Mario Party 7 review

Don't worry, all Mario Party games get mediocre reviews. If you actually like those games, I don't think you can take anything from the review except that it'll be exactly like the past Mario Party games in terms of quality.

Well, that's the thing. I've been disappointed since 4, and was hoping they would get it right this time. *sigh*

The fundamentals are the same in every marioparty. They add new boards, new features, and completely new minigames for every one, though....

I wonder why they don't review most sports game in the same fashion?

That said, I don't care much for mario party, but they are good, fun games that seem to be treated in a pretty contradictory way by the press.

This will be mine, just like part 1,2,3,4,5,6 but they're so damn killer playing with other 3 people, can't wait to try out the 8 player mode hope it's well implemented.
The only one i haven't tried is the Mario Party Advance but since it's a single player game it doesn't interest me much.

I like how pretty much every review of every Mario Party game has used this line, acting like it's a bad thing.

You know, I really don't get the mario party hate. the differences are a lot more than what you'll find in any sports game

I'm still confused by this...

The game itself consists primarily of the dozens of minigames... the board game part just exists to present those minigames in a meaningful way. Every Mario Party game is radically different from the rest because they each contain different minigames -- in this case, 86 new ones. How is that "the same tired...game"?

Heck, the Mario Party games are much more original and fresh from game to game than the Madden games are. Granted, the one player mode stinks, but why are you playing a one player mode of something designed for multiple players??? That's like scoring Four Sword Adventures on the single player mode, or nearly any fighting game on the single player game.

Dont put out another Mario Party till there is online play and voice chat. Period

Well, considering the next Mario Party would be sold at about the same time the Revolution would be being sold, that's quite possible.

Many of the minigames consist of pressing "A" repeatedly.

Games like Madden and Tony Hawk may do nothing new, but those games attempted something beyond an NES-level of game design in the beginning. That's the difference.

You know whats funny we only just got Mario Party 6 here. Oh well October Next year i'll be playing this.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I solve the problem with Mario Party games being the same by skipping a few. The last one I purchased was Mario Party 4 and, since I have avoided 5 and 6, I'm sure 7 will feel a bit fresher than it would if I'd picked up 5 and 6. But that's just how I handle it.

At least more changes in the Mario Party games than the arguments about Mario Party. Every freakin' year... both the milking angle and the multi vs. single angle.

I'm hoping for the classic gaping asshole.

A fun party game on the Revolution will be redundant, no?

Anyway, the real problem with Mario Party is that the games make Nintendo look worse during off years.

With just Fire Emblem, DK JB, and the rest being published mediocrity, having 4 of these on one shelf sticks out like a sore thumb. And still, it'll outsell Pikmin 2. (idiots)

I agree. And it's funny because you can apply the same arguments to practically 99% of sequels out there. However, the problem with the Mario Party games is that ever since they came on the GC, they've become really mediocre. Especially Mario Party 5. Its minigames sucked, and the visual style was dumbed down to hell. There's the surreal, wacky look that Mario games have, like Mario 64, and then there's the cutesy, saccharine, made for kids ONLY for kids look that the Mario Party games have. Nintendo needs to address these problems as soon as possible.

Also the whole having mini-games that you win based only on luck, and also the whole having to sit through tedious and awful, unfunny animations each and every turn. I don't fucking care if Bowser wants to shoot a cannonball at me, asshole game. And generally the terribly unbalanced nature of almost every Mario Party game since the first. Also, the whole having items which break the game instantly thing.

hoestly, the king of party games is Fusion Frenzy, has been for a while... the mario party games really end up being too random because of too many random minigames and events and star awards that aren't really based on any skill, not even a simple skill like mashing a button...

I thought you could turn off all the "luck" based mini-games since MP5?

Which one is your favorite? I've only played 1, 4 and 5 and 1 is definetly my favourite(best mini games)

Can you? I honestly don't know. I remember you could turn off certain stars (like stars for using the most items), but I don't remember turning off luck based mini-games

Now that he mentioned it, I seem to recall some sort of option for turning off certain catagories of minigames. I never tried it, but I seem to remember it being there...

Mario Party 2 is still the best in the series.

we need yearly sports games because sports games must reflect ongoing, changing realities. we need seven mario parties because we're stupid and easily amused. two very different situations there.

The ongoing reality is that is stupid to review a game called Mario PARTY being in a dark room all alone.

You are GAF's most vocal homonym -- or it that synonym in this case?

Mario Party 6 was such a stepdown from 5 i dont think i will buy this if they havent changed anything. The voice games were utter rubbish and all the 'innovations' killed the game.

Mario Party: My #1 Most Rented Game.

... the best part of that review is when he mentions using it as a drinking game.
BRILLIANT, it is.

Can't ever go wrong with mario party that way.

Mario Party 5 was the best so far, in my opinion (I still can't get over the fact that both the writing was pretty good and final boss was a better platformer Bowser boss than the one in Sunshine), but yeah, while 6 was a step down (and much less fun in Single Player, yes, I play it), it still had some decent bits, and a couple of nice platformer-style games, which I loved. (Running from the boulder, jumping on the Bullet Bills, the music notes, and of course, the four area platforming sequence one.) I think both a blessing and a curse for it, though, was that there was only one "normal" board. EVERY other board tried some game-affecting gimmick, and while some were interesting (like Bowser vs. DK), every now and then you wanted just a differently-themed normal board, even if it would've been the type of thing done before.

What I don't get, though, is that they're including another Mic with this one, right? That makes two mics if you're an avid Mario Partier, and GCN games are only set up to use one anyway. And Odama's coming with ANOTHER one, right? What are you supposed to do with all the mics if you actually want to buy these games for yourself? Donate them to friends who don't have the games that use them? Not like EB or any place will give you anything worth bringing them in.

Yeah, there are certain categories of mini-games you can toggle on and off, I believe. MP5 had:

- All
- Easy
- Action
- Skill
- Goofy

We usually left them all on since it gave those unfamiliar with the game (or just plain unfamiliar with videogames, in general) a better chance.

They really need a Revolution version which has ALL the minigames, boards and options from the previous games, and downloadable addons every now and then.

The games rock. Maybe they get bad reviews because the reviewers have to sit there and methodically try all the options; I don't even touch the singleplayer myself. The only way to play it is with three fun people and some alcohol.

I feel just the opposite. 5 was the worst one I've played. I haven't beaten single player mode, but I'm interested in seeing the boss battle.

Heh i always wondered why they never had this compilation-version, they really should have that as a Revolution launch title, a serious and massive Mario Party project with all the mini-games from 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 +100 or so new mini-games + fun revolution controller games, like mini fishing games etc :p
