Marc Ecko's Getting Up - Gamespot review

The thing that I'm curious about is whether or not he created NEW music for the game.

If you take a look at the site and listen to some of the samples, you'll see that they all come from his albums. Granted, some of those songs should fit in there very well and it will hopefully give him some attention, but I really wanted some new music...

Anyone have a clue whether or not they simply re-used previous work?

Yeah, the tracks are new -- composed specifically for the game.

I'm kinda annoyed by the game. I like the graffitti, hate the beat-em-up. There are way too few check points and the controls are really wonky when it comes to the acrobatic, balancing and climbing shit.

All impressions I've read or heard about this complain about substandard gameplay, saying that the presentation is really the only good thing about it. I don't trust GS's score.

Bingo. The game is shit, guys. It starts out fairly solid, but slowly works itself into a complete mess; the combat is shite when all the people you fight can block and counter your moves (you cant do the same), then beat you to the ground while two other guys literally jump on your head. The first half of the game builds to what could have been a really, really cool (albeit clunky) version of Prince of Persia-meets-tagging. Instead, it's not only painful, but the storyline never really builds to the climax that you're hoping for.

It's very possibly a rental if you can keep it for a week and plow through things, but once you get to about the midway point, you're going to thank your respective deity that you didn't pay full price. I think knowing that Marc Ecko won't get some share of the $50 after you play the game will probably help too.

8.7 is too high.

Tagging and making grafity is geting very boring after just a couple of times. In general, the gameplay gets boring very quickly.

Soundtrack and general style of the game are very good btw.

waaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyy overrated, but the idea behind the game is cool.

- visuals sub par (especially characters)
- framerate problems
- long loading times
- sub par fighting system (push square + triangle and move the left analogstick, to grab an enemy)
- the graffiti system isnt cool as jsr
- there are stealth missiones with unlimited enemies
- controls are not precise enough

Stop calling it "Getting up". Call it by it's gayest name, "Getting up: Contents Under Pressure."

Umm, I'm sorry, but you're not quite Brokeback enough there.

It's full Liberace name is: "Marc Ecko's Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure".

I tried out a friend's PC copy of Getting Up, and I have to hand it to the dev team: the game is damn fun. I was always a huge fan of JGR, and while this doesn't deliver the same unique experience, the similar tagging game mechanic really reminds me of that great game. The PoP jumping and grabbing is really cool, and half the fun of the game is trying to figure out how the hell you're going to get to a place you need to tag.

The battle system is seriously flawed and downright boring, and honestly, the game would've been far better if instead of fighting, you had to stealth your way passed guards or just plain run. The tagging system makes up for it. I wouldn't recommend it as a buy, but I would definitely rent it to see what you guys think.

Again, I really enjoyed it, and I'll definitely rent it out of the store I work at for a few days just to play through it.

I believe The Collective also developed Revenge of the Sith (PS2/Xbox).

I remember the Edge review of ZOE2 well.

I had played the game at the August Playstation event and I had downloaded the gameplay movies from the net. When Edge previewed the game at the Autumn TGS the year before, they said it looked prettier that Panzer Dragon Orta.

Their review was a real shock.

They gave the original 7/10. The reviewer obviously felt that the sequel was actually a step in the wrong direction from the original. Not only was the game short, but they also felt the camera had got worse.

ZOE2 is one of the hardest games to find in the UK. Much harder than Rez or Ico. You should buy the PAL version now for high eBay prices in the future.

When you consider that Edge gave both Killzone and The Getaway 6/10 and The Bouncer 3/10. The score for ZOE2 seems even more wrong. For the PAL release we even got more content, tweaked difficulty levels and some more cut scenes.

Visit UK game boards and you'll see no love for ZOE2. The game is widely misunderstood.

You guys at GAF really helped me get clear in my head that ZOE2 is a balls out action game like DMC and Ninja Gaiden. If you are expecting traditional mecha type experience you will be disappointed.
