another Driv3r. Sure the Collective worked on it, but Atari touched it. Will definitely have to rent, at least.

All impressions I've read or heard about this complain about substandard gameplay, saying that the presentation is really the only good thing about it. I don't trust GS's score.

No offense, but I've seen and played this game extensively and have witnessed first-hand the horrors that come along with such endeavors.

A- who the hell is the Collective?

They made the original Buffy on the Xbox. Best 3D beat um up ever.

A- The first XB Buffy game and the XB (and PS2, I believe) Indiana Jones. Solid beat-'em-ups, regardless of their licenses.

From what I played of Getting Up at E3, the fighting is similiar (and based off the same engine) as the other two, so it's quality there.

With emphasis on the regardless - just wait until you see The DaVinci Code.

They're making that too? Don't care about the book or movie (ok well I slightly on that one because of Audrey), but i'll check out the game if they're working on it.

this game just seems like a joke to me based on it's theme. obviously the game developers have put in a lot of work and have crafted a technically good game judging by that review.. but when i think of things like graffiti and things like that it reminds me of my grandma trying to reference things that are cool for kids today.

"breakdancing and graffiti and record scratching are pretty hip? right????"

haha marc ecko... i just can't buy a game with that name on the front cover..

You know... I always figured it would be a shit game, but now that I hear its not... I still don't give a shit. I refuse to give a dime to any game associated to Marc Ecko and his bullshit attitude. If anything, its a good game being marred by a bad association.

Perhaps I'll just hunt down their previous games. Buffy > skateboarding culture

_O_ Plus RJD2 is doing the score.
The thing that I'm curious about is whether or not he created NEW music for the game.

If you take a look at the site and listen to some of the samples, you'll see that they all come from his albums. Granted, some of those songs should fit in there very well and it will hopefully give him some attention, but I really wanted some new music...

Anyone have a clue whether or not they simply re-used previous work?
