This doesnt seem like very much of a problem guys, and I would call this far from cheating, and like a poster above said its a difference of at max 7 seconds which any mistake made would make that extra gain moot

OK, now that's I've actually seen it it doesn't look that bad and also looks intentional and not a glitch imo.

Seriously, it's a technique that almost exclusively benefits isolated players. Let those in first and last get benefits, they've earned it/need it.

If you're unlucky to get in a race with 11 really really really good players, there's no need for rubber banding. One mistake in the front, you get nailed by a dozen items and are languishing in the back for the rest of the race.

maybe I really do suck but I suck so bad everytime I use my mario kart main bowser, I thought heavies didnt stand a chance in this game, maybe its cause im playing against gaf but shit man

Been tearing up with Roy on a bike. I find the key is to make sure you get some decent accel and go out of your way for coins early.
this right here... it will give you an advantage of SECONDS tops in a straight race without weapons.
if you get ahead in first place and use this, it's over.
It is known that if you are in the first four is easier to mantain those positions, the pack is a bloody war, so 5 to 12 won't be able to do this often.
If hopping gives you speed boost, fuck it. If they do it just do cover less distance and better line themselves up for drifts, it's acceptable.

I main Bowser as well. I use the bike to get better handling and accel stats but still have decent speed. I hold my own online, but I have to run as clean a race as possible to have a chance at a top 3 finish. Usually end up in the middle due to item shenanigans.
It doesn't give you a boost, it maintains the boost you'd already get from a drift for slightly longer than you would by staying on the ground.
It's probably something to do with having a different speed/acceleration in air vs ground, so it's patchable but not necessary IMO.
It somehow makes karts, atvs...and certain bikes go even faster. It slows you down on downward slopes and most anti gravity places.

In my experience first place often gets away nicely while 2-8 slaughter each other. Admittedly this impression is about three days old by now, but still...

1st place can pull away for 80% of the entire race, and still end up in 8th or worse due to one mistake or item. A really good player though can nearly lap the field if they have defensive items and play a clean race.
Probably too late when going to Worldwide or Regionals since you'll probably encounter one who'll do it, but in a closed environment one could just say "DON'T USE THAT HOP F*CK WHATEVER!" and it'll be fine. It's still too early, but we'll see how this unfolds.
Maybe Sakurai should handle MK development and EAD do the Smash since Sakurai hates those things being abused lol.

yeah once you slip into 6-12 place than your fucked for most of the race, people say theres rubberbanding(not that im an expert of knowing it) but you can fall so far behind someone thats in 11th place and you could be sincerely trying to catch back up

I will reiterate, I am going to be extremely unhappy if we agree to this. For full disclosure, I've never used this technique and my favorite loadout is unable to even perform it, but I think it's bullshit to ban it when it's completely beatable.
It's like I'm playing Melee and people are bitching about Wavedashing again.

It maintains momentum from a boost. As far as why it's cheating, I can't figure that out myself. I assume it's because people don't like having advanced techniques in their Nintendo games?
Regular snaking wasn't hard to do, but it still completely ruined the online in Mario Kart DS.
I saw a ghost do it, I think if you hop a lot after a boost or mini turbo you maintain that topspeed a little longer

I'd say that first place in this MK is safer than in most other MK's, it's not uncommon for the second place racer to get hit more than you, and once you have a buffer and a defensive item there's not much that can go wrong as long as you keep it clean.
I noticed that item box bug as well, I thought my L button was broken, it's really annoying if I need the item fast.

Hop when you come out of a spark boost and you maintain momentum better than just staying on the ground. It works with everything other than inward turning bikes.
I'm not disagreeing with you there. Like I said, if majority hates those skills being used then have a lobby with a self-imposing ban on using it. Then there will be another room with players allowing that skill, or any other "glitch" to be used in races for fair game. Like a smoking and non-smoking rooms. Or a "For Fun" or "For Glory" lobbies...
