15 min to drive from one side of the world to the other is pretty big. I forget how long it takes to drive from one side of Cyberpunk 2077 to the other.

Going to have to sell the system seller.

Personally the DK game has looked more fun, but over the life of the system, I am playing Mario Kart a ton.

15 minutes? That sounds really short. But Nintendo is cooking something, and it has to do with open world exploration.

This will be Nintendo's GTA 5 Online.

They definitely didn't wow me with the first showing. I'm sure it'll be fine, but open world isn't a huge bonus for me for racing games. It sounds like this isn't really designed around the open world either, so they have a lot to explain. Is there a broader single player mode with story, quests, and emergent races? Is it just the standard 16 races with the option to drive around a lot of empty space? Open world racers like Forza Horizon have tons of things filling the world, whether its collectibles, small timed segments, emergent races in multiple categories, online created races, etc. I still prefer set tracks, but at least that is entirely designed around the open world in a way that attempts to take advantage of it.

The open world seems to exist for this battle royale mode where you race from one side of the map to the other.

I feel like we don't need to see more Mario Kart.

With that said, maybe they'll announce the new preorder go-live date for North America after this Direct??

Would be such a cool addition to the roster. Like imagine throwing baby oil onto the street instead of bananas. His work sure has a lot of nice voice samples / quotes to use for the game.

Edit: 15 min sure don't sound like much, but it could be - 15 minutes dense with one previously unknown feature after another and that thing will be packed. Not expecting it, though.

They better announce a full-on open world single player mode. Putting Forza Horizon to shame with a lot of stuff to do, discover and unlock. I expect nothing else from Nintendo's flagship title.

This seems to be the standard length of game-specific Directs. The Mario Wonder Direct was 15 minutes and the Xenoblade Chronicles 2 one was 16.

Full general Directs are usually only in the 45 minute range, so devoting 15 minutes to a single game is a lot by Nintendo's standards.

Would rather a Donkey Kong or Metroid direct. They've shown enough of Mario Kart.

I think we already know exactly what we need to know about both of these games.
for Mario Kart on the other hand they apparently still haven't shown all the features.

you can't reall show much more of DK or Metroid without just showing spoilers.

There's probably a shitload more to show Mario Kart world especially the open world outside of racing
Yeah, I need more answers on the open world stuff. Sounds like this will be a more engaging game for all players, not just those who do online races.

I assume it will have NPCs that give you challenges.

maybe normal races, time trials across the map, stunt challenges (using the new rail grinding, jump boosts and wallriding), maybe Balloon battles etc.

MK8 already is, World has everything to become bigger. I hope it will

I know it's crazy, but this game gives me Nintendo Land vibes.. don't ask me why.

about the same in me, in my studio we have ps5 as well, but switch is where my team usually play. MK8 and Mario party are more played than else

AKA Justify that $80 price tag show
They don't need to justify anything. MK8 sold over 70m copies for 60 dollars each, has a 92 metacritic, and has consistently charted in the top 10 game sales and often much higher each week for the last almost decade. I refuse to check but it is probably the highest selling Nintendo game of all time if you don't count pack ins and maybe even if you do.

If there was ever a game that didn't need to justify a higher price tag vs other games, it's Mario Kart and Grand Theft Auto.

This is to show people who are Nintendo/Mario Kart fans what the game will be like.

Also, if you buy the bundle the game is only 50 dollars, lol. EVERYBODY who buys Switch 2 should also buy this game so there really is no excuse to play 80 dollars for it. Just buy the bundle and get it for 50 dollars, cheaper than even MK8 is today. Reread that last sentence carefully as it is very important and relevant here. There is no reason at all not to buy the bundle and get this game for 50 dollars. If you tell me "I'll buy the console today and MK later" NO, just save your money and buy the bundle. This is why rich people keep being rich. Be wise with your investment and get the game via bundle for a mere 50 dollars. Your arguments are as weak as well water.
